Kelaysia Weaver Evaluation/Reflection Hampton University (HU) is dedicated to the promotion of learning, building of character and preparation of promising students for positions of leadership and service. Its curriculum emphasizes scientific and clinical training with a strong liberal arts undergirding. HU s historical influence on the nation s healthcare policies is evidenced by the efforts of the institution s most notable alumni; Booker T. Washington. It was Mr. Washington who first made a direct link between the economic progress of Blacks and the negative impact caused by premature death from disease. Moreover, Mr. Washington s National Negro Health Movement was adopted by the U.S. Public Health Service as part of the federal Office of Negro Health Works during the period of segregation. These efforts of HU alum Mr. Washington, laid the groundwork for the modern-day Healthy People Initiatives of the Department of Health &Human Services. In honor of our HU forebears who have worked diligently to improve the health of our nation, the members of Hampton University s Gamma Xi Chapter of the Rho Chi Honor Society worked to maintain this tradition of scholarship and service to the community of Hampton.
8 The Rho Chi Gamma Xi Chapter was active and vital this academic calendar year. There was continual interest in ensuring the success of the chapter through attendance of the Rho Chi Annual Conference in Nashville, Tennessee and implementation of service projects that enhanced awareness and understanding of the discipline of pharmacy on the campus and within the Hampton Roads community.
