(705) fax (705) Minutes of the Regular Board Meeting Catholic Education Centre Tuesday, June 21, A D Youville Street Time: 6:00 p.m. OPENING PRAYER Trustee Bellmore opened the meeting with a prayer at 6:00 p.m. ROLL CALL TRUSTEES: Michael Bellmore, Nancy Deni, Ray Desjardins, Tyler Peroni STUDENT TRUSTEE: Jordan Bates-Wright (absent with regret) ABSENT WITH REGRET: Jody Cameron, Estelle Scappatura OTHERS: Rossella Bagnato, Nicole Bédard, Joanne Bénard, Cheryl Ann Corallo, Terry Papineau RECORDING SECRETARY: Francine Brouse APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA: THAT the agenda be approved as presented. REG16-61 NOTICES OF MOTION There were no notices of motion. DECLARATION OF CONFLICTS OF INTEREST There was no declaration of conflicts of interest. PRESENTATIONS 1. So You Think You Know Mining Marymount Academy: Lucie Lapalme-Cullen, Principal at Marymount Academy introduced Mia Tullio who presented the Ontario Mining Association s So You Think You Know Mining Video. Mia and Maryka Moskalyk entered and won Overall Best Video and Teacher s Choice Award. The two students are also the recipients of other bursary awards including the Laurentian University Chancellor s award. Our Mission: To nurture and develop the mind, body and spirit of every student within our Catholic learning community. SCHOOLS TO BELIEVE IN

Everyone Succeeds, Everyone Counts: Special Education and Inclusion at Pius XII: Noreen Pellatt and Natasha Folino, teachers at Pius XII presented the Meet & Greet program that they began with the Care and Development Class. This program introduces students in the care and development class to the whole student body. Staff explain why some of the equipment is being used and why some students may look and speak differently but how students are the same and have many things in common. Since the program began students are more inclusive, welcoming and accepting. DELEGATIONS There were no delegations.. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES 1. Board Meeting held May 17 th, 2016: THAT the minutes of the Regular Board Meeting of the Sudbury Catholic District School Board held May 17 th, 2016 be approved as presented. REG16-62 BUSINESS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES There was no business arising from the minutes. BUSINESS 1. Expenditure Analysis/Variance (May 2016): The Expenditure Analysis/Variance report for May 2016 was presented. C. Corallo identified the proposed expenditures for the additional funds which are based on the system priorities. MOVED BY Tyler Per Seconded by Nancy Deni THAT the Sudbury Catholic District School Board receives the Expenditure Analysis/Variance Operating Variance Report for May 2016 as presented and approves the reinvestment of additional identified surplus as attached. REG Monitoring Report EL10 General Executive Limitations The Monitoring Report EL10 General Executive Limitations was presented.
3 MOVED BY Nancy Deni Seconded by Tyler Peroni THAT the Sudbury Catholic District School Board receives the Director of Education s Monitoring Report on Policy EL10 General Executive Limitations. REG Monitoring Report EL80 Financial Conditions The Monitoring Report EL80 Financial Conditions was presented. J. Bénard confirmed that the monitoring report was written with the May revised policy. MOVED BY Nancy Deni Seconded by Tyler Peroni THAT the Sudbury Catholic District School Board receives the Director of Education s Monitoring Report on EL80 Financial Conditions. REG Monitoring Report EL150 Education Field Trips The Monitoring Report EL150 Education Field Trips and Excursions was presented. MOVED BY Nancy Deni Seconded by Ray Desjardins THAT the Sudbury Catholic District School Board receives the Director of Education s Monitoring Report on Policy EL150 Education Field Trips and Excursions. REG Tender T Cafeteria Food Services at Various Schools The tender T Cafeteria Food Services at Various Schools was presented. Trustee Deni inquired about who supervises these services. J. Bénard reported that the services must comply with Ministry guidelines. MOVED BY Ray Desjardins Seconded by Nancy Deni THAT the Sudbury Catholic District School Board awards RFP #T for Cafeteria Food Services to Compass Group Canada Limited (Chartwell) (Ian Baskerville, VP & General Consultant), for a term of five (5) years. REG Tender Project Learning Commons Renovations at Bishop ACCSS The tender Project Learning Commons Renovations at Bishop ACCSS was presented.
4 MOVED BY Nancy Deni Seconded by Ray Desjardins THAT the Sudbury Catholic District School Board awards Project for the Learning Commons Interior Renovations at Bishop Alexander Carter CSS to Magnum Constructors Inc. (Pio Cerilli, President), in the amount of $226, excluding all applicable taxes. REG Revised Preliminary Draft Operating Budget The Draft Operating Budget was presented. Trustee Bellmore on behalf of the Board of Trustees thanked all staff in presenting a balanced and compliant budget. He reported that we have received notice from the Ministry of Education that as the Board has achieved a balanced budget we are no longer required to provide monthly reports. MOVED BY Ray Desjardins Seconded by Nancy Deni THAT the Sudbury Catholic District School Board approve the operating budget in the amount of $87,898, as presented which includes accessing the Special Education Reserve and reducing it by $1,406, REG Board Meeting Dates The Board Procedure By-Law 98-1, Section 4.02 states that the Regular Board Meetings will be scheduled to be held every Tuesday in each month from January to June and August to December. There will be no Regular Board Meeting in August THAT the Sudbury Catholic District School Board approves the Regular Board and Policy and Regulation Committee Meeting schedules for the school year as attached. REG Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) Minutes The SEAC Minutes from the meeting held on May 19 th, 2016 were presented.
5 THAT the Sudbury Catholic District School Board receives the minutes of the SEAC meeting that was held May 19 th, REG16-71 REPORTS 1. Report of the Chair/Director Trustee Bellmore reported that Trustees and the Director attended the CCSTA AGM and Conference in Yellowknife. A $4, cheque was presented to CCSTA raised by students and staff for the Toonies for Tuition Campaign. He thanked all students and staff for their contributions. The Director reported that the results of the Thought Exchange surveys are posted on the board s website and have been ed to all who participated. The Director reported that a Catholic School Council session was held on June 1 st, 2016 and on June 15 th the Parent Involvement Committee held a community event with Dr. Jean Clinton as guest speaker. 2. Report of the Student Trustee Student Trustee Jordan Bates-Wright was absent with regret from the meeting. Trustee Bellmore extended special thanks to her for representing the students at the board table and wished her success in her future endeavours. J. Bénard thanked Jennifer Connelly for her leadership and guidance in overseeing the student senate. 3. Teacher Staffing Report The teacher staffing report was presented. 4. Absence Report The quarterly absence report was presented. 5. Monthly Enrolment Report May 2016 The May 2016 monthly enrolment report was presented. CORRESPONDENCE Miscellaneous correspondence was presented. INQUIRIES Trustee Desjardins inquired about the JK enrolment for September. CLOSED SESSION OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE BOARD There was no closed session of the CWB. CLOSING PRAYER Trustee Bellmore led the closing prayer.
