2 WELCOME GREATER NEW ORLEANS, INC. Dear Investors, Welcome to Greater New Orleans, Inc.! Thank you for your investment and support. Since 2004, GNO, Inc. has served the 10-parish region of Southeast Louisiana to consolidate, coordinate and catalyze action. We have brought together business and civic-minded leaders to address the region s most pressing challenges and are proud to have played a role in what the publisher of Forbes called one of the great turnarounds in American history. Our mission is to bring wealth and jobs to the Greater New Orleans region. We do this by pursuing an aggressive agenda of business development and product development. Our vision is for the Greater New Orleans region to fulfill its potential as one of the best places in the country to grow a company and raise a family. The work we re doing to ensure Greater New Orleans continued success could not be done without the support of our investors and community partners. GNO, Inc. provides our investors with opportunities to engage in impactful discussions and grow your personal and professional network. In the following pages, you will see ways in which your organization can get further involved. We look forward to developing these programs and deepening our relationship with you as we work together in making the Greater New Orleans region a better place to live and work. 4 OPPORTUNITIES As an investor in GNO, Inc., your intellectual expertise is imperative to our region s success. You are the eyes and ears of our community and regularly face issues and see opportunities where GNO, Inc. should deploy energy and resources. Please reach out directly to our President and CEO Michael Hecht at to inform us of such endeavors. REGIONAL ISSUES POLICY Despite the best of intentions, legistlation at the federal, state, and municipal level can make it difficult for your company or organization to thrive. In these instances, our public policy team can examine the issue and develop an action plan for success. Caitlin Berni, our Vice President of External Affairs, is ready to discuss any matters that come your way. EXAMPLE: Flood insurance After being made aware of pending flood insurance rates by one of our investors, our policy team examined the conditions that led to these rates and discovered a problem that would impact homeowners across the country. This was solved by creating a national coalition of community and industry leaders that pushed for legistlation that was ultimately passed into law in RETENTION If conditions within the Greater New Orleans region are making it difficult for your company or industry to thrive, our Business, Retention, and Expansion (BRE) lead can assist in developing a plan to mitigate these issues. EXAMPLE: Smoothie King s ownership had changed hands and, due to unfamiliarity with the market, was considering moving their headquarters from the region. Our team met with Smoothie King s leadership to ensure the right local connections were made and appropriate resources deployed to ensure their stay would be a successful one. QUALITY OF LIFE ISSUES To better educate and inform incoming individuals on schooling and housing options our Human Capital Manager is available to organize tours and share our relocation tools to help facilitate these transitions. EXAMPLE: Destination GNO Investor companies approached GNO, Inc. with their need to clearly describe the diverse neighborhoods found in this region. Starting with a printed booklet that highlighted some select areas, this project culminated with the creation of a website that matches users with communities that fit their needs and desires. REGIONAL OPPORTUNITIES BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS Our efforts in recruiting companies to the area consist of ongoing communication between national and international site consultants, alongside an aggressive agenda of lead development with companies that exist in our six target industries. To assist in these efforts, we welcome introductions to companies within your network that may benefit from an expansion or relocation. EXAMPLE: Smashing Boxes Leaders from this Durham-based digital agency were in town for New Orleans Entrepreneur Week in 2015 and approached local representatives about opening an office here. After we performed a cost comparison analysis and educated them on the tax incentives available here, Smashing Boxes moved to the region and continue to be a premier digital provider in the area. INTRODUCTIONS TO A PROFESSIONAL In alignment with our efforts in attracting talent to the region, our Human Capital Manager is dedicated to connecting new, qualified residents to resources, contacts, and occasionally, companies that are in the hiring process. EXAMPLE: One of our board members alerted GNO, Inc. to a native New Orleanian looking to return home and continue their career in videogame development. Through a series of conversations, this software developer was made aware of several local companies and is now employed at Gameloft. IDEA FOR IMPROVING THE ECONOMY Our Director of Program Development is available to discuss opportunities for GNO, Inc. to get involved in local industry and economic needs. EXAMPLE: A former board chair observed that the business community was not involved in pushing the agenda for coastal restoration and the associated economic opportunities. In response, he sought to create a platform for community leaders to experience the efforts being made in coastal restoration. In turn, GNO, Inc. created the Coalition for Coastal Restoration and Economy (CCRE) to be a leading voice in this movement.
