11 Pharmacy Technician 6:00pm-9:00pm Cost of this course is $1, plus testing fees. This comprehensive 50 hour program will prepare students to work as a pharmacy technician in retail or other pharmacy setting and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board s PTCB exam. Course content includes: pharmacy medical terminology, the history of pharmacy, the pharmacy practice in multiple environments, pharmacy calculations and measurements, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Through classroom lecture and hands on labs, students will review dosage calculations, drug classifications, the top 200 drugs, I.V. flow rates, sterile compounding, dose conversions, aseptic technique, the handling of sterile products, total parenteral nutrition (TPN), dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursement. Program consists of 50 classroom hours and a clinical externship. 12 Tell us, what exactly is Mechatronics? A side from just sounding cool, mechatronics is quite interesting! This interdisciplinary area of engineering combines mechanical and electrical engineering, and computer science. A typical mechatronic system picks up signals from a given manufacturing environment, processes them to generate output signals, transforming them into forces, motions and actions. Think: mechanical automation. self-adaptive tools, contact-free magnetic bearings, automated guided vehicles, etc. Typical for such a product is the high amount of system knowledge and software that is necessary for its design. Furthermore, and this is most essential, software has become an integral part of the product itself, necessary for its function and operation. It is fully justified to say software has become an actual machine element. It is the extension and the completion of mechanical systems with sensors and microcomputers which is the most important aspect. The fact that such a system picks up changes in its environment by sensors, and reacts to their signals using the appropriate information processing, makes it different from conventional machines. Simply put, mechatronics blends mechanical skills and tasks with electronic design. A new face at SRTC is leading the way in mechatronic instruction. Joshua Whittington has recently joined the Economic Development team at Southern Regional Technical College. His role is to provide Business and Industry with skills assessments, training plans, and customized training for employers across a wide array of industries. His expertise will address needs for improvement that relate to manufacturing process operations, maintenance, and other activities that are important to the success of the companies served by Southern Regional Technical College. n Examples of mechatronic systems are robots, digitally controlled combustion engines, machine tools with

The class provides (6) six hours of instruction and review in preparation for the final exam which will be administered at the end of the class. If you successfully complete the examination at the end of the class, you will be issued a Certificate from the Educational Foundation of the National Restaurant Association: honored for five years.
