3 This initial University of Kentucky conference is designed specifically for faculty who teach in Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs. The target audiences are DNP program leaders and faculty who wish to enhance teaching strategies, student projects and solve programmatic issues. This conference will feature several national speakers as well as four concurrent sessions offered on both days. This allows participant attendance at all four sessions. The sessions will include leadership and practice projects, the role of the portfolio, and strategies for successful practice placements. Purpose and Learner Outcomes: Participants will use educational strategies to improve professional behaviors and leadership skills in evidence based practice to enhance the competency of the DNP graduate. Conference Objectives: Examine DNP education and practice models to determine strategies to improve nursing practice Compare National Organization guidelines for application in DNP education and practice Appraise the collaboration between academic and practice partners Assess strategies for developing DNP student leadership skills in practice Location: 127 Charles T. 6 Breakout Sessions Successful DNP Clinical Leadership Projects Karen Stefaniak, PhD, RN, past Chief Nursing Officer at UK Chandler Hospital, Professor UK This session will focus on identifying and guiding appropriate and meaningful finals projects for students in the leadership track. The leader and participants during this session will share successful student projects including topics, clinical mentors, and the advisor and faculty role as facilitators of the project The Impact of State Authorization and Regulations on Clinical Placements Sharon Lock, PhD, APRN, FNAP, FAANP, Professor UK College Of Nursing This session will focus on issues related to state authorization and regulations for distance education programs, particularly clinical placements. Participants will also explore strategies for complying with state authorization and regulations to meet the needs of students and the program Clinical Practice Projects: What They Are and What They Are Not Julie Ossege, PhD, FNP-BC, Professor UK Much variation exists among DNP programs across the country in terms of requirements for the clinical project. This presentation will 1) illuminate some of the variation, 2) provide rationale for the differences where available, and 3) provide a forum to discuss the ideal DNP project. An Approach to Portfolio Development: The Why and The How Carolyn Williams, PhD, RN, FAAN, Professor and Dean Emerita of UK Melanie Hardin-Pierce, DNP, RN, APRN, ACNP-BC, Professor UK This session will focus on both the rationale underlying one faculty group s adoption of a portfolio as a tool for tracking student development as well as competency attainment related to the DNP Essentials and practical issues related to implementation. Examples of types of evidence of competency attainment, portfolio organization and storage solutions will be provided.

Accreditation The University of Kentucky, is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC). This educational activity is offered for a maximum of ANCC contact hours. The Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN) approves The University of Kentucky, (UKCON) as a provider as well. ANCC and KBN approval of a continuing nursing education provider does not constitute endorsement of program content nor commercial sponsors. The University of Kentucky does not approve commercial products. This educational activity is offered for a maximum of 14.7 KBN contact hours. Provider #: In order to receive credit, participants complete CNE activity, complete the evaluation form. Certificates may be printed once the evaluation is completed. Disclosure All faculty members participating in continuing education programs sponsored by the University of Kentucky, are expected to disclose any real or perceived conflict of interest related to the content of their presentations. Faculty disclosures will be included in the program materials. Refund/ Cancelation Policy A full refund, less a $25 processing fee, will be issued for all cancelations received or postmarked at least one week prior to the course date. No refunds are issued thereafter. Cancelations received the day of the course are not eligible for a refund. UK Continuing Education reserves the right to cancel a course when circumstances are warranted. In such a case, a full refund will be issued.
