The Heavy Engineering Research Association (HERA) is New Zealand s leading centre for structural steel and composite research, providing advisory services, consultation and training. Due to an unprecedented level of project work, HERA is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer. Reporting to the Divisional General Manager, the successful candidate will have an MSc degree in Structural Engineering with at least 5-years experience in the design of multi-storey or industrial buildings, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience (previous experience in an R&D role, or a PhD degree, an advantage). Based in HERA s newly refurbished offices in Manukau, south of Auckland City, the principal tasks for successful candidate will be: Research and development of pre-normative design rules and tools promoting the proper and effective use of structural steel Industry research and consulting activities, such as product development work, specialist consultancy, etc. Internal report writing, authoring design guides and technical papers for external audiences and journals. Supervision, coordination and peer review of work from other structural engineers. Technical networking outside HERA, some external representation on committees. Successful candidates will have a good degree in an engineering, science, mathematics or computer science discipline and will probably be qualified to a higher level.
