TheInternationalFellowshipofScoutingRotarians(IFSR)isoneofmorethan50Ro taryfellowshipgroupsestablishedtobringtogetherrotarianswithsimilarinterests fromaroundtheworld.itismadeupofrotarians,rotarianspouses,interactand Rotaractmemberswhoareorwere,also,membersand/orsupportersoftheScout and/orgirlguidemovements.formoreinformationaboutthisfellowship,viewthe IFSRwebsiteandbecomeamember. Itwasfeltthatbecauseofthesedualinterestsandinvolvement,thereshouldbemanyopportunitiesforpastand presentscouterstofurtherthescouting/rotaryidealsandrelationshipsatlocal,regional,national,andinterna tionallevels. ThuswasborntheInternationalFellowshipofScoutingRotarians(IFSR).Numberingover1,000membersworld wideatthepresenttime,ifsrpromotestherotarymottoof ServiceAboveSelf.AfterapprovalfromRotary International,IFSRjoinedtheover90differentFellowshipsandActionGroupssanctionedbyRotaryInternational inwhichactiverotariansmaysharetheirinterestsandhobbies. LikeoriginalScouting,thefirstsuchgroupwaslocatedintheBritishIsles(RIBI)andisnowthroughouttheRotary andscoutingworlds.canada,easternrussia,unitedstates,mexicoandthecaribbeanwereformedintothein teramericanregion.theifsrisstructuredalongthelinesoftheworldorganizationofscoutmovement,which hassixdistinctregionsofareasforadministrativepurposes Africa,AsiaPacific,Arabian,European,Urasian,and Interamerican. TheIFSSRisagroupofRotariansdedicatedtopromotetheScoutingMovementinternationally.ThisFellowship operatesinaccordancewithrotaryinternationalpolicy,butisnotanagencyof,orcontrolledbyrotaryinterna tional.

Hesayshe'sgettingtoomuchcreditinthereport.HeisratherahumbleScouter.Hetoldmeacoupleofweeksago thattheymayneedtofurlough3of5employeeswithoutanyfurtherfunds.ithinkthismaybeagoodprogramfor ustoadoptwiththefellowship. Iaskedwhatheneeded hisresponse ifrotary(maybeanindividualclub)wouldallowthemtousetheir501c3as aconduitfordonations.thoughhewouldloveanydonationswecouldgive whathereallyneedsisanonprofit avenuetosolicitandacceptdonations.isthereawaywecanhelp? Asyoumayrecall,IamnotataxattorneyandwouldwanttorunthisbyonebutmybeliefisthatifaClub sfoun dationincludedinitsmissionthedesiretoassistdevelopingscoutinginaparticularareaitcouldreceivethosedo nationsandhandletransferofthemoniesforafghanscouting(solongastheuseofthefundswasmonitoredap propriatelytomakesurethefundswerebeingusedasplanned).iamassumingthescoutingafghanheisassisting ispartof(orbeingdevelopedinsomecoordinationwith)wosm sarabregion..headquartersisincairo, Egypt.AndamalsowonderingifhehasinvestigatedtheMessengersofPeaceprogramthroughtheWorldScout Foundation/BadenPowellFellowship thatorganization(cosponsoredbysaudiarabiaandsweden)seekstoex panddirectsupporttoscoutinggrowth...iknowtheyareopentodevelopmentofscoutingorganizations they arecurrentlyhelpingregeneratescoutinginnicaragua. MoniescouldbefunneledtoBSA susfoundationforinternationalscouting(usfis)throughbsaheadquartersin Irving,Texasbuttheywillnotaccepttargetedfundstoaspecificcountry..thoughtheytrytofunnelasmuchas possibleofsuchfundstothatcountryifappropriateapplicationshavebeenreceivedfromthatcountryforsuch funds.muchlikeonecannotgivemoneytoaspecificcollegewithdirectionthatthemoniesbeusedtoprovidea scholarshiptoaparticularstudent. LetmetrytolookintothatabitmorebutIwouldthink(offthetopofmyhead,thoughImaybewrong)thatifa RChadafocusonhelpingScoutingoneitheraglobalorcountryfocusedbasisandiftherecipientorganization therecanshowtheproperstewardshipanduseofthefundsthattherccoulduseits501c3foundationtomake thishappen. TheBPFellowshipreceptionsareperiodicallyheldindifferentpartsoftheworldtobothinformmembersabout Scoutingandtowelcomenewmembers.TherewillbeareceptionattheBPFellowshipeventtobeheldincon junctionwiththe2013nationalscoutjamboreethisjuly.therehasnotbeenabpfellowshipeventintheunited Statessince2009;thiswouldbeanexcellenttimetobecomeamemberandberecognizedinWestVirginiathis summer! ThekingofSaudiArabiahasbeenamajorsupporteroftheWorldScoutMove ment.lastyearheinitiatedthemessengersofpeaceprogramtoencourage everyoneworldwidetodoserviceprojectsandtoletothersknowwhatthose projectsare,soothersmightdothesame.hemadeasignificantfinancialcontributiontoencouragescouts aroundtheworldtoparticipate. NationalDayinSaudiArabia,similartoourFourthofJuly,wasthe82ndcelebrationoftheunificationoftheKing domofsaudiarabia.thescoutsgatheredinaljoufprovinceinnorthwesternsaudiarabia,includingrepresenta tivesfromtheworldscoutbureauandfromscoutassociationsincountriessuchashaiti,kuwait,indonesia, France,IrelandandtheNetherlands.ThehistoryofAlJoufdatesbackmorethan4,000yearsandhasalmostall historicalperiodsandhumancivilizationsthathavelefttheirmarkthere.

