I d like to invite everyone into the PeaceHealth donor family. No contribution is too small and every gift matters. Help support our communities health and wellness today and into the future. Join us and become our partner in providing clinical excellence and compassionate, high-quality care to all who turn to us during their time of need. On behalf of PeaceHealth s patients, caregivers and providers, I extend my heartfelt thanks and gratitude for your support. It s an honor and a privilege to serve you and your families. Warmest regards, For it is in giving that we St. Francis of Assisi receive. Liz Dunne President and Chief Executive Officer The Spirit of Giving

PeaceHealth Ketchikan Donor Dollars $212,806 The Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace first began their work in Ketchikan, Alaska, almost 100 years ago. Today, their legacy is continued through PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center, a critical access hospital and large medical group serving the diverse and remote island communities of southeast Alaska. PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center strives to bring the best in safe, highquality care to a network of isolated communities where cost and access to care are uniquely challenging. With your support, we are able to make meaningful investments in technology, programs and specialty care services that have a direct impact on the lives of our Alaskan patients and families. Thank you for your partnership in furthering our healing Mission. 62% Community Health 33% Equipment 5% Diabetes Education The Secret Ingredient Is Kindness Heart and Sole Kelly Jenks is a lot more than a donor. As the volunteer leader for the annual Sole-Stice shoe auction, she oversees more than 60 volunteers in coordinating Ketchikan s largest summertime fun and fashion event helping to raise nearly $500,000 over the last ten years. More than just a night on the town, Sole-Stice raises tens of thousands of dollars each year and serves as a wonderful bridge between the medical center foundation and the Ketchikan community. In the past, this event has helped the medical center purchase infant bed warmers, breast biopsy equipment and provide short-term housing support for patients and their families. This year s proceeds are supporting hospice and palliative care and touch yet another area of care for our patients. Ketchikan is a very tightknit community; everybody knows each other. Getting to see tangible outcomes like the infusion chemotherapy suite we worked so hard for makes me feel extremely proud, because I know it s going to help local patients in very real ways, says Kelly. If you re at PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center, make a beeline to the Four Seasons Café. You ll find yourself in good company with locals who have discovered this best-kept secret. While the food is a major draw, it s also the hospitality of the food service team especially Oscar Lorenzo, whose warmth and kindness have been standard fare for more than 20 years at PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center. The best part about raising money for PeaceHealth is being able to see the results of our efforts each year. Kelly Jenks, Donor and Volunteer 4 PeaceHealth Foundations The Spirit of Giving

Donor Dollars $3,416,231 by Whatcom Hospice Foundation and PeaceHealth St. Joseph Foundation PeaceHealth St. Joseph PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center provides comprehensive specialty care to the greater Whatcom County community in northwest Washington. This year, the generosity of our donors enabled us to provide specialized professional development for caregivers, acquire new equipment in our cardiovascular, cancer and childbirth centers, as well as open the Grabow Therapy and Wellness Center, a 12,500 square-foot center providing state-of-the-art rehabilitation care. Thank you for supporting our Mission to improve the health and well-being of our Washington communities. All along the way people have helped me, and now it s my turn to help. Amy Wolsdorf, Grateful Patient and Donor 70% Whatcom Hospice Services 17% Emergency Services, Cardiovascular Care, and Advanced Medical Technology 5% Cancer Services 4% The Grabow Therapy and Wellness Center 4% Community Wellness and Clinical Education Going Above and Beyond Paying It Forward Amy Wolsdorf has been a major donor to the PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center Foundation, making more than 40 gifts over the last 20 years. She has supported the growth of the medical center by contributing to every fundraising campaign to date. Amy, who was born into poverty in Hong Kong and suffered from malnutrition and other health-related issues throughout her life, has an intimate understanding of the importance of compassionate, high-quality care. The first patient in the original PeaceHealth St. Joseph Cancer Center to go through clinical trials, Amy now supports the critical work of providers and caregivers who care for patients like her. PeaceHealth does a great job and I depend on them, Amy says. Her first gift was to name the Cancer Center Clinical Trials Room and she s been giving ever since. I came with nothing and I want to leave with nothing, says Amy. After worrying whether they would have enough money for gas to make a visit to PeaceHealth Medical Group s pediatric clinic in Bellingham, a distraught mom and her daughter discovered that their state-managed insurance plan wouldn t cover the daughter s appointment. As the mom burst into tears, PeaceHealth caregivers swiftly stepped into action. Working together, the caregivers arranged for the clinic to see the young girl that day, regardless of insurance. The caregivers also treated the pair to breakfast, arranged for additional family counseling and support for further insurance plan assistance. All in a day s work for this superstar team. 6 PeaceHealth Foundations The Spirit of Giving

