Shah hitshah54@yahoo.com Youth Secretary Shibani Shah shibani.shah@gmail.com Jai Jinendra, We congratulate all members and sincerely thank the volunteers and performers for making Saturday, April 19, 2008 Mahavir Jayanti a festive occasion. About 1,800 people attended the event at our center. We hope to build on such successes and make this a way of life at our society. For those who could not attend, the following summarizes our comments to you. Having completed many ongoing tasks over the past 3-4 months, we have just turned a the corner in terms of upcoming priorities and where our focus needs to be; temple construction and fund raising. For most of us a TEMPLE SPONSORSHIP opportunity presents itself only once in a lifetime. We request you to support our membership in RAISING FUNDS needed to complete our temple expansion and to bring stability to our future. In 2004 we embarked on an ambitious Expansion Project. With your support we have completed the expansion of our center and community hall. The remaining project of the temple expansion and reconstruction is now slated for completion in While we have secured a bank loan to complete the remaining construction project, we need a total of $6.5 million to redeem our debt and have sufficient operating funds for maintaining and operating our temple and the center. This will create an adequate foundation for an effective hand-over to the next generation. The temple construction will require the relocation and creation of a temporary temple and the help of at least five Shilpis doing marble and stone carving and installation work. We have hired one Shilpi locally (Kavindra Sompura) who is starting with us on May 5, Ongoing efforts are underway to finalize and procure new tables, stage curtains, stage lighting, and audio/video systems; all on schedule and targeted for full implementation before Paryushan. We seek your support in accomplishing this goal of an expanded-renovated temple within the next 9-12 months. It is the generosity of our donors that has created a 15-year legacy and continues to ensure our existence. We have designed new sponsorship opportunities. Please consider making the most generous donation you possibly can. Every member, every dollar, and every bit of volunteer time, will move us closer to SUCCESS. Sincerely, The Board of Trustees and Executive Committee Jain Society of Metropolitan Chicago Newsletter Editor: Tejas Shah Co-Editor: Tina Shah & Vipul Shah 1

3 Construction Update Temple Construction The construction committee and the BOT have had several meetings during the past month including meetings with prospective contractors. We have so far received bids from two contractors and we are expecting to receive two more bids by the time this newsletter is published. During the week of May 11, 2008 the construction committee and the BOT will carefully evaluate and deliberate all the bids. We hope to select the contractor by May 20, We expect construction to begin by June 1, 2008 with the help of Kavindra Sompura and local skilled and non-skilled workers. As announce in the previous newsletter Kavindra Sompura has been now hired by JSMC and has already started the preliminary work of taking inventory of the marble already received from India. During this process the missing and/or damaged pieces of the marble will be identified for re-ordering. He will also take new measurements of the property to determine the marble slabs of various sizes needed for the construction. We expect this work to be complete within the next few days and all the remaining marble will be ordered within the next four weeks. As previously announced the Utthapan Vidihi will be done in a ceremonious way the date TBD by EC. Once the construction begins the temple will be closed for public access. Temple Relocation A temporary temple will be erected in the current Upashraya and the Upashraya will be relocated for the duration of the construction at a place yet to be determined. Our current preferred location for the temporary relocation of the Upashraya is the newly renovated youth room. However, if anyone has any other suggestions for the relocation of the Upashraya, we are anxious for your suggestions. A well-known temple artist by the name of Nipul Shah in San Diego has been commissioned for designing and constructing the temporary temple for JSMC. We expect this to be delivered and erected by June 30, Stage and Audio-video After evaluating three bids for the stage curtain and stage lights a contract has been awarded to a company called Grand Stage. We expect this work to be completed by August 1, Jayesh Shah, the chairman of the A/V committee has met with two prospective A/V contractors. After receiving bids and proposals from at least three vendors, the BOT in consultation with the A/V Committee will award the A/V contract. While we want this work to be completed by December 31, 2008, it is too early as of yet to determine the completion date for A/V work. Miscellaneous Items Contract for the fiberglass dome will be awarded in next two weeks. This dome will replace the existing temporary dome in the temple and will have the look and feel of a marble dome Preliminary work for the storm water drainage, leveling the front ramp and designing the left only turn lane from southbound Route 59 to the Jain Center has started. We will provide more update regarding this work in future as and when more information is available. The BOT has been working with a renowned Immigration attorney for securing visas for Shilpis from India. If everything goes well we might have Shilpis from India within 6 to 8 weeks. Please pray with us so that we succeed in this. Sincerely, The Board of Trustees Jain Society of Metropolitan Chicago 3

JSMC will post your sponsorship on the notice board for a week and include your tribute in the JSMC newsletter recognizing your tribute. FOUNDATION DONOR FOR PATHSHALA Individual donors that choose to make stand-alone exclusive donations of $5000 or $15,000 under this scheme would have an opportunity to have their names (up to a maximum of 15 letters) carved (1 lettering for $5,000 and 3 for $15,000) on a foundation wall (as designated by the Board) at an entry point of Pathshala classroom area. GUARANTOR Effective 2008 these are the first 200 individuals/families that pledge a donation of $25,000 to $75,000 to be made in approximately a 2-3 years, due no later than December 20, These families do not have to pay anything upfront. Each would be supplied with information and material that could be used to communicate outward (beyond the JSMC members) to friends and families nationwide (including non-members), and encourage them to support the cause. JSMC will also assist and endorse to accomplish a successful fundraising. At the end of the term, and depending upon matching donations, the Guarantor will pay the balance of the pledged donation. The Guarantor will receive recognition as the primary fundraiser. JSMC will send out acknowledgments and receipts (as needed) to all contributors. EXECUTIVE SPONSOR There are four categories of Executive Sponsorship; Patron ($100,000 and higher), VIP ($150,000 and higher), Executive VIP ($300,000 and higher), and Benefactor ($500,000 and higher). Under this scheme, the Executive Sponsor shall fulfill the pledged amount within a 2-3 year term. JSMC wants to recognize the sponsor as the VIP person/family. NOTE: Recognizing the significance of achieving a debt-free status for our temple and to encourage participation, the executive sponsors shall be given credit for all donations made since 2005 in connection with the JSMC Construction Expansion Project. There are many traditional ways to contribute. Donations to the Jain Society of Metropolitan Chicago are tax deductible to the extent allowed and go a long way to work for religious as well as social purposes of our entire community.
