For more information, visit mstangsoflascolinas.com or call (972) Main Street Event Laghs by the Lake Make September a Month to Remember with Irving Events The City of Irving Parks and Recreation Department has organized two mega events to close ot this smmer with family fn and laghter. With Irving Main Street closing ot the smmer events schedle and the mch-anticipated retrn of Laghs by the Lake, tailored to tickle the fnny bone, on the horizon, Irving residents have access to some of the best regional commnity entertainment. Laghs by the Lake Jmbo jokes and gigantic giggles are in store for the retrn of North Texas largest otdoor comedy festival, Laghs by the Lake, which will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 4 at Lake Carolyn, 501. E. Las Colinas Blvd. More than jst a show, the Laghs by the Lake event offers adlt attendees access to good food, fn and free performances by some of the region s top comedians. Hosted by last year s headliner Aaron Aryanpr, the 2015 linep incldes Ryan Perrio, Enice Elliott and 2009 Fnniest Comic in Texas Pal Varghese. Immediately following the two-hor comedy show, Memphis Sol Band will take the stage with a sol and fnk msic concert. Being one of the city s newest events has not preclded Laghs by the Lake from receiving statewide recognition. After its inagral rn in 2014, the Texas Recreation and Park Society presented Irving s Parks and Recreation Department with the Lone Star Programming Award for Laghs by the Lake. According to jdges, Laghs by the Lake is an innovative program that offers a niqe recreational experience for adlts. More than 1,500 people are expected to fill the greenspace adjacent to Lake Carolyn with lawn chairs and blankets nder the evening sky, so early arrival is recommended. As a reminder, this fnnybone-tickling event is geared toward adlt adiences. Main Street Event Hometown fn awaits the entire family at the twoday Irving Main Street Event set for Sept The festival opens with live msic and a variety of free children s activities from 6 to 10 p.m. Sept. 18. The festival contines from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 19 with the Manifolds on Main Street Car Show and a craft marketplace featring a variety of vendors. Yong and old will delight in the atmosphere provided by Irving Main Street Event. Activities in the Children s Zone inclde pony rides, petting farm and video game trck. In the same area, yong people also will enjoy local cheer grops, msic and other forms of free, kid-friendly entertainment. The car show will featre cstom and classic cars. For live entertainment enthsiasts, bands on the Main Stage alone will be worth a visit. 2 HAWKINS NAMED ARTS CENTER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Todd Eric Hawkins has been named exective director for the Irving Arts Center. He becomes the fifth exective director for the Irving Arts Center since its doors opened in Hawkins comes to Irving with considerable experience, having led the implementation of pblic arts programming in New York City, where he served as project manager for Pblic Art for Pblic Schools since He also served as co-chair of the Americans for the Arts Emerging Leaders Concil, a nationally elected body of individals advising the next generation of arts leaders. Richard Hff, who is set to retire this month, served as the art center s exective director for the past 20 years. Hff was recently presented the Selina Roberts Ottm Award at the Americans for the Arts 2015 Annal Convention in Chicago. Presented jointly by Americans for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts, the Selina Roberts Ottm Award recognizes otstanding contribtions in the local arts agency field. n Dr. Kaboom Arts Center Offers Stories, Science Irving Arts Center, 3333 North MacArthr Blvd., is a Smithsonian affiliate instittion. Frazee s whimsical drawings are featred in several books, inclding Roller Coaster, Walk On!, Santa Clas the World s Nmber One Toy Expert and The Boss Baby. Garcia proposed the challenge to the two largest cities in Dallas Conty District 4 to help fortify Carter BloodCare s blood bank dring the smmer months, which are known for historically low participation rates. Participation in this initiative was accepted by Irving Concilman Gerald Farris and Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen at a Dallas Conty Commissioners Cort meeting held in Jne. Donors mst be 17 or older, possess a valid ID and meet all other qalifications at time of registration.
