The Texas Association of Journalism Educats annual convention will be held at the Wyndham Riverwalk Hotel in San Antonio Oct Students in contests will be allowed to use computers, but they must bring their own laptops and printers. Also, the two yearbook design contests will now be carried in as at the national JEA/NSPA conventions. Please check the Write-Off Rules f me infmation. Sessions and contests will cover broadcast journalism, photojournalism, newspaper, online media and yearbook. Students will have an opptunity to talk with media professionals at Breakfast with a Pro on Monday befe the keynote speech and awards ceremony. Fun is also on the agenda. San Antonio has much to offer, including the Alamo, Sea Wld, El Mercado, Six Flags Fiesta Texas and the Riverwalk. F a chance to learn and to have fun, plan now to attend the. ADVISERS AND STUDENTS: has wked hard to make sure you have an enjoyable and infmative time while in San Antonio. To ensure that everyone s time is equally enjoyable, we have established six rules of conduct which will be enfced during the convention by all advisers and hotel staff members. Violation of these rules will result in disciplinary action. 1. Students should be in their rooms making no excessive noise by midnight on Saturday and 11 p.m. on Sunday. The hotel reserves the right to remove any hotel guests who Best behavi cause disruptions. Rudeness to hotel guests hotel employees will not be tolerated. 2. No students will be admitted without an adviser chaperone approved by the school. At least one chaperone/adviser is required f every 12 students. Advisers/chaperones assume responsibility f their students behavi and well-being during the convention. 3. s will be held liable f any damage done to hotel rooms other facilities by students under their supervision. 4. Drinking possessing alcoholic beverages possession/use Every efft will be made to hon your request f a specific room type; however, rooms are assigned on the day of arrival and types cannot be guaranteed. Reservations made after the cutoff date of Sept. 23, 2014, subject to the availability of rooms. In the event of a cancellation, you must notify the hotel at least 72 hours in advance of your scheduled arrival and obtain a cancellation number. In turn, the hotel will release your guarantee and refund your deposit. Deposits are ffeited on all no-shows and reservations cancelled within 72 hours pri to arrival. Reservations will be accepted after the Sept. 23 cutoff, based on availability. However, the block may sell out befe that date, so make your reservations early. of illegal drugs is absolutely prohibited. 5. All students, chaperones, advisers and staff members are expected to wear their convention name badges at all times in the convention hotel. 6. officials reserve the right to declare all fees ffeited and to send delegates home at their own expense f violation of any all of these rules of conduct. Students do not need to attend the convention to enter uploaded contests, but a student from the school must be a registered convention delegate. See convention contest rules f specific rules. Entries will be entered online. Advisers must be members of JEA to enter students in these photo contests. Advisers should go to log in then follow directions f entering photos. Photos must be no me than 2000 pixels in the long direction and no larger than 2MB saved as RGB ( grayscale), JPEG files. Photos may be col (RGB) black-and-white (grayscale) a combination of col and black-and-white. Captions must be included in the Description field. F instructions on how to enter the caption go to Advisers may register contestants with student addresses so that students can log in and upload their own photos, teachers may upload the photos f the students. DO NOT wait until the contest deadline to register students. DO NOT bring images to the convention. All critiques will be completed online. DO NOT mail the photographs. DO NOT submit images in which the content has been significantly digitally altered.such images should be entered in the Photo Illustration competition. Photo illustrations are acceptable as part of a ptfolio in the ptfolio contest. Entries must be entered online no later than 11 p.m. CST, Tuesday, Sept. 30. Please add payments f these contests to your payment f other convention activities. DO NOT SEND PAYMENT TO JEA. TEAM SCAVENGER HUNT PHOTO CONTEST Teams of 3-5 students will use a single digital camera will go in search of photographs near the convention hotel. Teams will be given a list of items to photograph wth different point values. A maximum of 20 images will be submitted by the team, and the team with the highest point total will be named the winner. All photos must be taken with one camera. Payment of $25 per team.
