UCM Multipurpose Building Mat Points Central Missouri Mules Wrestling will have their first home dual this season after competing in 13 on the road or at a netural site. The Mules will host 12thranked NebraskaKearney on Wednesday, Jan. 24. Mat action gets started at 7 p.m. The Mules will look to end a fivedual losing streak when they take on NebraskaKearney. They will have a tough challenge with the Lopers as they enter the midweek match up at 171 overall. UCM s last dual was against then No. 19 Maryville. It was a tough loss on the road as UCM ultimately fell 389. Jesse Reser (165) and Ryan Morris (285) picked up wins for the Mules via a decision and pin, respectively. The Mules had their first home event this past weekend as they hosted the annual Roger Denker Open. Four grapplers were placewinners with Tyler Selemaea leading the way. He went 31 at 174 pounds to earn a second place finish on the day. The other three placewinners for the Mules at the Denker Open were Shea Conley (157, 4th), Zach Benner (184, 5th), and Dominique Hampton (197, 7th). UCM wraps up tournament competition for the regular season having competed in five overall. They had 26 overall placewinners and two champions. Following the dual against UNK, UCM will have four duals left in the regular season. The next two are on the road against league opponents before they return home. They will be at Lindenwood on Wednesday, Jan. 21. Following that dual, the Mules head to Fort Hays State on Friday, Feb. 2, to take on the Tigers. Series History Central Missouri vs. NebraskaKearney: 7230 The Mules and Lopers are set to square off for the the 31st time overall. Last season, UCM fell to UNK, 383,on the road. 6 Justin Ensign Head Coach (Wagner College, 2007) 3775 (Eighth Season) The season is Justin Ensign s eighth season as the head coach of the Central Missouri Mules Wrestling squad. Ensign has coached nine national qualifiers, five of which have earned AllAmerican status, in seven seasons. He has a 3465 dual record, with a.343 winning percentage and is 727 against MIAA opponents. Ensign and the Mules went 510 overall in duals and 14 in MIAA competition in In seven regular season tournaments, the Mules had 21 total placewinners, with six champions. At the MIAA Championships, Jesse Reser grabbed AllMIAA status placing second at 165 pounds, while John Feeney placed fourth at 133 pounds. At regionals, Cody Carson finished fourth at 174 pounds to punch his ticket to nationals, while Reser placed fifth at 165 pounds and Bradley Irwin was sixth at UCM AllTime Coaching s Coach......Pct. At Division II National Championships, Carson finished fifth at 174 pounds earning AllAmerican status for the Mules and became the fifth AllAmerican under Ensign. The season was a challenging one for Ensign and the Mules Wrestling program. UCM tied a program low dual wins in a season as they went 29 overall, finished sixth at the MIAA Championships, and placed 13th at regionals. The season was a recording breaking one for Ensign and the Mules Wrestling program. The team tied their highest finish at the national tournament with an11th place finish. Frank Cagnina defended his NCAA Division II National Title at 149 pounds, and Archie Williams earned All American status by finishing fifth at nationals at 174 pounds. Williams was the MIAA champion at 174 pounds, and De Quence Goodman finished third at 285 pounds at the MIAA Championships. The Mules finished 512 in duals. In the Mules went 66 during the regular season and 24 in the MIAA, with a lot of post season success. Cagnina won the first national title since the season. Cagnina and Ty Loethen are also the first AllAmerican honorees under Ensign. The two combined for 27.5 team points at the NCAAII National Championship, placing Central Missouri at No. 18 in the nation. Cagnina and Loethen were both AllRegion and AllMIAA wrestlers, while Josh Thomson also earned AllMIAA honors. In , the Mules finished 67 with a 23 conference record. Ensign finished the season coaching Eric Mateo at the NCAAII Wrestling Championship, who finished at 2121 overall. In his second season the Mules were plagued with injuries, finishing with a 314 dual record. The team may have been battered and bruised, but they still managed to have numerous top finishers at several tournaments throughout the season. Nick Viterisi earned AllRegion honors that season, and posted an impressive 2815 record. In his first season as head coach, , Ensign guided the Mules to a 77 dual record with three individual national qualifiers, finishing tied for 30th in the nation. Prior to being named the eighth bench boss in Central Missouri history, Ensign spent two years as a graduate assistant coach under legendary Mules Wrestling coach Robin Ersland, who left UCM for the head coaching position at Minot State (N.D.) following the season. During the two years Ensign was a graduate assistant under Ersland, the Mules compiled a 1416 dual record, while finishing in the top 25 at the NCAA National Championships both seasons (18th in 2009, 22nd in 2010). Ensign also helped guide the Mules to five individual AllAmerican performances. Ensign also spent one season as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Wagner College, in Staten Island, N.Y. As an assistant coach during the season, he helped the Seahawks finish fourth at the Virginia duals. Ensign also had two NCAAI East Region third place winners. Before starting his coaching career, Ensign spent four years on the mat for Wagner. He was named team MVP two times and spent two seasons ranked in the top five in the CAA. He was also a twoyear team captain, and twotime Iron Man award winner. Ensign was a fouryear starter, twice at both 141 and 149 pounds.
