PO Box , Big Sky, MT (406) gallatinrivertaskforce.org Social Media Guidelines Responding to Negative Comments on Social Media A delayed or inappropriate response to negative comments on social media can turn a complaint into a disaster. It is the responsibility of the Education and Communications Coordinator to monitor and respond to comments and posts on all Task Force channels. If you notice a negative comment on social media, notify the Education and Communications Coordinator immediately. Responses to negative comments should be quick, polite, and direct the conversation offline. If the E&C Coordinator is out of the office, consider the following guidelines when responding: Thank the commenter for their opinion (thanks for expressing your concern about ). Correct any factual inaccuracies OR apologize if necessary and list timeline for action (we re sorry you re having problems with ). Direct conversation offline by encouraging a PM and listing or phone.

PO Box , Big Sky, MT (406) gallatinrivertaskforce.org If appropriate, ask the commenter to remove or edit negative post when the issue has been resolved. Do not delete negative comments unless they violate our community guidelines listed below. Negative comments demonstrate transparency, and timely, polite responses often reflect positively on the brand, rather than the commenter. Social Media Community Guidelines Gallatin River Task Force social media channels are a place to have conversations about the Gallatin River. We love our river and our lively social media community. We welcome your comments and feedback. Help us foster an environment of mutual respect and keep the following guidelines in mind: Post relevant, fact-based comments. Refrain from the use of profanity, personal attacks, sexually explicit content, offensive language, and hate speech. Do not use our Facebook page to promote a business, raise money, violate copyrights or intellectual property rights, and conduct illegal activity. When in doubt, think "Golden Rule": treat others the way you would like to be treated. We reserve the right to remove and report posts that do not follow these guidelines. Read our privacy policy to learn how we protect your privacy: If you have any questions or want to report violations of our policy, send us a personal message.

Gallatin River Task Force Crossing the beautiful Gallatin River just north of Manhattan is the Nixon Bridge. This historic an iconic structure was originally built in It is one of the few remaining pinned steel truss bridges and is eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. Unfortunately, Gallatin County is planning to construct a new concrete bridge just upstream from it for a small subdivision on the north side of the river. Included in their plans is destruction of this unique piece of Gallatin County history. A group of concerned citizens including the Manhattan Rotary Club, the Manhattan History Museum, the Historic Preservation Board of Gallatin County and the many individuals who have signed petitions, all want this historic bridge preserved. It would become part of the recently constructed trail system in the area as well as providing safe pedestrian access across the Gallatin River since the new bridge would have no provision for safe foot traffic across the bridge. Other similar but much larger bridges have been preserved for this same use at Great Falls, Missoula, Fort Benton and Wolf Point and have added greatly to the benefit of their community. Preservation of the Nixon Bridge would also save taxpayer funds by not incurring the cost of demolition. As you can see, destruction of the Nixon Bridge has everything to lose and nothing to gain, whereas its preservation offers everything to gain and nothing to lose. The County has required several items for consideration of preservation of the bridge. First, a new owner of the bridge, which would be the Manhattan Rotary Club. Second, liability insurance, funds for which have been acquired. Third, a demolition bond for future use if the bridge ultimately needs to be removed. The cost of this is unknown at this time and funds have not been acquired. This is being pursued. And fourth the possibility of legal issues with easements. Legal assistance, hopefully on a pro bono basis is being pursued. We are requesting your endorsement and support of preservation of this important part of Gallatin County and the Gallatin River history since once it is gone, it is gone forever. If you could assist in obtaining any of the needed requirements as noted above, it would be greatly appreciated. We would welcome the opportunity to meet with the Gallatin River Task Force board to discuss the preservation further as we feel you would be a great asset to achieving this end. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Bradley O'Grosky 4324 E. Graf St. Bozeman, MT

Gallatin River Task Force Board Job Description and Qualifications Duties: Board membership carries three duties that all individuals must commit to upholding. These are: The Duty of Care: Board members must exercise reasonable care and competency when making decisions regarding the organization. The Duty of Loyalty: Board members must avoid conflict of interest and make decisions based on the best interest of the organization, putting aside personal benefit. The Duty of Obedience: Board members must be faithful to the accomplishment of the organization s mission and its policies. Roles and Responsibilities of Board Members: In addition to the duties above, board members also have five distinct roles. These roles are: Leadership: Planning, creating the organization s culture, setting an example and promoting our organization to the community. Board member responsibilities include: Approving a mission-driven strategic plan. Exemplifying ethical and value-driven behavior. Setting an example to the community for volunteerism and financial giving. Promoting the organization to the community. Governance: Assuring that structures are in place for continuity in meeting the mission and delivering the strategic plan. Board member responsibilities include: By-laws. Policies of effective management and legal compliance. Committees with clear lines of authority and duties. An annual budget, operational plan, and fundraising plan. An annual executive director evaluation and compensation review system. Guidelines for effective board meetings. Stewardship: Board members are responsible for monitoring the financial health of the organization. Management: Board members are responsible for managing themselves in the following areas: Recruiting board members, selecting officers, and nominating committee members. Orientation of board members and officers. Holding each other accountable for following through on board commitments. Highly Engaged Volunteer: Supporting the implementation of the strategic, operational, and fundraising plan through volunteerism. Board members relinquish their board authority and become volunteers whenever they are helping to implement operational and/or fundraising plans.

Neither individual directors nor board committees, have the authority to direct the executive director or any other staff member to perform or not perform any specific task unless that authority is given directly by the board through written job descriptions. When acting as a highly engaged volunteer an individual is reporting to the staff person or volunteer that is given authority to lead the project or task. Qualifications: Passion for the cause. Time to devote to board duties, roles, and responsibilities as outlined above. Ability to attend board and planning meetings. Availability to contribute in other capacities as needed. Willingness to be a Team Member and dedicate the time necessary to become familiar with the purpose, operations, plans, and programs of the organization. Open mindedness and commitment to make the best decision for the whole organization. Ability to keep confidential information confidential. Disclosure of any and all conflict of interests

GRTF Organization Board Member Commitment As a member of the Gallatin River Task Force (GRTF) Board, I commit to serving a full four-year term, with no conflicts of interest, and with an understanding of the mission of the organization. I also understand and am able to commit to the following: v Attending most regularly scheduled board meetings, special meetings, and an annual retreat/training session. v Being a Team Member and dedicating the time necessary to become familiar with the purpose, operations, plans, and programs of the GRTF. v Approaching all Board issues with an open mind, prepared to make the best decision for the whole organization. v Exercising authority as a Board Member only when acting in a meeting with the full Board or as the Board delegates. v Keeping confidential information confidential. v Participating in the leadership of the GRTF by taking part in strategic and annual planning, supporting organizational culture by acting in accord with the GRTF s ethical standards, subscribing annually to the Friends of the Gallatin membership program, and promoting the mission, programs, and image of the GRTF in the community in a positive manner consistent with the GRTF s public relations policies. v Governing the GRTF by assuring that resources and structures are in place to accomplish the GRTF s goals and mission. This includes policies to guide operations, an effective committee structure, a realistic budget, and ongoing oversight of business through consistent attendance at Board and Committee meetings. v Assisting in securing financial resources for operations as outlined in the annual Fundraising Plan. v Volunteering, in areas of interest, to provide support to staff for achieving the annual operations and fundraising plan. As part of this commitment, I also expect certain standards will be met by the GRTF s leadership and staff. This includes being kept informed of important concerns of operations and having an opportunity for input at all Board Meetings. I pledge to meet these commitments. Signature Date
