DISCUSSION AGENDA New Courses/Programs 8.1 HLTH 5 Culture and Health New Course Proposal (with DE), 3.0 units Propose Discipline/FSA: Health; Nursing; Physical Education; Sociology America is becoming an increasing diverse society, and as people from various cultures join our communities they bring with them a set of beliefs about health, well-being, illness, and the treatment of illness. As these complementary medical practices are introduced into our society people who have principally practiced Western medicine begin exploring the use of these health practices. This class will explore the origins of complementary medicine practices as well as the belief systems that underlie their use. We currently have 3 HTLH courses that focus on personal health from a Western health model, this course will broaden the view of health taught as Shasta College. 8.2 REGN 35X Health and Illness III New Course Proposal (with DE), 3.5 units Corequisite: REGN 35PX Propose Discipline/FSA: Nursing semesters. Leadership content has been moved to the Preceptorship Course REGN 47X. After student feedback and faculty recommendations, some content areas have been added (Immunology, Neuro: Seizures, MS) to improve leveling and balance medical surgical content among all the semesters. Deactivate REGN REGN 35PX Professional Nursing Practicum III New Course Proposal, 2.5 units Corequisite: REGN 35X Propose Discipline/FSA: Nursing; Nursing Science/Clinical Practice semesters. Students will have more clinical hours in Med-Surg, when compared to previous 3rd semester. Some of the increased hours will be used to increase Simulation Hospital rotations. Feedback from students and faculty observations have indicated that students that have been increasingly limited in opportunities to perform nursing skills in acute care due to the competition for clinical sites from other schools and increasing regulatory mandates. Deactivate REGN REGN 45X Health and Illness IV New Course Proposal (with DE), 2.5 units Corequisites: REGN 45PX; REGN 46X; REGN 46PX; REGN 47X; REGN 47PX Propose Discipline/FSA: Nursing semesters. Mental Health/Community removed from this course to focus content area advanced Med-Surg and more effectively evaluate student learning outcomes. Deactivate REGN 33

This course provides the theory basis for Preceptorship. Students must meet established physical criteria to participate in the clinical area. Program Outcomes: 1. 90% of those students who are eligible to sit for the National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nursing (NCLEX-RN) will pass their examination within the first six months of the first attempt. 1. The successful graduate of the Shasta College Associate Degree Nursing Program will: 1) Achieve a passing score on the National Council of Licensure Examination for registered nurses (NCLEX RN). 2) Synthesize principles of holistic nursing practice to provide evidence based care to clients and their families throughout the lifespan. 3) Integrate principles of critical thinking and the nursing process to enhance care deliver, and protect clients and healthcare staff. 4) Apply evidence based concepts of nursing practice to provide care and comfort, promote health and wellness, manage health care alterations, and reduce risk potential across the healthcare continuum for clients and their families. 5) Incorporate the concepts of therapeutic communication and evidence based nursing care to promote and support the emotional, mental, and social well-being of clients, families and the community. Graduation Requirements: 1. Completion of the Humanities requirement. (Courses in Area 3 with * advised because they fulfill Humanities and Multicultural requirement, i.e. MUS 14). 2. Completion of competence in math (MATH 102 Inter. Algebra or MATH 110 Essential Math Math 14 Statistics are the advised courses for meeting this requirement). 3. Completion of the multi-cultural awareness requirement (course in Area 6 or Area 3 with *).
7 Curriculum Committee Agenda for 10/17/16 Page 7 4. Completion of multicultural/living skills requirement (NUTR 25 Nutrition advised as it is part of RN to BSN roadmap). 5. Completion of computer literacy. Due to the time commitments of the ADN program, it is strongly recommended to complete the graduation requirement before entering the program. It is recommended the student meet with a counselor for course planning and refer to the RN to BSN road maps to ensure that their additional course work (General Education and Electives) will also meet the requirements for an RN to BSN pathway. Requirements for Enrollment in the Program: Space in the program is limited. A new class is enrolled every semester. In order to be eligible for enrollment, students must satisfy the prerequisites listed below and file an enrollment packet with the Admissions Office during designated enrollment periods in each semester. All qualified applicants are placed on a waiting list and enrolled on a space available basis in the order of their accepted application date. For specific information, see the Application Process tab on the website or call the Division Office at ( ). Students must meet all of the following requirements for application: 1. Students filing enrollment packets must have a high school diploma or equivalent. 2. The Prerequisite Science courses listed below must be completed with a grade of C or higher in each course and a minimum science 2.5 GPA. 3. Prerequisites must be completed upon application. No in progress courses will be accepted.
