2 What s New, What Matters, What s Next: UCSF Transplant 2010 Sir Francis Drake Hotel San Francisco, California September 22-24, 2010 UCSF transplant surgeons and physicians are acknowledged leaders in the field of solid organ transplantation. This 2 1 /2 day conference provides a unique opportunity to hear these experts present on the latest trends in transplantation. Plenary will address topics relevant to transplantation in general, including new immunosuppressive medications, programs to increase access to transplant, waitlist management strategies, islet cell transplantation, and HIV and organ transplant. Clinical tracks for heart, lung, liver, kidney, and pancreas will allow practitioners to focus on the current issues and patient management strategies within their area of specialization. TARGET AUDIENCE Designed for a broad cross-section of health care professionals, this conference encompasses heart, lung, liver, kidney, and pancreas transplant, and provides information relevant to multiple practice specialties. Physicians, transplant coordinators and administrators, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and pharmacists, as well as social workers and case managers interested in expanding their knowledge of transplantation, are encouraged to attend. OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this course, an attendee will be able to: Apply into practice the advances in therapeutic management of transplant donors and recipients; Improve patient communication regarding allocation policies and their impact on access to transplants; Improve competence in managing the immunological challenges involved in organ transplantation; Improve competence in the prevention and management of infectious disease complications following organ transplantation; Apply new strategies to manage the long- term complications associated with immunosuppressive therapy; Improve current strategies to increase access to transplantation; and Foster greater levels of compliance with the regulatory issues impacting solid organ transplant. ACCREDITATION The University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine (UCSF) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. UCSF designates this educational activity for a maximum of AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s) TM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This CME activity meets the requirements under California Assembly Bill 1195, continuing education and cultural and linguistic competency. Nurses For the purpose of recertification, the American Nurses Credentialing Center accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credit TM issued by organizations accredited by the ACCME. Physician Assistants AAPA accepts category 1 credit from AOACCME, Prescribed credit from AAFP, and AMA PRA Category 1 Credit from organizations accredited by the ACCME.
