1 Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) Traditional Track Bainbridge Campus Educational Program The School of Nursing and Health Sciences at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College offers educational opportunities to qualified individuals who seek a career in nursing. A student pursues a planned course of study which will help him/her develop intellectually, emotionally, and socially in preparation for nursing practice as a registered nurse (RN). The nursing program provides curriculum which assists an individual in giving safe, effective nursing care for culturally diverse patients in a variety of health care settings. The registered nurse functions as a member of the healthcare team in promoting and restoring optimal wellness. In addition to classroom hours, the student will participate in clinical, skills and high-fidelity simulation, computer laboratory experiences. ABAC offers the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) on the Bainbridge and Tifton campuses. The Bainbridge campus offers acceptance into the Traditional ASN track in fall semester. See detailed information below. The Tifton campus offers acceptance into the Traditional ASN track in fall and spring semesters. For detailed information see the online information at Admission Requirements Admission to the program is academically competitive and will be based on academic qualifications. Achievement of the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the program. Minimum requirements for consideration for admission are as follows: 1. A student must be fully admitted to ABAC including: submission of all high school, GED, and/or college transcripts satisfactory completion of all learning support courses payment of all associated fees 2. A student must be 18 years of age at the time of admission into the nursing program. 3. A student must complete an application for the ASN program by the appropriate deadline date. 4. A student who has received two failures at another nursing program(s) will not be eligible for admission into ABAC s nursing program. Exceptions may occur if a student s failures are older than two years.

2 5. The first step in the admission process will be the evaluation of the student s overall grade point average (all attempts at all coursework). A student whose overall grade point average is 2.50 or higher will progress in the admission process and have a nursing grade point average calculated (all attempts at core courses applicable to the nursing program). A student whose overall and nursing grade point average is a 2.50 or higher will be considered on track for acceptance. A student whose overall and/or nursing grade point average is below a 2.50 will be denied acceptance to the program. Academic Renewal and/or grade forgiveness is not considered in the applicant s overall and nursing grade point average. 6. The School of Nursing and Health Sciences utilizes the HESI Admission Assessment (A2) as a tool to measure the readiness of prospective nursing students for the Traditional track. The HESI (A2) consists of five computerized content exams including: Math, Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary and General Knowledge, Anatomy and Physiology, and Critical Thinking. A student is not required to achieve a minimum score on these content exams. Although there is no minimum score, the exam s composite (average) scoring is utilized for admission ranking. HESI (A2) scores are valid for one year. The testing procedure, process for registering for the exam, and other details about the assessment are found on the School of Nursing and Health Sciences website at 7. When space limits the acceptance of all qualified applicants, those meeting the minimum requirements will be ranked according to an admission score as determined by the nursing grade point average and the HESI Admission Assessment (A2) composite score. The nursing grade point average and HESI composite score will count 50% each in determining the admission score. This ranking will then determine admission status. The higher the student s nursing grade point average and HESI scores, the higher the ranking for acceptance. 8. A student must achieve a minimum grade of a C in all core courses applicable to the nursing program. 9. Human Anatomy & Physiology I and II and the corresponding labs must have been completed within the five (5) years prior to initial admission into the nursing program. 10. Pharmacology for Health Professions must have been completed within one (1) year prior to initial admission into the nursing program. This course is not transferable from another institution and must be taken at ABAC. The course is offered in a classroom and hybrid/online setting. 11. A student who has achieved two failures in Human Anatomy & Physiology I and/or II with the corresponding labs and/or Pharmacology for Health Professions within a two-year time period will be ineligible for the program. Once the failed courses are more than two years old and have been successfully completed, the student may be considered for acceptance.

3 12. An applicant for the Traditional Track must meet all of the above admission requirements (#1-11) plus the following additional requirements to be considered for acceptance: A. Successful completion of the following pre-admission courses with a minimum grade of C or better: ENGL Composition I PSYC Introduction to Psychology PSYC Human Grown & Development MATH Quantitative Reasoning MATH College Algebra PNUR Pharmacology for Health Professions BIOL 2011/L - Human Anatomy & Physiology I with lab BIOL 2012/L - Human Anatomy & Physiology II with lab B. In addition to the overall grade point average, a minimum nursing grade point average of 2.50 evaluating all attempts of the pre-admission courses is required. All other core course requirements may be successfully completed along with the nursing course sequence. If a student has completed other required core courses in addition to the minimum, those courses will also be used to calculate the nursing admission grade point average. Grades achieved in each attempt will be used in the calculation of the nursing grade point average. It is highly recommended that all core course requirements be completed prior to the entering the final nursing semester. C. A student who has been denied acceptance due to limited program space or a low nursing and/or overall grade point average may have core courses for the bachelor s degree counted in the calculation of their nursing grade point average if all required program core courses have been completed. D. A student must successfully complete the Pharmacology Validation Examination after acceptance into the program and at the beginning of each semester while enrolled. Details are found on the School of Nursing and health sciences website at A student is required to complete certain requirements to attend clinical in health care agencies while enrolled in the program. These requirements are due upon acceptance and include: cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification via the American Heart Association, various immunizations/vaccines, a criminal background check, and drug screening. Denial to a clinical agency due to background check results and/or a positive drug screen will lead to dismissal from the program.

PHED Health and Wellness will not fulfil this requirement. A student may exempt the Physical Education requirement by possessing an associate degree or higher or with military service.
