Savannah State University has approximately 35 computer labs across campus and boasts a student-to-computer ratio of 5:1. Time to gather up the books and head for class Savannah State University has provided generations of students with relevant, enlightening education in a social environment that propels them into the workforce, prepared and confident in their ability to compete in a constantly changing world. The University System of Georgia s core curriculum is the basis for Savannah State University s degree programs. The university, accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, offers 23 undergraduate degrees and five graduate degrees through three colleges: the College of Sciences and Technology (COST), the College of Business Administration (COBA), and the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS). If you plan to pursue a career in math or science-related fields, the Peach State Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (PSLSAMP) program may be the choice for you. University Resources Funded by the National Science Foundation, PSLSAMP seeks to increase the number of ethnic minority students graduating and pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields. Students receive a laptop computer, scholarship assistance, and valuable opportunities to engage in meaningful research with a faculty mentor and/or internships at other institutions. In collaboration with Georgia Institute of Technology, Savannah State University offers the Georgia Tech Regional Engineering time for class Program (GTREP) degrees in electrical, civil, computer and Web-based catalog access to over six million volumes mechanical engineering. GTREP students become Georgia Tech Galileo, an electronic library database of search engines students for their junior and senior years, but remain in or journals, encyclopedias, magazines and other information offered by the University System of Georgia Savannah rather than transferring to the Georgia Tech campus in Atlanta, Georgia. Junior and senior level classes are taught by JSTOR, an electronic archive of core scholarly journals Georgia Tech faculty residing in southeast Georgia and in Atlanta. in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences, many of which date from the 1800s The Asa H. 5 Orientation at SSU You ll begin establishing friendship life-long friendships during New Student Orientation, which is required of all students attending Savannah State for the first time. Over the course of several days, you will receive valuable information and take part in fun social activities that will help smooth your transition into college life. Orientation leaders will be able to answer any questions you and your family may have about registration, academic expectations, university policies and resources available on campus. Our Clubs and Organizations Seventy-five clubs and organizations on campus cover a wide spectrum of interests. Choices range from environmental or political concerns, performing arts and music, journalism or mathematics, or clubs that enhance your professional interests. Greek fraternities and sororities play an active role in campus life. You ll often find sorority or fraternity members enjoying a cookout in the circle, at the heart of the historic campus. A long campus tradition, each group claims a well-marked, designated area under towering oaks as a place to meet and socialize. WHCJ is the popular campus radio station where students can receive on-the-job training. The station plays a varied format popular with university students and listeners in the Greater Savannah area. The campus hosts business seminars and symposiums, concerts and recitals and sporting events that attract visitors from around the region. Many campus organizations contribute to the Savannah community through volunteer or fundraising activities. The Marching Tiger Band, also known as The Coastal Empire Sound Explosion, is the largest organization on campus consisting of over 100 members. The unique southern show-band style and precision, high-stepping gait offer an exceptionally entertaining experience. Members of the band also form the SSU Jazz Ensemble and the Symphonic Wind Ensemble. The university has a four-year Naval Reserves Officers Training Corps (NROTC) program that allows a graduate to receive a commission as an ensign in the U. S. Navy or a second lieutenant in the U.S. Navy or a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. There are also two-year and three-year Army Activities enrich our campus life ROTC programs available that award the graduate a commission as second lieutenant in the U. S. Army.
