2 Background Well for Life in Victoria since 2003 Health promotion principles Focussed on nutrition and physical activity Older people: HACC, public housing, residential care A third element - emotional wellbeing - was identified for inclusion

3 Emotional wellbeing Components Resilience and coping Sensory enrichment Productive contributions Emotional wellbeing Comfort and basic needs Social connections

4 Initiative Twenty-nine agencies funded to focus on the three components Short term projects to achieve long term change Diverse range of projects: meditation, relaxation, community garden, art, teleconferencing, Wii games, choir, thai chi, dance therapy and so forth, all with the three components

5 Information resources Started by developing Emotional Wellbeing information resources for testing Multiple Help Sheets : Promoting independence and autonomy Social relationships and connections Purposeful activities etc Plus education package

7 The evaluation challenge One evaluation 400+ clients 29 projects 3 elements

8 Approach 1. Develop evaluation framework and data collection tools 2. Workshops with project representatives 3. Ongoing contact, provision of learning opportunities and feedback 4. Measuring outcomes 5. Reporting on outcomes 6. Refinement of information resources

10 Client level measures Physical activity: used existing measures from Timed Up and Go or Senior s Fitness Test Nutrition: used existing Food Variety Checklist as measure Emotional wellbeing: Client survey with 30 questions using 10 point rating scale Short-form version with 9 questions
