1 LPN to ADN Articulation Associate in Applied Science Health Sciences Division Office: Curtice-Mott Complex CM2313 Phone: (810) This method of entry into the PN/ADN program at Mott Community College provides a means for the clinically experienced, academically qualified Licensed Practical Nurse to receive advanced standing in the Associate degree Nursing program. This will include the LPN who received his/her Certificate of Achievement/Practical Nursing at Mott Community College, or the LPN who completed a program of study at another school. Students in the PN/ADN program study biological, physical and behavioral sciences to prepare them for the nursing curriculum. The program prepares graduates to assist others in health maintenance and normal health processes as well as assisting with illness, injury or disability. The registered nurse is involved with care, treatment, counseling and health teaching. He/she also directs and supervises less skilled personnel in the performance of nursing activities. Demonstrate at least an 11th grade reading comprehension level on MCC Placement Test within the last 5 years or minimum score of 20 on the reading portion of the ACT within the last 5 years. 2. Demonstrate math proficiency by completing one of the following: Demonstrate MATH 160 eligibility by placement test within the last 5 years or Score 22 or better on the math portion of the ACT or score 560 or better on the math portion of the SAT within the last 5 years or Complete MATH 101 or higher level math course with a 2.0 or higher grade within the last 5 years or Demonstrate MATH 101 eligibility by Placement Test within the last 5 years (or by completing MATH 021 with a satisfactory grade) and by completing AHLT 135 with a 2.0 or higher grade. 3. MCC PN graduates: must have and maintain a cumulative MCC GPA of 2.0 or higher (would have had a 3.0 GPA on admission to the first clinical course in the PN program at MCC). All other PN graduates: must have and maintain a cumulative MCC GPA of 3.0 or higher prior to the start of the clinical sequence (NRSG 201/202). Applicants should consult with the Health Sciences Advisor or Nursing Program Coordinator to identify appropriate courses that can be used to establish a MCC GPA. 4. Current Michigan licensure to practice as an LPN. 5. Documented work experience as an LPN Totaling a minimum of one year in an acute care or long term care setting within the last two years Including responsibilities in medication administration (oral and parenteral) and patient care procedures. 6. All required pre- or co-requisites, allied health and nursing courses must be completed with a 2.0 or higher grade. All required science courses must be completed with a 3.0 or higher grade. 7. Non-clinical nursing and non-nursing pre- or co-requisite courses may not be attempted more than three (3) times (including "W" and audit grades). 8. Science courses must have been taken no longer than 5 years before entry into the first clinical nursing course. 9. Must have an acceptable criminal background check for the purpose of identifying any student who could not continue in the program due to a felony conviction (within the last 15 years) or misdemeanor conviction (within the last 1, 3, 5 or 10 years) in accordance with State statutes and laws. Students will be required to have additional checks prior to the start of the clinical

2 sequence of the program and at the request of specific clinical facilities. The cost of the criminal background check is the responsibility of the student. 10. Official transcripts of all transfer college work are required. 11. A Supplemental Application for Health Careers (available in the Health Sciences Division office or in the Advising Center) must be completed and submitted after all of the Eligibility List Requirements listed above have been completed with a grade posted. 5 NOTES A. Students who first started classes Fall 2002 or after must complete requirements in all categories. Students who enrolled prior to Fall 2002 may choose to fulfill these requirements or those in effect when they first enrolled. Those requirements may be found in previous catalogs or by checking with an advisor or counselor. B. A student may qualify to skip ENGL 101 and go directly to ENGL 102 by scoring 24 on the English part of the ACT, or 590 on verbal part of the SAT, or 115 on the placement test along with a reading level of grade 13 or higher and applying for and passing a special writing exam. C. Students may satisfy this requirement by passing the MCC computer literacy test. D. MCC LPN graduates who complete the first year of the program within the past two years and who work in an acute care or long term care setting will be exempt from completing the Nursing Transition courses (NURS 150 and NURS 151). E. Eighteen (18) credits will be awarded to students (who hold a current license to practice as an LPN in the State of Michigan) on an as needed basis to ensure the LPN to ADN Transition student will have adequate credits to meet graduation requirements as defined by the College. The granting of credits for licensure will not supersede any other graduation or general education requirements, including the requirement for the completion of at least 30 of the last 45 credits at MCC (requirement for transfer students - see College Catalog). F. Students may substitute ENGL 101 & English Composition I & II with ENGL 101 & Technical Writing Emphasis I & II. Graduation: Remember to file an application for graduation with the Registration & Cashier s Office as soon as you register for your final semester. Additional Information: 1. All first year courses (or equivalencies) and second year pre-requisites must be completed prior to acceptance into NURS 150 and NURS 151. Both the Transition course and the Transition Clinical Course must be completed prior to entry into the second year of the program. 2. Order for acceptance into advanced clinical nursing courses: a. Continued progression: in a class group; no interruption in the established sequence of courses. b. Non-academic readmit: withdrew passing or stopped out due to health, personal or other non-academic emergency; seeking readmission within 1 year of withdrawal or stop-out. c. 1+1 student: completed LPN level of the MCC program in the Fall of 1992 or after and has never progressed into the second year. This student has completed the first year of the 1+1 program and may re-enter within 1 year without having worked in nursing. d. MCC PN program graduate: LPN who completed the MCC PN program prior to Fall e. Academic readmit: did not successfully complete a clinical nursing course - withdrew not passing or final grade of <2.0; seeking readmission within 2 years of academic non-progression. f. LPN graduate from another program: completed a program of study at another nursing program. Conviction of a criminal offence (felony or misdemeanor) may make the graduate ineligible to take the licensure examination (NCLEX-RN). In addition, conviction may also make the student ineligible to be assigned to a clinical site, making program completion/graduation unattainable. In order to ensure that the student can participate in required clinical experiences, he/she must have an acceptable criminal background check. A criminal background check must be completed (at the student's expense) prior to the start of the clinical sequence (NURS 151). Additional checks may be required. In addition, some clinical agencies may require students to submit to drug screening procedures prior to the start of the clinical experience (any required drug screens are at the student's expense).