PeaceHealth St. John Donor Dollars $926,586 PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center provides comprehensive specialty care for Cowlitz County and the surrounding region. As the community s largest employer, with more than 1,600 caregivers and 250 active medical staff members, it offers dozens of medical specialty services and programs including emergency, trauma, cardiac, behavioral health, bone and joint, cancer, birthing and women s services. This year, the generous spirit of our donors enabled us to provide specialized professional development for caregivers, the remodeling of the Pediatric Clinic s waiting area and exam rooms as well as the remodeling of the Emergency Department children s waiting area. These important projects would not be possible without your support. 19% Area of Greatest Need 27% Lower Columbia Regional Cancer Center 22% Youth Mentorship Program 3% Outpatient Physical Rehabilitation 29% Other Department Funds and Projects A Passion for the Greater Good Joe Hawes knows a thing or two about the value and cost of high-quality healthcare. He s been in debt collection for nearly 30 years, logging his share of conversations with those who can t afford health insurance. He has a passion for helping the underserved through preventive health and behavioral support, and as the major sponsor of the annual St. John Foundation Golf Tournament for 16 years. He serves as one of PeaceHealth St. John s longest standing donors and has helped raise more than a million dollars through his years of service. 7 Donor Dollars $4,779,031 PeaceHealth Southwest PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center serves the patients and communities of southwest Washington by providing comprehensive specialty care for more than 250,000 patients annually. This year, our donors helped complete the $10.5 million campaign for Neuroscience Excellence. Your generous giving has supported our caregivers professional development and the expansion and renovation of the Benjamin H. McGough, MD Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit. This year, you also provided charity care for patients in need and support for our hospice and bereavement programs. Because you care, patients and families of Clark County will continue to receive the best in compassionate, high-quality healthcare. One of the most satisfying things you can do is to be of help. Sylvia C. Karabay, to Vancouver in 2004 to be closer to their two children. In 2006, they became acquainted with PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center through Vecihi s short hospital stay followed by home hospice care. The tremendous dedication of the doctors and nurses along with their care and concern were extraordinary, says Sylvia. Sylvia made a bequest in honor of her husband of 57 years and his deep commitment to philanthropy. The Daily Activities Room in the Benjamin H. McGough, MD Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit will be named after Vecihi when it opens in Winter A nurse station in the Thomas and Sandra Young Neurosciences Center in the Firstenburg Tower is named in memory of their late son, Adnan Sami Karabay, an accomplished artist who passed away from a brain tumor. Going the Extra Mile Social worker Sherilyn Brown and nurse Caron Welch went above and beyond when a hospice patient was sedated at home and taken off life support. The patient s family was truly amazed at the level of care and compassion they provided a harpist added a calming element and the hospice chaplain offered prayers. Generous with her time and resources, Sylvia has been a devoted supporter of the medical center ever since Vecihi passed away. One of the most satisfying things you can do is to be of help she says, and her actions reflect this sentiment. Sylvia has been volunteering since 2006 at the Specialty Clinic of PeaceHealth and has served on the Medical Executive Committee as a Patient Representative since Sylvia s giving spirit honors her beautiful family and has made a profound difference in the lives of southwest Washington patients and families. 10 PeaceHealth Foundations The Spirit of Giving

