Welcome to the NCESD Educational Foundation! Who are we? The NCESD Foundation is a 501(c)3 designed to support and assist the educational and certification training activities of the four counties (Chelan, Douglas, Grant and Okanogan) that comprise North Central Educational Service District (NCESD).
How did we get here? The seed was planted The need was recognized The application was made The key players were selected The vision/mission was formed
How did we get here? The seed was planted why a Foundation? A state agency cannot make a gift of public funds For flexibility in revenues and expenditures To provide more opportunities to supplement learning for teachers, schools & students.
How did we get here? The need was recognized Sage advice from an experienced long time educator
Why an ESA Foundation? State funded organizations cannot make a gift of public funds Donations can be used as tax deductions because of 501(c)3 designation Small school districts may not have the time or capability of forming their own Foundation if they want to start a scholarship program.
How did we get here? The application was made o Applicant was selected (I was working on my Business Degree) o Consulted with Attorney General s office o Acquired services of pro bono attorney o Seed money provided to begin account and fund application process ($300)
How did we get here? Key players were selected o Applicant became Liaison o Superintendent became consultant o Board members were recommended/ selected
How did we get here? The future was envisioned o Foundation Board met for strategic planning o Mission and Vision were formed o Priorities were selected Teacher classroom grants and student scholarships
NCESD Educational Foundation Vision/ Mission Vision: Building Bridges by joining hands to connect our children to the world of opportunity. Mission: We create community partnerships to develop resources and grants to inspire, ignite and expand opportunities for our students and teachers.

Omak High School This was great for my classroom. Students have a very hard time visualizing compounds. Much of biology today is based on being able to describe what is going on at the molecular level. These Molecular Molecules greatly aided my students understanding of protein folding. I used it with my biotechnology students as both a review activity and then as an assessment. They had to describe what changes would occur in the protein they had built if an amino acid changed. They could explain with detail and the correct vocabulary. Being able to manipulate and point at the key parts of the amino acid chain really helped. ~Nancy Ridenour, Omak High School

Oroville Structures of Life web cam: Osprey nest Thanks to the ESD and many other partners, my fourth grade class was given a wonderful opportunity to study nesting osprey with the purchase of a web cam. We have been able to watch the pair rebuild the nest after returning around late March. We also witnessed the pair nesting, with the first egg noticed on April 25. We are very thankful for such an amazing opportunity. Thanks to ALL involved! ~Kelly King, Oroville Elementary

Fine Arts Grants provided by the Woods House/Woods Family Fund
Harp for Wenatchee H.S. Mariachi
Moses Lake High School: Electronics for ELL Thanks so very much for all of your support! I was able to purchase a device that helped not only my ELL students look up words, phrases, etc., but it helped all of my other students have the same technological accessibility as well. With the purchase of the device I was able to meet my intended goals for the project. A student I have in my college prep English class currently has an IEP that requires me to give him extra time on his assignments. With this device he is able to look up what he needs in a matter of seconds and is currently turning in all of his work at the same time as all of the other students. It has helped me tremendously! Thank you! ~Amanda Kirkham, Moses Lake High School

The First Challenge Make a LEGO vehicle that rolls down the ramp Measure how far it rolls beyond the bottom of the ramp. Compare designs to create vehicles that roll the farthest
The Next Challenge Create a vehicle that can roll on it s own.
The Big Challenge Create a vehicle that can carry a ball down the ramp and dump the ball into the box.

Thank You NCESD Educational Foundation Thanks to your generous gift, students enjoyed problem solving in three dimensions. The smiles tell the story of fun and meaningful learning that comes from the process of idea, failure, struggle, re design, and success. And the good news is that we can do it all again next year. Thanks so much! Eric L. Tiegel Beaver Valley School
