Last year we had a $16, net Loss. There were many contributing factors to this but honestly we have been working at a loss for many years. Thankfully, we had Districts contribute over the years giving us a savings that we could work from. We are to the point where we MUST increase the tuition to try and come out even in the end. We know this will be a hardship to some and we hope, with the advance notice, you will be able to work things out to still come. Tyler and I look forward to seeing all of you each year. We both grew up in WOTFA and it's like a family reunion every year at Fiddle Camp. The website is currently still showing ALL info for last year. We should have something updated by the first of the year. If you want up to date info, join our Facebook Group "W.O.T.F.A. Workshop". Dates: July 16-20, 2018 Where: Moses Lake Christian Academy Cost: Adults $175 Youth $75 Any questions please us at wotfaworkshop@gmail.com ~ Page 2 ~

Take I-5 exit 68 and go East about 12 miles and the library will be on the right in downtown Salkum. Everyone is welcome. Here is all the news from District 9; It is with great sadness that I want to tell everyone that Chuck Montgomery passed away in late October. He was well known for his wonderful Texas style vocals and guitar playing and was also known for helping young people to learn music. Chuck was born in 1937 in Texas and was taught to play the guitar at an early age by his father. He joined the Air Force on his 17th birthday, although he told everyone he hated ~ Page 7 ~

9 flying! He retired from the State of Washington in 2002 and began to sing and play guitar with the Washington Old Time Fiddlers at that time. He also volunteered at a local elementary school teaching music. His version of 'Kentucky Waltz' and 'Cool, Clear Water' were always favorites. He will be greatly missed. An open mic celebration of life is planned for Friday, December 8th at the Ira L. Cater VFW on Martin Way in Olympia at 3pm. It was Chuck's wish that there be no sadness surrounding his passing, only a happy celebration with friends, family and lots of music, so if you come, please bring your instrument. We have a playdate on Wednesday, December 13th from 4:00-5:00pm at Colonial Stillwater Estates in Centralia. For January: We are moving to a new location for our monthly meeting & jam! We will be at the Adna Grange on Saturday, January 27th from 10am-1pm. We will be jamming in the main hall of the grange. It will not be a potluck because the grange will be hosting their famous baked potato bar in the grange kitchen from 11:30-1:30pm. This is a potato with all the fixings and even dessert for $7 per person. The grange is located at 123 Dieckman Rd in Adna, Wa. To find the grange, take I-5 to the Hwy 6 exit (Exit 77), then head West. 10 on the membership area on WOTFA website. We acquired a good number of new members and new officers have volunteered to help build our district. Once again the Washington State Fiddle Championships will be held the first weekend of the Clark County Fair and hosted by District 10. Exact dates to be announced. We'd like to thank WOTFA and WOTFA districts 3,4,5,6,8,10,11,12,15 and 16 for generously contributing last year and ask that you support the contest again this year. Fiddle contests are one of the best ways to promote fiddling! As good examples of fine fiddling are presented more publicly we can grow our membership and interest in the art form. Our team is dedicated to working hard to present this contest and are very excited to establish it. For more info please visit or find us on face book. I'd like to encourage our members to help WOTFA save money in printing and mailing costs by going to your membership profile and unchecking the box to receive a newsletter by snail mail. I understand there are some that are not comfortable with that but for those of you who are, please let us know by changing that setting on your profile. Members can log in to download and print the newsletters from the WOTFA website. Once you're logged in, just click the newsletter tab at the top of the page.