Donor Dollars $3,658,865 PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center Foundation PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center, University District provides community-based health services, including 24-hour emergency medical care, rehabilitation, and inpatient medical and behavioral health treatment. In 2008, PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend opened its doors in Springfield. This award-winning medical center in Oregon s picturesque Willamette Valley offers the full spectrum of medical and surgical care. This year, your generous contributions provided medications for behavioral health patients in need, scholarships for our nurses and a kid-friendly environment in Sacred Heart s diagnostic imaging area. Your support makes a profound difference to the lives of the patients and families in our Oregon community. It feels really good to give back. Pam Russell, PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center Guild President 42% Children s Services Giving from the Heart 36% Heartfelt Guest House at RiverBend 6% Hospice and Palliative Care 6% Behavioral Health Services 4% Area of Greatest Need 3% Caregiver Education 3% Other Honoring Life An Oregon couple was devastated after their child was struck by a car, sustaining fatal injuries. Nurse Emily Winkler, along with other caregivers, continued to care for the family placing blankets so the parents could feel warmth as they hugged their child goodbye. Emily also gathered two teddy bears, one for the parents to take home and one to rest with the child a simple gesture to comfort parents overwhelmed by grief. From their first gift in 1950 of a Singer sewing machine, the PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center Guild has been working hand in hand with the medical center, contributing time and resources to fund important programs and services. A volunteer-based organization that runs the medical center s gift shops Heartfelt Gifts at the University District and RiverBend campuses, the Guild provides philanthropic support to the medical center, and emotional support to anyone who walks through the gift shop doors. Each year, the Guild donates a portion of its proceeds to support the medical center and this year they pledged one million dollars to the Sacred Heart guest house campaign. The new Heartfelt Guest House will provide a new home away from home for an estimated 1,500 patients and families a year receiving care at the Riverbend campus. One wing of the new house will be dedicated solely to families of pediatric patients and babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The other wing will be dedicated to patients who require a higher level of care not available near their home. Like our Guild, PeaceHealth is heartfelt. The people at PeaceHealth share the same values, from the custodial staff to the nurses to the physicians. Our shared focus is on the community and what s best for patients, says Pam Russell, Guild President. 12 PeaceHealth Foundations The Spirit of Giving

Donor Dollars $239,085 PeaceHealth Cottage Grove Community Medical Center Foundation PeaceHealth Cottage Grove Community Medical Center provides critical and affordable healthcare access to the rural Oregon communities of Cottage Grove, Creswell, Dexter and North Douglas County. This year, your incredible gifts supported a remodel of the Dexter Clinic as well as the recent purchase of a 3D Mammography machine, among other important improvements that benefit the health of our community. Your commitment to making a difference furthers our ability to provide compassionate care to our Oregon patients and families, today and into the future. 53% Cancer 23% Emergency Services 16% Area of Greatest Need 4% Heartfelt Guest House at RiverBend 4% Other Saving Lives Through Early Detection About one in eight U.S. women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime, and because breast cancer can have no symptoms, regular breast cancer screening is vitally important. It was imperative that PeaceHealth Cottage Grove Community Medical Center replace an older machine with a new 3D mammography machine. The new machine detects abnormalities much earlier than traditional testing and ensures our residents have access to the greatest preventive care for their screenings. The Power of Compassionate Care Go Fish turned out to be a bit went out of their way to play card of a lifesaver for a young patient games with the young person. at PeaceHealth Cottage Grove The simple activity was a welcome Community Medical Center. While distraction and the personal housing an adolescent crisis patient interaction gave the patient for several days, the ED nursing reassurance and comfort during staff and hospital s security guard a difficult time. The PeaceHealth Cottage Grove Community Foundation embarked on the largest fundraising effort since the construction of the medical center facility and successfully raised the money needed for this piece of critical equipment. Thanks to strong community support and the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust, the campaign was a success and our neighbors, friends and family have access to the highest level of breast cancer detection available. 14 PeaceHealth Foundations The Spirit of Giving

