1 APNA 13th Annual Clinical Psychopharmacology Institute #APNAPsychopharm Planned for nurses by nurses. June 11-14, 2015 Hyatt Regency Baltimore on the Inner Harbor

2 APNA 13th Annual Clinical Psychopharmacology Institute From Discovery to Recovery: Transforming Psychopharmacologic Nursing Practice Dear Colleagues, The APNA Clinical Psychopharmacology Institute is truly the psychopharmacology conference planned for nurses by nurses. Our committee has selected scientific presentations that speak to exciting new discoveries and the translation of these discoveries into the realities of psychopharmacologic nursing practice. With the theme From Discovery to Recovery: Transforming Psychopharmacologic Nursing Practice, this year s program will provide attendees with a breadth and depth of information tailored to the challenges inherent in our practice. Across the board this conference prioritizes the integration of scientific findings into the psychopharmacologic practice of nurses in our field. Each year our committee develops the theme and program based on the responses provided by attendees in their evaluations from the previous years. Consistent with this feedback, our aim is to go beyond presenting medication algorithms and instead offer the scientific base from which treatment decisions are made, while at the same time addressing aspects informing the context of care within the nurse/consumer/ family relationship. It is an exciting time to be a psychiatric mental health nurse with new discoveries emerging amidst known challenges for our practice. The complexities of our practice demand a strong foundation in the best neuroscience, along with the best of what our discipline can bring. This is our goal. After years at the Reston site, this year we will discover the Inner Harbor of Baltimore, Maryland. This new venue provides ample space for the growing number of nurses who come to the conference each year. Also, a number of convenient travel options are available (plane, train, bus, or car), which is definitely a plus! We are certain you will enjoy the close proximity of shopping, excellent restaurants, and local attractions to keep with our intent to make the meeting memorable. We hope you will join us for your 13th Annual CPI CPI Program Committee See you in June! Julie A. Carbray, PhD, FPMHNP, PMHCNs, APN, BC Chair, Clinical Psychopharmacology Institute Program Committee Julie A. Carbray, PhD, APN, BC Chair Kim G. Cox, MSN, RN, CNS CDR Joseph M. 4 The Crew KeynOteS Eric D. Green, MD, PhD Director, National Human Genome Research Institute, National Institutes of Health Eric D. Green, MD, PhD became the third Director of the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) in December Immediately prior to this appointment, he was the Scientific Director of NHGRI, a position he had held since 2002, and Director of the NIH Intramural Sequencing Center (NISC). While directing an independent research program for almost two decades, Dr. Green was at the forefront of efforts to map, sequence, and understand eukaryotic genomes. His work included significant, start-to-finish involvement in the Human Genome Project; these initial efforts latter blossomed into a highly productive program in comparative genomics that provided important insights about genome structure, function, and evolution. As Director of NHGRI, Dr. Green is responsible for providing overall leadership of the Institute's research portfolio and other initiatives; this requires significant coordination with other NIH components and funding agencies. In 2011, Dr. Green led NHGRI to the completion of a strategic planning process that yielded a new vision for the future of genomics research, entitled Charting a course for genomic medicine from base pairs to bedside (Nature, 470: ). Francis J. McMahon, MD Chief, Human Genetics Branch and Genetic Basis of Mood and Anxiety Disorders Section, National Institute of Mental Health Intramural Research Program, National Institutes of Health Francis J. McMahon, MD joined the Mood and Anxiety Disorders Program as chief of its Genetics Unit in 2002, previously serving as Associate Professor of Psychiatry and medical director of the Electroconvulsive Therapy Clinic at the University of Chicago. Recently, Dr. McMahon was named a Mallinckrodt Scholar by the Edward F. Mallinckrodt Foundation. He also serves as a scientific advisor for the National Tourette Syndrome Association, the University of Antwerp, the RIKEN Brain Science Institute, and numerous scientific journals. Current research priorities include fine-mapping bipolar disorder susceptibility loci on chromosomes 6q, 13q, 18q, and 22q; identification of clinical features that define highly familial clinical subtypes of mood disorders; and the elucidation of parent-of-origin effects in the familial transmission of mood disorders. FaCulty Carolyn Beebe Smith, PhD Chief, Section on Neuroadaptation & Protein Metabolism, Intramural Research Program, National Institute of Mental Health, National Institutes of Health Pamela Z.
