13 Cancer Care Facilitator - Secondment Band 7 with potential for 10% unsocial enhancement - INDICATIVE Based at Exeter, Bournemouth and Bristol South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) provides emergency and urgent care to the largest area of any ambulance trust in England. There are 1.8 million people in the UK with a cancer diagnosis and 3 million people in the UK predicted to be living with or beyond cancer in Considering these large numbers, there will inevitably be an increased incidence in ambulance service attendance to cancer patients. Current challenges in cancer care include ensuring that cancer patients receive support from the right person at the right time and with the right level of skills to meet their individual needs. The National Cancer Strategy also identifies that cancer patients are likely to want to know that everyone involved in their care has the necessary training and expertise. Thus, there are requirements for specific roles that support decision-making support and an enhanced understanding of care pathways. In response, SWASFT and Macmillan Cancer Support are working in partnership on a three year project to investigate the potential for enhancing the ambulance services contribution to cancer care. This is a ground-breaking partnership and the first collaboration of its kind between an ambulance Trust and Macmillan. We are seeking suitably experienced individuals to work as part of a team of Cancer Care Facilitators within the Ambulance Service. The successful applicants will provide clinical leadership, acting as a clinical and educational figurehead across service lines, delivering oncall, specialist clinical advice and identifying networks to support referral options. It is also intended that Cancer Care Facilitators work on opportunities for clinical improvement in cancer care, and deliver in-service learning and development to suit the needs of the workforce. The secondment will be run from 18 months to 3 years.