Donor Dollars $252,828 PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Medical Center Foundation PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Medical Center, located on the Oregon Coast in the town of Florence, is a full-service critical access hospital. For almost 30 years, PeaceHealth Peace Harbor has provided patient care to the community, offering technology that exceeds typical rural facilities. This year, the generosity of our donors enabled us to provide specialized professional development for caregivers and funding for a new medical social worker position on the palliative care team. Because of your generous gifts, our Oregon patients are able to receive exceptional and compassionate care close to home while they heal. By providing acupuncture services, we are helping reduce the risk of addiction to pain medication. Richard Yecny, PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Medical Center Chief Administrative Officer 28% Emergency Services 23% Palliative Care 21% Hospice 14% Community Health 13% Area of Greatest Need 1% Other Putting the Care in Caregiver Points of Grace Florence resident, Linda Lauck, is an avid community volunteer and long-time donor to PeaceHealth Peace Harbor. Her most recent gift supports Points of Grace, a community collaboration between PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Medical Center and The Wellspring Clinic acupuncture clinic. Linda s support helps provide patient access to acupuncture, enabling PeaceHealth to work toward improved community health, while also addressing a serious Oregon health threat opioid addiction. According to the Oregon Health Authority, three Oregonians die every week from prescription opioid abuse. The progressive program provides a nonopioid option for pain treatment using the ancient Chinese medical tradition of acupuncture. As a nontraditional treatment, acupuncture can complement a patient s care plan, offering pain relief without the use of pharmaceuticals which can become addictive. Linda s generosity helps support this innovative collaboration, to the benefit of the greater Florence community. Dianna Pimlott, Director of Pharmacy Services at PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Medical Center, won t let much get in the way of lending a hand, or hug, to patients. When a patient down on his luck needed transport to a Eugene treatment facility, Dianna reached for her own purse to cover the bus fees. The patient gratefully took the money and, with tears in his eyes, said, I d hug you, but I m dirty. Much to his surprise, she wrapped her arms around him and wished him blessings on his way. 16 PeaceHealth Foundations The Spirit of Giving

Creating a Legacy Engineering, race walking, genealogy Dick Carroll was a man of many passions who approached everything with a can do attitude. His 89 years of life included service during World War II in the Army Corps of Engineers, helping to develop the early transportation infrastructure in the state of Washington, and assisting victims of natural disasters around the world. Two of Dick s passions rose above all the others, however. The first was his love for his family including his wife, Betty, and his children. The second was his love for PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. For more than 18 years, Dick served as a Board member. Throughout his service to PeaceHealth Southwest, Dick made consistent, modest gifts to the Foundation. Through his will, however, Dick made a major bequest designating that the remainder of his estate be given to the Foundation to create the Carroll Family Endowed Fund in memory of Betty J. Carroll. His bequest was unrestricted, and provides flexibility in utilizing the interest income for the benefit of our patients and programs. The Emergency Department waiting room at PeaceHealth Southwest was named in Dick and Betty s memory and is just one of the many ways his gift is helping transform care for our patients. Our dad always led by example and we are proud to have this fund in our family name to benefit so many at PeaceHealth Southwest, says his daughter, Jo Carroll Meints. Planned Giving A bequest in your will or estate plan is one of the easiest ways to make a significant gift in support of great local healthcare. If you already have a will, a simple amendment can be made to name your favorite medical center department or program as a beneficiary. Designating a percentage of the remainder of your estate ensures that your charitable legacy continues after you re gone. Learn more at peacehealth.planmygift.org Dick Carroll Working Together for a Healthy Future We care about the future health of our communities and we know you do too. Together, we can make a difference. We are grateful for the PeaceHealth donor family who helps support our incredible team of providers and caregivers who live out our Mission by providing loving, compassionate care every time, every touch through countless everyday moments of grace. We invite you to become a part of this family and a partner in making a brighter, healthier future for our families, friends and neighbors. Please consider working with us and create a healthy legacy that benefits your community. Together, we will carry on our Mission of healing for the future.
