1 NEWS RELEASE April 2, 2012 Six HRM Students to Canada-Wide Science Fair 2012 On Friday, March 30, 2012 six students participating in the Halifax Sci-Tech Expo, were selected to attend the Canada-Wide Science Fair in Charlottetown. The Canada-Wide Science Fair will be held from May 12 to 19. Alexander Sapp (grade 10, Fountain Academy of the Sacred Heart), Julia Sarty (grade 9, Gorsebrook Junior High), Peter Issekutz (grade 9, Fountain Academy of the Sacred Heart), Terra Carling Lanteigne (grade 8, Bedford Academy), Briony Merritt (grade 11, Citadel High School) and Ellen Withers (grade 11, Citadel High School) will attend the national science fair and take part in a full week of activities including tours, displays, judging of their projects and the final awards ceremony in the Homburg Theatre at the Confederation Centre of the Arts. Close to 100 students participated in the Halifax Sci-Tech Expo. These students, in grades 7 to 12, displayed 74 science projects in a wide range of science and technology disciplines. In addition to the six grand prizes, close to forty percent of the participants received awards including Medals of Excellence, cash prizes totalling over $1200, and university scholarships worth a total of over $5000. The HSTE Association relies on the generous sponsorship of universities, businesses, and other organizations to provide the awards and scholarships and to send the six students to the national science fair. Major sponsors of HSTE 2012 were St. Mary s University, Encana Corporation, Natural Forces Technologies, Inc., Halifax Regional School Board and Dalhousie University.
