The state has added jobs over the month in six of the last seven months and over the year for seven straight months. It shows the highest employment level since October Private sector employment (1,667,400 jobs) added 8,600 jobs over the month and gained 22,900 jobs over the year. Private sector employment has added jobs over the month in six of the last seven months and over the year for seven consecutive months. Mining and Logging (35,200 jobs) gained 400 jobs over the month with no change over the year. This shows three straight over-the-month gains and ends a streak of 46 straight over-the-year losses. Construction (149,700 jobs) gained 2,200 jobs over the month and added 2,300 jobs over the year. Construction has seen over-the-month gains in five of the last six months and over the year gains in 16 of the last 17 months. This is the highest employment level in series history. Manufacturing (137,500 jobs) added 800 jobs over the month and added 2,500 jobs over the year. Manufacturing has seen five straight gains both over the month and over the year. Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (379,600 jobs) added 100 jobs over the month but lost 3,900 jobs over the year. The series has seen 30 straight over-the-year losses. Retail trade added 700 jobs over the month but lost 2,900 jobs over the year. The subsector has now seen 15 straight over-the-year losses. Information (23,500 jobs) gained 200 jobs over the month but lost 300 jobs over the year. Information has seen 11 straight over-the year-losses. Financial Activities (91,500 jobs) added 500 jobs over the month but lost 600 jobs over the year. The series has seen over-the-year losses for 18 straight months. Professional and Business Services (215,200 jobs) added 800 jobs over the month and added 6,700 jobs over the year. Professional and business services has seen over-the-year gains in eight of the last nine months. The administrative and support and waste management and remediation services subsector lost 300 jobs over the month but added 5,900 jobs over the year. Education and Health Services (321,900 jobs) gained 2,500 jobs over the month and added 7,800 jobs over the year. The series has added jobs over the year for 139 consecutive months. This shows a series high for employment. The education services subsector had no change over the month and lost 500 jobs over the year. The healthcare and social assistance subsector added 2,500 jobs over the month and gained 8,300 jobs over the year for a new series high for employment. Leisure and Hospitality (238,100 jobs) gained 1,700 jobs over the month and added 6,700 jobs over the year. This shows 11 consecutive over-the-year gains. Other Services (75,200 jobs) lost 600 over the month but added 1,700 jobs over the year. This shows five straight over-the-year gains after 19 straight losses. Government (325,700) gained 600 jobs over the month but lost 3,000 jobs over the year. State government (85,700 jobs) lost 200 jobs over the month and lost 2,100 jobs over the year. Local government (209,100 jobs) added 800 jobs over the month but lost 1,000 jobs over the year. Civilian Labor Force - Statewide and National Trends: The preliminary, seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate for Louisiana increased to 4.5 percent from the March revised rate of 4.4 percent. The national unemployment rate for of decreased to 3.9 percent from the March rate of 4.1 percent. Total unemployment in the state for was 95,725. The state civilian labor force increased to 2,138,220 with an increase in total employment to 2,042,495. The series average for the years for shows a gain of 6,000 jobs over the month and a loss of 1,200 jobs over the year. This is the seventh straight over-the-year increase and then highest level of employment since December Total private employment (1,668,200 jobs) gained 15,900 jobs over the month and added 26,100 jobs over the year. The series average for the years in show a gain of 4,400 jobs over the month and a loss of 900 jobs over the year. Total private employment has added jobs over the year for seven straight months and the highest level of employment since December Mining and logging (34,700 jobs) gained 400 jobs over the month while showing no change over the year. This ends a streak of 46 straight months with an over-the-year loss. Construction (150,100 jobs) gained 3,800 jobs over the month and added 4,100 jobs over the year. This is a series high for employment. The estimate shows over-the-year gains in 15 of the last 16 months. The construction of buildings subsector added 1,000 jobs over the year. Heavy and civil engineering added 2,500 jobs over the month but lost 400 jobs over the year. The specialty trade contractors subsector gained 1,700 jobs over the month and gained 3,500 jobs over the year. Manufacturing (137,300 jobs) gained 1,600 jobs over the month and added 3,000 jobs over the year. This shows the largest overthe-month gain since Durable goods manufacturing gained 300 jobs over the month but lost 800 jobs over the year. Nondurable goods manufacturing added 1,300 jobs over the month and 3,800 jobs over the year. Trade, transportation, and utilities (379,100 jobs) added 800 over the month but lost 2,100 jobs over the year. The sector has lost jobs over the year for 31 straight months. Wholesale trade added 500 jobs over the month and added 1,700 jobs over the year. Retail trade added 1,600 jobs over the month but lost 1,100 jobs over the year. Leisure and hospitality (239,300 jobs) gained 5,100 jobs over the month and added 5,900 jobs over the year. It is the 11 th consecutive over-the-year gain. Arts, entertainment, and recreation added 700 jobs over the month and added 500 jobs over the year. Accommodation and food services added 4,400 jobs over the month and added 5,400 jobs from last year. Other services (75,100 jobs) lost 400 jobs over the month but gained 1,400 jobs over the year. Government (328,900 jobs) added 1,900 over the month but lost 3,300 jobs over the year. State government (86,800 jobs) lost 600 jobs over the month and lost 2,100 jobs over the year. Local government (211,400 jobs) gained 2,600 jobs over the month but lost 1,200 jobs over the year.
