3 BOSTON LEARN ON LOCATION IN A HISTORIC, GLOBAL CITY Boston is an ideal place to go to college but it is much more than just a college town. It is a global, culturally rich, sports-crazed and intellectually engaged city, where you will find old and new, tradition mixed with innovation, and centuries of history alongside history in the making. At Emmanuel College, Boston is a core part of your experience. Students live and learn within a hub of world-class medical and research centers, renowned art and science museums, and countless corporations and organizations that are making their mark locally and internationally. EXPLORE THE CITY Free concerts on the Esplanade Ice skating in the Boston Common Bruins and Celtics games at the Garden Restaurants in the North End Shopping on Newbury Street Faneuil Hall Marketplace at night EMMANUEL.EDU/BOSTON Take in centuries of history walking the narrow gas-lit streets of Beacon Hill. 4 5
4 17-ACRE CAMPUS IN BOSTON S FENWAY NEIGHBORHOOD WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD There s so much to do in Boston s Fenway neighborhood, from sharing a conversation at a local coffee shop to catching a Sox game at Fenway, the nation s oldest ballpark. Whether you re an athlete or artist, a foodie or fashion lover, you will find plenty to keep you entertained nearby. COLLEGES OF THE FENWAY Emmanuel is part of a six-college consortium with Massachusetts College of Art and Design, MCPHS University, Simmons College, Wentworth Institute of Technology and Wheelock College that was designed to give students the best of both worlds: living and studying in a small college setting while enjoying the resources of a large academic environment all within walking distance. In all, the Colleges of the Fenway (COF) encompasses more than 12,000 undergraduate students, 700 full-time faculty and 2,300 course offerings. EMMANUEL.EDU/COF 6 7
5 CAMPUS AND RESIDENCE LIFE 400 THE FENWAY: A PLACE TO CALL HOME Our residential 17-acre campus is your new Boston address for the next four years. And while the entire city of Boston is your extended classroom, the Jean Yawkey Center (or the JYC, as students call it) is your extended living room. It is your student center, your dining hall, your gym and fitness center, your hangout all rolled into one. It is your place to cheer on the Saints during basketball and volleyball games or to show off your poetry or songwriting skills on open mic nights. Take one look at the number of activities that take place in the sunny, two-story atrium every day and you ll see why the JYC is the hub of campus activity. And it all looks out over the quad, your new backyard and the perfect place for a game of Frisbee, a movie night or an outdoor study session. EMMANUEL.EDU/CAMPUSLIFE 8 9
6 LIVING ON CAMPUS There s a lot to love about living on campus. The bustling streets of Boston outside your window. Easy access to hot meals in the dining hall. Impromptu touch football games on the quad. So, what do our students like best about living on campus? The opportunity to meet new people, and the convenience of being so close to class with no commute time. Another plus? Living on campus is truly the most affordable way to live while attending college in the city of Boston. You ll find everything you need within your residence hall, including kitchen and dining areas, laundry facilities, and lounges equipped with computers, printers and bigscreen TVs. And the food? It s really good. Emmanuel is committed to purchasing fresh, local, seasonal ingredients for our dining hall and cafés. And with deli, grill, pizza, pasta and stir-fry stations, along with a salad bar, vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options, there s always something for everyone. 94% OF FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS LIVE ON CAMPUS LEARNING ON CAMPUS Emmanuel College has been educating students for nearly 100 years, and our campus serves as an ever-adapting link between our past and present. The iconic Administration Building represents the balance between tradition and transformation, with its Collegiate Gothic architecture and historic Chapel alongside high-tech classrooms and a recently renovated art department. Our newest campus building, the Maureen Murphy Wilkens Science Center, boasts 14 state-of-the-art laboratories, multi-purpose classrooms, meeting spaces and common areas, as well as a collaborative energy in which a new generation of students like you can prepare for high-growth professions and graduate study. Emmanuel is also the only college in the country with a private pharmaceutical research facility right on campus. Merck Research Laboratories Boston opened in 2004, bringing new academic and scholarship opportunities to the Emmanuel community
