4 ATTACHMENT I 4 College Requirements 24 College Requirements 24 Maj Requirements 59 Maj Requirements 59 Total number of hours required f maj, min, 59 Total number of hours required f maj, min, 59 Total number of hours required f degree 120 Total number of hours required f degree Explanation of the Change: The current B policy: limits the number of transfer credits to 60 credits. Typically, RNs with a community juni college degree who apply to SDSU have earned credit hours of general education, suppt nursing course wk. Transfer students must still earn a minimum of 0 credit hours of Nursing specific courses from SDSU to graduate with the B.S. in Nursing. The 60 credit hour transfer limit places transfer students at a severe disadvantage to attend SDSU. The B policy limit requires transfer students to take repeat up to 20 credits of coursewk (the difference between the 60 credit limit policy the minimum 0 credits f the RN-B.S. in Nursing degree requirements). This is a huge barrier f SDSU admission, because it impedes a seamless transition to the B.S. in Nursing degree hinders marketability growth of the RN-B.S. in Nursing as a degree completion program. Because of this problem, SDSU requests consideration of waiving B Policy f RN students seeking degree completion f the B.S. at SDSU allowing juni, community college students transferring into SDSU s RN Upward Mobility? to transfer up to 90 credit hours toward their B.S. in Nursing completion. Graduates must meet regental, university, departmental requirements regardless of the number of credits involved. The Institute of Medicine (IOM) rept The Future of Nursing: Leading Change Advancing Health emphasized the need f a greater number of nurses to enter the wkfce with a baccalaureate degree to progress to this degree early in their career. The IOM rept along with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing called f a seamless progression from the Associate degree to the Bachel of Science in Nursing. Additionally, the IOM rept called f 80% of RNs to be educated at the BSN level by Many institutions are either preferentially hiring nurses at the BSN level requiring their RN employees without the BSN degree to obtain it within a set period of time. Currently, SDSU s B.S.-RN Upward Mobility option is not able to provide the seamless transition because of B Policy 2.5.1; therefe, impeding the marketability of the program.
