2 THE INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS (INDIA) ABOUT THE CONVENTION Globalization has brought in remarkable developments in maritime industry during the past three decades, bringing in new technologies and systems for the maritime transportation and international free-trade. Maritime industry has been the primary beneficiary due to the global demands of international trade. However, for the past three years, there is a dramatic melt-down in the world economy affecting the international trade and thus the maritime industry. The predictions for the future from various forecasting institutions are quite diverging and conflicting. To overcome this downward trend on global economy and maritime industry, we need the support of not only the Governments but also from all the stake-holders with positive long term and short term measures, without the international free-trade falling prey to protectionism. Under these circumstances, this Convention is expected to deal in the maritime industry as a whole, and shipping in particular, on matters pertaining to technology, financial systems, human resources, regulatory measures, environment and safety for overcoming the shrinkage of the global economy. ABOUT THE ORGANISERS was registered at Madras in 1920 but formally inaugurated in 1921 by Lord Chelmsford. It was granted the Royal Charter of Incorporation in 1935 by His Majesty The King George V of England. Its H Q is at Kolkata. It s main objective is to to promote and advance the science, practice and business of engineering in all its branches in India. It is now a unique professional body encompassing 15 engineering disciplines, with an overall Corporate membership of over 0.1 million & Non Corporate membership of 0.6 million. It is the pioneer body to introduce (from 1928), non-formal engineering education programme i.e. AMIE, recognized as equivalent to a degree in engineering. It operates through 27 State Centers, 76 Local Centers & 5 Overseas Chapters. The first professional body to represent India in several International Bodies, such as the WMC, WFEO, CEC, fib, FEISCA & established various Forum to create sharp focus in national priority areas. IEI Belapur Local Centre was registered in 1994 covering the areas of Navi Mumbai, Kalyan, Thane, Dombivli, Ulhasnagar, Mira Road and Raigad District & is vibrant with activities like Lectures, Seminars, Symposia etc to disseminate the Technical Knowledge to Engineers, Technocrats, Architects etc. Of a total of more than members, 2000 are Corporate Members. It has conference room, Hall, Guest House, Tech Library, Material Testing Lab & IRC Publication Sale counter THE INSTITUTE OF MARINE ENGINEERS (INDIA) was established in It is an Association of Marine Engineers and professionals associated with Marine Engineering. The objectives of the Institute are to maintain and promote high standards of this profession, internationally. To achieve these objectives, the Institute organizes lectures, seminars, & conventions through its branches / chapters in India and interacts with the Administration, in matters pertaining to shipping in general and marine engineering in particular. The Institute also conducts exit examinations for seafarers on behalf of the Directorate General of Shipping. The Institute with its headquarters in Mumbai has branches / chapters at Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, Kochi, Visakhapatnam, Pune, Goa, Bangalore, Navi Mumbai, Patna, Gujarat and Hyderabad. PARTICIPATION Participation is open to all and is particularly sought from individuals, companies and organizations associated with shipping. Personnel from ship owners, ship management companies, ship repair and ship building yards, exporters, ports and Port Trusts, machinery and equipment manufacturers, Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guards, Offshore industry and maritime education and training institutes will participate and present papers.

3 CALL FOR PAPERS Papers are being invited from experts from industry, researchers, faculty members and students on topics related to the following areas. Systems with Emphasis on Emission Reduction Diesel Engines & Steam Turbines - Future Trends for Propulsion and Power Generation Control, Communication, Guidance & Navigation systems Operational Effectiveness Alternative Fuels for Economy and Emissions Reduction - LNG as an Alternative Fuel New Technologies for Maritime Industry - Innovations and Cost Effectiveness Guidelines for submission of Papers: 1. Prospective Authors are requested to send the synopsis of the papers in about 300 words on or before 30/06/2012 to the Convener of the Convention (anil_rao@greatoffshore.com) 2. For accepted synopsis, confirmation will be conveyed to the Author by 15/07/ For confirmed synopsis, the Author should submit on or before 05/08/2012 to the Convener the Full Text of the Paper (with an Abstract of the Paper at the beginning, in no more than one paragraph of five to seven carefully developed sentences) for evaluation. 4. The Author will be informed by 20/08/2012 of the acceptance of the Full Text of the Paper for presentation at the Conference and/or publishing in the Souvenir. Only limited number of accepted papers will be selected for presentation at the Convention, based on the scrutiny by the Technical Committee of the Convention. However, all the accepted papers will be published in the Souvenir of the Convention. 5. The Technical Committee has the right to edit the Accepted Papers. At the time of acceptance of the Full Text of the Paper, The Technical Committee will convey to the Author their comments/changes on the Paper. 6. Synopsis and Full Text of Papers should be sent as soft copy by to the Convener in Microsoft Windows Word ( Compatibility) Mode. Figures, if any, should be neatly and clearly drawn with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. Authors should indicate the type of presentation aids required by them for the presentation of their papers at the Convention. Sponsor ` 40,000/- (3 delegates free and one page colour advertisement in the souvenir.) Co-Sponsor ` 30,000/-(2 delegates free and one page black and white advertisement in the souvenir). 6 26 th National Convention of Marine Engineers The Convenor, 26 th National Convention of Marine Engineers Paper Presentation With reference to the call for presentation of papers at the Convention, I, Mr/Ms in my individual capacity / on behalf of my Company would like to present a paper on the subject. The Co-Author(s) for the Paper is/are Mr/Ms and Mr/Ms. I understand that: 1. My Paper will be presented for the first time at this Convention and not presented elsewhere before. Synopsis and Full Text of Paper will be sent as soft copy by to you in Microsoft Windows Word ( Compatibility) Mode. Figures, if any, will be neatly and clearly drawn with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. 2. Each Paper will be allowed a maximum of 20 minutes for presentation with time allotted for questions/answers at the end of each Session. 3.
