Hello again everyone. This past month I was in California and there I heard a great story from my friend who is a Mason and I would like to share it with you. The story is about the extent of Brotherly bonds that we share consciously or unconsciously within Freemasonry. My friend has a home in London and was living there in That was the time when the London Riots broke out and the mobs were burning buildings, destroying homes and vandalizing properties. My friend s home, unfortunately, was right in the neighborhood where this ruckus was ensuing and continued all night. His mother called him the next morning to ensure if he was ok and if there was any damage to his house. He calmed her down by confirming that all was alright. However, here is the interesting part; there was a 24 hour period between the time the riots broke out and the time his mom called him. And within that 24 hour period, more than four of his Masonic brothers and lodge officers had called him to check on him to make sure he was safe and sound. Think about it for a second! His Masonic Brethren checked on him before his own Mother called. I am not sure what that says about my friend s family but it speaks volumes about the Masonic Brotherhood. As we come to lodge, attend meetings and go to events, we don t even realize Continued on page 10 D & J Handyman Services A Senior Serving Seniors *Install Assist Bars, Hand Rails, Ramps Minor Electrical, Plumbing Repairs Bro. Thanks to everyone who helped make Cinqo De Mayo a great success. The food made by Brent Bowers and his wife Ann was amazing. It seemed like everyone had a lot of fun. We had approximately 20 more in attendance than last year. I hope that is a trend we can continue. We are about to take our annual summer break from stated meetings. I hope everyone enjoys there summer to the utmost. As you are spending time with your families this summer, enjoy every moment. Tell your wives and children you love them. Reach out to your brothers and offer a hand. We always say let me know if you need anything; but, we all know that when it s us that need help, it is hard to ask. Be proactive in this and be a better friend and brother. We will be having a table lodge in late June. Please watch your s for more news on this event. Have a great summer vacation! Larry Haines, Worshipful Master The Masonic Ring The Masonic (Square and Compasses) ring is not an official item of Masonic Jewelry. General consensus seems to be that if the wearer wishes to advise others that he is a Master Mason, then he should wear the ring with the Compasses points toward the fingertips. If the ring is worn to remind the wearer that he is a Master Mason, then he should wear it with the compasses points toward the wrist. Summer allows us to enjoy those American pastimes we hold so dear; cookouts, Baseball and leisure in the sun. July 4 th, is the most treasured of American celebrations! We did a long form Red Cross for the first time in a while. We travelled very well throughout the 8 th Division; and last but not least we had a very successful inspection. I would like to thank all of you who helped set up and tear down all sets for our stated meetings and events. It takes a lot more work to pull all those events off than just a bit of memorizing. The second noteworthy event is, we will have the Typewritten Ritual at our Stated Meeting, July 6 th, open, for the Master Mason Degree. This is to benefit the officers as next year s inspection will be in that degree and clarity can be made on the words of the ritual. Also, Monday, July 11 th the 21 st District Awards Night will be held at the Arrowhead Golf Club at 6:00 p.m. Contact R.Wor.Bro. Mike Lengler for reservations. One other note of importance is the program at our August 3 rd Stated Meeting. Wor. Bro. Paul Baltzer, Western Star Lodge No. 304, Albion PA., will be paying us a visit and presenting our program for the evening. Wor. Bro. Baltzer is a Master Masonic Scholar through the Academy of Masonic Knowledge of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania and his program for the evening will be on the spread of Freemasonry in the United States. Please join us and welcome Wor. Bro. Baltzer and enjoy his enlightening program as we have another unofficial More Light Night in Canton Lodge. Remember Brethren, we will be business casual dress from July through August and go back to traditional attire in September. Leave the coat & tie at home for the summer. As we head into summer, we lower our working tools but never drop them, hence only one stated meeting in July and August. Be prepared to pick the tools back up in September! Have a great summer and enjoy your family time. God bless, Eric Muehlenbein, Worshipful Master Editors Note! This is a piece sent to me via the interne some time agot. You may have already read or seen it before and although it is really not Masonic by nature, it is worthy of reprinting. So many of us fall into this category and are trying our best to enjoy our later years. Enjoy! Your Editor, Bob Old age is a gift Old age! O-kay? I decided it is a gift. I am now and probably for the first time in my life, the person I have always wanted to be. Oh, not my body! I sometime despair over my body the wrinkles, the baggy eyes and the sagging butt. And often I m taken aback or down right shocked, by that old guy that lives in my mirror, but I don t agonize over those things for long. It becomes like a family related by non-blood relationships. June will be a very busy but a fun filled month for us. We will start the month with many lodge brethren attending a dinner on Friday the 3 rd in Akron, Ohio in honor of the Meritorious Service Award being presented to Brother Bill Bird and Brother Gary Marks, both from our lodge. Congratulations my Brethren! During our Stated Meeting on the 10 th, the Jobs Daughters, Bethel 31, will pay us a visit. I am really looking forward to this evening and encourage you to attend as well. We will have the Widow s Tea on the 11 th and it will be at my home at 1:00 p.m. Please come to the tea if you can so the lodges Masonic Widows can have a great experience. These are the ladies who, for so any years, put up with their husbands while they took part in Masonic activities. The week after the Tea, we will have a Special Meeting for the Master Mason Degree on the 17 th. Finally, the month will end with the Hawaiian Shirt Night on the 24 th. On that evening, Judge John Wise will do a program on the US Court Systems. As you are aware, McKinley Lodge goes dark for the months of July and August; however, at the moment I have Friday, July 8 th, Friday, July 22 nd as well as Friday, August 26 th reserved for special meetings in order to get all the new candidates we have on line, initiated and started into Masonry. We also have the Fellow Craft Team Picnic and Past Masters Picnic scheduled for Saturday, July 16 th and Saturday, August 13 th respectively. It s going to be a busy and fun summer. This is all for now Brethren. I wish you a great and happy summer and hope to see you at the lodge. Stay safe and until next time, God Bless! 14 Page 14 THE MASONIC BULLETIN June-July-August, 2016 Old age is a gift Continued from page 10 I will sing by myself to those wonderful tunes of the 40 s, 50 s, and 60 s and if I, at the same time, want to shed a tear over a lost love of well I will. I will go to the beach in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body and will dive into the waves without a care if I choose to, despite the pitying glances from the bikini set. They too, will get old. I know I am sometimes forgetful. But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten and I will eventually remember the important things. Oh sure, over the years my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers, or even when a loved pet gets hit by a car or gets sick? But broken hearts are what give us strength, understanding and compassion allowing us to travel on down that some times rocky road called LIFE! A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect. I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turn all different shades, even gray, and eventually fall out! To have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face. So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver. I can say no, and mean it. I can say yes, and mean that too! As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think. As long as you care about what God thinks! I don t question myself anymore. I ve even earned the right to be wrong. So, to answer your question, I like getting old. It has set me free. I like the person I ve become. I m not going to live forever but while I m still here, I will not waste time worrying about what could have been, or worrying about what will be. And I will eat dessert every day, if I want it. I ll wear loud ties, or no tie! But in all things I WILL enjoy what s left of my life, and no regrets! AND TO ALL MY FRIENDS I tip my hat to you! Enjoy yourself too. Don t forget that the tomorrow we were looking so forward to IS HERE! Enjoy it! It will not last! It s like a puff of smoke or steam; it lasts a second and then is gone but hold on to the memories! Today, I wish you a day filled with ordinary miracles! May God Bless your coming and going! Canton Flower Shop Flowers that Smile 201 Central Plaza South (330)
