USA IFC Recruitment Policy Recruitment is the lifeblood of a fraternity as new members bring fresh ideas and perspectives to the rich history and tradition of fraternal organizations. The IFC can best serve its member fraternities by promoting the fraternal experience, educating potential recruits on what it means to be a fraternity man and how to join. IFC will provide general recruitment training and education for its member fraternities. It is the duty of the IFC to assist in the recruitment process for potential new members. ARTICLE 1 RECRUITMENT POLICY Section I. Recruitment Philosophy The IFC supports open recruitment and believes a man shall be free to join a Member Fraternity at a time that is mutually beneficial to both himself and the Member Fraternity. To this end, the IFC shall not establish policies that inhibit men from participating in recruitment activities and joining Member Fraternities. The Interfraternity Council Vice President of Recruitment and Vice President Judicial are allowed to attend all registered Recruitment Events. Section II. Membership GPA Requirements Any Potential New Member shall meet the following GPA requirement in order to be accepted as a New Member by any Member Fraternity: A. a minimum high school GPA of 2.5 for first semester freshmen; or B. a minimum college GPA: 1. of 2.5; or 2. at/or above the institution s all-men s average. Section III. IFC Sponsored Recruitment Under the guidance of the IFC Vice President of Recruitment, the IFC shall designate periods of time during each semester when the IFC will assist Member Fraternities by advertising their recruitment events, hosting campus-wide recruitment events, and educating Potential New Members on the fraternity community.
The IFC Vice President of Recruitment shall solicit and maintain a Potential New Member Roster, which shall be a roster of men interested in fraternity recruitment, and shall make that list available to each Member Fraternity. Women are not allowed to play a part in any IFC Chapter Affiliated Recruitment Event. Section IV. Year-Round Recruitment Member fraternities are encouraged to participate in year-round recruitment. IFC shall establish recruitment practices and timelines as determined to best serve that Member Fraternity. At Summer Orientation Sessions, IFC may have a table to represent the respective organizations. The IFC Vice President of Recruitment will be in charge of staffing the table with the IFC Exec Board for summer recruitment. The IFC Exec Board will disaffiliate with their own Chapter s recruitment throughout the formal recruitment process. IFC will host two Greek orientation sessions, separate from summer orientation, for member fraternities. Each member Fraternity is allowed to have one table at each Greek orientation session. A maximum amount of brothers that can be present will be put in place during the events. All Potential New Members from summer orientation sessions will be contacted to attend. Section V. Member Fraternity Recruitment Each Member Fraternity shall develop recruitment events, materials, and activities that are: A. Values-based; B. Alcohol-free and illegal substance-free; C. Registered with the Office of Greek Life D. Generally in good taste; E. Not derogatory, degrading, or slanderous; and F. In support of the National Panhellenic Conference s Unanimous Agreement X that supports each College Panhellenic denouncing the participation of undergraduate Panhellenic women in men s recruitment. Section VI. Bidding Each Member Fraternity shall reserve the right to extend or retract a bid utilizing a process and timeline as determined by IFC. Each Potential New Member shall reserve the right to accept or decline any bid at the end of formal recruitment without any penalty or pressure placed upon the Potential New Member. No bid may be accepted during the summer or without going through formal recruitment.
The Potential New Member will be required to sign a Grade Release Card and the chapters will have access to the Potential New Members High School or Transfer GPA. Each potential new member will not be required to pay a nominal fee upon registration for IFC formal recruitment. Section VII. Report of New Members Each Member Fraternity shall submit a New Member Roster to the IFC Vice President of Recruitment within one week of pledging any New Member. Section VIII. New Member Disassociation / De-pledging A New Member shall reserve the right to disassociate / de-pledge from the new member process of any Member Fraternity at any time and may accept a bid from another Member Fraternity at any time following that disassociation / de-pledging. Each Member Fraternity shall submit an updated New Member Roster to the IFC Vice President of Recruitment within one week of any New Member disassociating / de-pledging. Section IX. Comity No Member Fraternity shall initiate communication with a New Member or Member of another Member Fraternity about disassociation / de-pledging in order to become a New Member or Member of their own Member Fraternity. Section X. Structure Term This Structure shall take in effect immediately following an IFC Chapter vote. The Formal Recruitment Structure voted on by an IFC Chapter Vote will not be eligible for amendment until after the formal process has concluded. The Formal Recruitment Structure only applies to the Summer/Fall Semester.
Meet the Greeks Info Session IFC will reserve the Student Center Ballroom for two nights. These two nights will serve as a Meet the Greeks session. This is an attempt to get every male interested in rushing to be able to get information from the chapters they want without having every single organization on campus present, it will only be the eight fraternities. It will be set up exactly like orientation where the tables are provided for each chapter. You can bring poster boards, videos, flags, whatever you would have brought to setup your summer table. There will be a strict limit to how many brothers may be present at your table. Upon the Conclusion of these sessions and Sorority Recruitment, IFC Recruitment Week will begin.
The deadline to sign up for recruitment is Sunday August 20th by Noon. At this point the eight fraternities will divided into two groups of four. The eight fraternities will be equally represented in a drawing. The first four fraternities pulled will be placed in the Group of Four #1. The next four fraternities will be placed in the Group of Four #2. August 21 th Group of Four #1 On this night, the first group of four fraternities will be scheduled to have their dry rush party at the student center. Each fraternity will have a designated room or area to host their party. You can bring whatever necessary to make the room yours. The men going through recruitment will be broken into four groups, each led by an IFC Exec Member. They will be on a rotating schedule going to each chapter during the night. Dinner will be provided by IFC. August 24 th Group of Four #2 On this night the second group of four fraternities will be scheduled to have their dry rush party at the student center. Each fraternity will have a designated room or area in the student center. The potential new members will again be in their four groups and rotated through the four fraternities. You can bring whatever necessary to make the room yours. IFC will provide dinner. The fraternities will be allowed to chose what room or area of the student center they wish to host their party at based on the rankings of the Spring semester s grades. August 26 th Round 1 of Parties Every fraternity is expected to have their house open from 6:00 to 8:00pm. Food can be provided and again a dry rush party can be held. Any of the men going through rush can come to any house, off campus included. ATO will be allotted the student center ballroom to host their event if needed. One member from IFC exec will be present at each house during this time. August 27 th Invite Only Invite who you wish to attend a rush party at your chapter house. ATO may use the student center ballroom if needed. Time is up to individual chapters but must be at least two hours. August 28 th Signing Day This is the first day that newly recruited men may receive bids and accept them.
