3 PURPOSE & OBJECTIVES PURPOSE: The purpose of this program is to provide you, the attendee, with information that will enhance your ability to create healthcare partnerships that will influence healthcare for veterans. OBJECTIVES: After completion of this program, participants will be able to: Describe the common interests of NOVA and professional nursing organizations such as AACN, ANA, AAMN and AANA. Identify NOVA s contributions to improving patient care in the Department of Veterans Affairs. Identify ways that NOVA and Veterans Service Organizations can strengthen partnerships to work together on behalf of veterans. Describe the plan to implement licensed independent practice for Advanced Practice Nurses in the Department of Veterans Affairs. Identify resources to support nursing recruitment in the Department of Veterans Affairs. Demonstrate the process of sharing NOVA s legislative agenda with elected officials. Identify ways to prevent lateral violence. Describe a comprehensive approach to end-of-life care for veterans. Summarize changes in nursing s future in the Department of Veterans Affairs. This activity has been submitted to the Phoenix VA Health Care System, which is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Arizona Nurses Association. The Arizona Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation.
