2 Saturday 17 November 2018 Hilton Hotel Sydney Invitation Dear Colleagues, We are delighted to invite you to the 2018 Sydney Colorectal Surgical Meeting to update you on continuing controversies, recent advances and future directions in colorectal surgery. You will have the opportunity of meeting some outstanding personalities including two international experts, Dion Morton and Brij Agarwal. Dion Morton is the Barling Chair of Surgery at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, and Chair of the Research Committee of the European Society of Coloproctology. Dion has a major interest in clinical research and has been PI on many trials of which the recently concluded Foxtrot trial, looking at neoadjuvant treatment of locally advanced colon cancer is a prime example. Dion has also made major contributions to develop the quality and format of surgical trials. We are also fortunate to have Brij Agarwal who joins us from New Delhi, India, where he is Professor of General and Laparoscopic surgery. Brij has been a pioneer of laparoscopic surgery in India but has also been instrumental in developing a holistic approach to healing in surgery. Brij has a keen interest in reducing the use of energy devices in routine laparoscopic surgery. Brij also serves as the President of the New Delhi Association of Surgeons. The program offers something for everyone, be they surgeons, stomal therapists and trainees alike. We hope you will enjoy both the program and the post meeting reception and that we see as many of you as possible in Sydney. 4 Invited Speakers Professor Dion Morton 2018 Edward Wilson Lecture Professor Morton is Barling Professor of Surgery and Head of the Academic Department of Surgery at the University of Birmingham. He received his degree in Medicine from Bristol University in He was given an honorary consultant appointment at the University Hospital Birmingham in 1996, and was appointed Professor of Surgery in In 2015, he was appointed Barling Professor of Surgery. He is Director of the Birmingham Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre, Director of Clinical Research at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Deputy Head at the Institute of Cancer and Genomic Sciences at University of Birmingham. He is Research Committee Chair for the European Society of Coloproctology and past President of the Society for Academic and Research Surgery. His primary research interests are clinical and translational research for colorectal cancer and the development of clinical trials to improve surgical care. Professor Brij Agarwal Brij Agarwal, MS, Dip. Yoga, FACS, Vice Chairman & Professor, Department of Laparoscopic & General Surgery, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital & GRIPMER, India is a pioneer of laparoscopic and robotic surgery in India. He has published over 75 articles, book chapters and invited editorials including international firsts like abdominal wall reconstruction in laparoscopic ventral hernia repair, endoscopic breast surgery, cholecystectomy without energized dissection, extraperitoneal varicocelectomy and the 1st Robotic Whipple s with Natural Orifice Specimen Extraction. He pioneered Stapled Trans Anal Rectal Prolapse, laparoscopic colorectal surgeries and established Pelvic Floor Surgery in India. Honored with the National Award for Best Innovator Surgeon, he was selected as an Ambassador for India at SAGES 2018 and by Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons to speak as one of The Three Best of the World at MIS Week He is President of the Association of Surgeons of India, Delhi & Associate Editor of Indian Journal of Surgery. He has delivered over 400 talks including many prestigious orations and serves on the Editorial Boards of many journals.