6 Page 6 ThetripgaveAnthonyauniqueandrareopportunitynotonlytowitnessaculturedramaticallydifferentfromour own,butalsotoseescoutingfromadifferentperspective.butwhatbecameveryclearisthatscoutsaroundthe worldarelinkedbyasharedsetofvaluesthattranscendcultureandborders.languagesmaydifferandlocalcus tomsmayappearstrangeandunfamiliarbutthescoutsign,themottoof BePrepared andthedesiretomake theworldabettermorepeacefulplaceconnectscoutsacrosstheglobe.thescoutstheymetwerewarm,gra cious,enthusiastic,smart,interestingandengaging.anthonywasoftenapproachedbyscoutswantingtomeet andhaveapicturetakenwithhim. SECONDINTERAMERICANSCOUTMOOTTRAMANDAÍ,BRAZIL2014 Inlessthantwoyears,theRoversoftheInteramericanRegionwillmeetinBrazilforthemostimportantRover eventoftheregion:theinteramericanscoutmoot! TheInteramericanScoutMootmirrorstheScoutworld.AllthediversityandknowledgefromdifferentScoutcul turesaroundtheworldisgatheredinoneplace.theeventisinspiringandcontributestothedevelopmentofthe Scoutingmovement. Itsmainobjectiveistopromotecultural,ecological,recreational,spiritual,touristicand,especially,community activitiesthataimtofacilitatetheexchangeofexperiences,integration,discussion,intellectualgrowthanddevel opmentofyoungpeople,strengtheningtheirparticipationinthecommunitieswheretheylive. AnenormousvarietyofstimulatingandexcitingactivitiesarebeingdesignedfortheparticipantsoftheSecond InteramericanScoutMootinBrazil. Thiseventwillofferanexcellentopportunityforallparticipantstoenjoythemselveswhilehavingfunandlearning moreaboutscoutingintheirgroups,countryandothercountriesthroughouttheworld. ThisisagreatopportunitytoshowhowScoutingcan makeadifference atlocal,nationalandworldlevels.itwill beagreatopportunityforallparticipantstochangetheworldforthebetter tobescouts! FourdaysinthePaths Thefirstfourdaysofactivitieswillbedevelopedinthepaths.Onthefirstday,arrivinginPortoAlegre,partici pantswillbesentdirectlytodifferentregions. Twoofthesedayswillbedevotedtocommunityactivities.AtthistimeRoverswillhaveanimportantmission:to know,shareandhelprealizethedreamsofthelocalcommunitiesinwhichroverswillbeinserted. Thiswillbeaccomplishedwiththeparticipationofthepeoplewholiveincommunitiesthatareservedbythe Moot,workingtogetherwiththemtopromoteagreatactionthatgeneratesatransformationinthelivesofeve ryone.pathparticipantswillalsohavetheopportunitytolivemomentsofleisure,relaxationandtourism. FivedaysintheBaseCamp Fromthefourthdayallparticipantswillleavethepathsandwillmeetatthebasecampforasecondroundofthe event,wheretheycanexchangeexperienceswithyoungpeoplewhowereintheirdifferentpaths. NormanwasborninFredericton,NBandspenthisearlyyearsinCharlottetown,PE&Kitchener,ON.Oncemarried andbeginningafamily,hespenttimeinmontreal,qc,chatham,onandthenwesttocalgary,abin1973. Normanwaslargerthanlife,havingmanycareersstartingattheageoftenuntilhispassing;retirementwasnotin hisvocabulary.hismanycareersincludednewsman,broadcaster,salesdirector,managementconsultantand fundraisingstrategist. Inadditiontohisworkinglife,NormanwasalifelongmemberoftheScoutingmovementanddedicatedvolunteer withover50yearsofservice,wholedtheteamthatputtogetherthecanadian(1981)andtheworld(1983)jam boreesinkananaskiscountryformorethan16,000youthfromaroundtheworld.hewasaboardmemberand pastpresidentofheritagepark,alongtimerotarian,andparticipatedasanelderandchoirmemberformany yearsatst.andrew spresbyterianchurch. NormanreceivedmanyaccoladesandawardsovertheyearsbuttheoneshetreasuredmostweretheSilverWolf fromscoutscanada,thepaulharrisfellowandcliffdochtermanawardsfromrotary,andthequeen sgoldenju bileemedal. Normanvaluedhisleisuretimeandnothinggavehimmorepleasurethantoenjoythecompanyofhisfriendsin thesouthbankshortlinemodelrailwayclubeverymondaynight.heespeciallyenjoyedweekendsawayinhis motorhomewithhiswife,family,andfriends.
