1 August 2015 Dear Nursing 161 Online Students, Welcome to NURS 161 Enclosed are the course calendar and information regarding specific preparation prior to the beginning of the course. Please bring this letter with you to orientation. NURS 161 Orientation Sections Date Time Place DE01A Thursday September 3 8a-2p Twin Lights II (SLC 107) DE80A Thursday September 3 4p-10p Twin Lights II (SLC 107) The Nursing Department Homepage gives information about our Department: Resources, Success Strategies and how to contact NURS 161 faculty and Health Sciences office staff. You will be expected to take a math-test early in the semester on medication calculation for nurses. A grade of 90% is required to pass the math-test. Please review math content from NURS 160 and do the practice questions if math does not come easy to you. Work on completing the Clinical Laboratory Requirements: Physical Examination, Malpractice Insurance, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification, and a passport photograph and submit to the Nursing Office. Students can not attend clinical laboratory unless all these requirements are completed. You are required to use a Mobile Device in the clinical laboratory, iphone, ipod Touch, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile Smartphone, or Android. The software program Nursing Constellation Plus, powered by Skyscape includes three required textbooks (see p.6). NOTE: The free Skyscape application does not include the required resources. We will use CANVAS to announce important information about the course. Please check this site several times every week and use your BCC account when you communicate with faculty.

This exam will be given during the last week of the semester but not necessarily during scheduled class time. The examination dates and times will be announced by mid-semester. 3

On-Campus clinical day (OCC) for all clinical groups. Tuesday and Saturday 9 hr. groups will continue the same day, completing the 4.5 hr. activity in the computer room and the nursing laboratory. Day and evening clinical sections will complete the Geriatric Sim/DocuCare activity as per the schedule below, since the laboratories cannot accommodate the larger number of students in these sections.
