The rates are established by a meter. The white and gold colored taxis are older and being phased out. Although they are also provided with meters, drivers may negotiate the fare in advance. The recently introduced pink taxis are exclusively for female passengers and boys under the age of 10. They are driven by women and have the same fares as the silver taxis. The following advices are useful to know for taxi passengers in Abu Dhabi: Make sure that the driver has switched on the meter. Most drivers are familiar with landmarks, such as hotels, shopping malls and parks, rather than street names. The taxis fares are higher during the night time (from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM). Pay in cash; credit cards are not accepted. Tips are not mandatory, but appreciated. Enter the taxi from the right side as the door behind the driver is usually locked. Female passengers usually sit in the back of the car. Buses 20 4th Child & Youth Finance International Summit and Awards Ceremony

Legend has it that Sheikh Dhiyab of the Bani Yas tribe ordered his son, Sheikh Shakh, to establish a settlement on the site of a rare fresh water spring that had been discovered by gazelle hunters. The name Abu Dhabi means Father of the Gazelle. The name of the capital city of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Abu Dhabi, is also the largest of the seven individual emirates that make up the country. The UAE was created as a federation and became a unified independent sovereign state in With some 10% of the world's known oil reserves, Abu Dhabi ranks as the richest of the Emirates and a global economic powerhouse in its own right. Half Day Tour: Monday June 8 th or Friday June 12 th Abu Dhabi Pearl Journey Experience, 14:00 17:00 The Abu Dhabi Pearl Journey experience is the first cultural and tourism product of its kind in the capital. This is a unique educational and entertaining experience to enrich people s knowledge on the history of the pearling industry in the Arabian Gulf region, and how our forefathers dedicated their lives to collect thousands of seashells in hope to find a pearl. This program is offered and managed by Emirati & International Cultural experts & guides. During the tour the guide will explain to you about the pearling industry, as you listen to traditional "hoyamal" music which involve authentic cheering songs the pearling men used to sing. The guides will provide the oysters, which they get fresh from the sea, and then the process of opening the oysters and searching for the pearls begins. Participants can take photos of the great nature surrounding them, enjoy the beautiful pearls and sample some traditional food and beverages. The trip is about 60 to 90 minutes maximum and our boat can only take 20 people per tour. Each guest will be guaranteed one pearl. 24 4th Child & Youth Finance International Summit and Awards Ceremony

26 Full Day Tour: Monday June 8 th or Friday June 12 th Abu Dhabi City Tour, 9:30 17:00 Sheikh Zayed Mosque: The third largest mosque in the world. This mosque is named after Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan who was the founder and the first President of the United Arab Emirates. He is also buried there. The mosque occupies a large area between Mussafah Bridge and Maqta Bridge. Non-Muslims generally cannot enter mosques in UAE but Sheikh Zayed Mosque is an exception. Guests would need to adhere to the dress code of the Mosque for them to enter the mosque. Manarat Al Saadiyat: Manarat Al Saadiyat means the place of Enlightenment. It is a 15,400 square metre arts and culture centre, designed to bring the vision of the island to life through The Saadiyat Story. The venue also features four gallery spaces. Located on Saadiyat, this artistic venue houses TDIC exhibitions with international collections from around the world, including three major galleries, a central events gallery, sales centre and 250-seat theatre Masdar City: Abu Dhabi is designing the world s first zero-carbon, zero-waste city. Named Masdar City, which means the source. Although the desert might seem an unlikely location for such a large sustainable undertaking, Masdar will tread lightly on the landscape by harnessing solar power and relying on construction features that resist high temperatures, including extra shading and slab cooling. Its design is rooted in the Arabic tradition of walled cities but Masdar s stone-and-mud walls will be covered in photovoltaic panels capable of generating 130 megawatts. Along the site s northern edge, the walls will be more permeable to let in breezes. Electricity will also come from photovoltaic cells integrated into rooftops and a 20-megawatt wind farm. The city will get its water from a solar-powered desalination plant. Ferrari World Abu Dhabi: The world s first Ferrari theme park and largest attraction of its kind. The park pays tribute to the passion, excellence, performance and technical innovation that Ferrari has established over the years and represents today. Step past the main gates into an intense multi-sensory experience celebrating all things Ferrari. Fans, families and racing fanatics alike will experience the race, the culture, the indulgence and the history of Ferrari like no one has before. 26 4th Child & Youth Finance International Summit and Awards Ceremony

27 Further information on Abu Dhabi Location Abu Dhabi is both the capital city of the United Arab Emirates and the largest of the country s seven states (Emirates). The main city lies on an island approximately the same size as Manhattan, New York. Dress The attitude to dress in Abu Dhabi is relaxed, but visitors (men as well as women) are advised to show respect for local culture and customs in public places by avoiding excessively revealing clothing. Visas Language The official language of the United Arab Emirates is Arabic but English is widely spoken and understood. Alcohol Alcohol is permitted in Abu Dhabi and is served in hotel restaurants and bars but, with a few exceptions, is generally not for sale elsewhere. 4th Child & Youth Finance International Summit and Awards Ceremony 27
