I can t express how proud I am of each and every one of you. By the end of this year we will have provided the Air Force with 6 top quality new second lieutenants. We ve also sent 9 cadets to LEAD, 2 to Project Go internships, 2 for Operation Air Force and another to jump training at the Air Force Academy. Once again Det 845 has finished strong and has some of the top performers in the nation. Next year is yet another year of challenges. I m happy to welcome Tarleton State University (TSU) as the newest member of the Det 845 family. TCU and TSU have agreed to allow students from TSU to attend and participate in AFROTC at TCU. While there are going to be challenges implementing this new agreement it will be extremely beneficial to both institutions and the Air Force. I look to the cadet leadership this next year to ensure full integration of these top students from Tarleton. For those of you at LEAD and other summer programs, good luck. All others, enjoy your summer, stay safe and come back ready to push the Det to new heights. Lt Col Darin Gregg POC BASE VISIT At the very beginning of this semester, our Professional Officer Course (POC) cadets were given the chance to visit Tinker AFB. Tinker AFB is one of the largest military installations in the United States with more than seven thousand military personnel and fifteen thousand civilian employees. Cadets were able to tour multiple facilities in the Oklahoma Air Logistics Complex which is headquartered out of historic building 3001 which covers 62 acres and stretches over half a mile! These facilities are utilized for the repair of aircraft and throughout the tour cadets were able to see KC-135s, B-52s, and F-16s. They were even able to tour an AWACS while the crew gave some insight into their jobs in the Air Force. Accompanying them on the tour was an OSI agent who was able to answer questions and provide unique insight. One of the most exciting opportunities of this event was the chance for our cadets to mingle with Brigadier General Miller throughout their tours. He is the Deputy Commander of the Air Force Sustainment Center (AFSC) which is one of the 5 specialized centers assigned to the Air Force Material Command. The AFSC works to sustain weapon system readiness to generate airpower. Brigadier General Miller is also a Detachment 845 Alumnus and hosted our cadets for a dinner at his house where they had the chance to meet Major General (Select) Smith and Lieutenant General Levy. Our cadets were able to ask questions and gain valuable advice for their future careers. A special thank you to our Cadet Wing Commander, C/Col Stacia Sackett for organizing such an amazing event!

ROTC BASKETBALL NIGHT This semester cadets from both Army ROTC and Air Force ROTC were invited by the TCU basketball team and their coach Jamie Dixon to attend a game against Texas Tech University. This invitation was part of TCU Athletics campaign honoring military members throughout their sporting events that week. A few of our cadets had the opportunity to go down onto the court during breaks in the game and compete in a showdown against Army ROTC cadets. After a mad dash across the court in a sumo suit by Cadet Farnan, Cadet Linnear and Cadet Joens cranked out pushups and then showcased their basketball skills. During the next competition Cadets Nelson and Rivers partnered up for a wheelbarrow race and took a few shots of their own. After cheering on their teams, cadets got to mingle with each other and enjoy the rest of what turned out to be a riveting game against Texas Tech. Upon a TCU victory of it is safe to say that the loudest section of cheers was coming from our cadets! F-35 TOUR This spring, the wing was given the pleasure of touring the F-35 production line at United States Air Force Plant 4, operated by Lockheed Martin. Before the tour, the wing was briefed on the impact the F-35 would have on the future of airpower and even some of its improved technological capabilities. Cadets also heard a bit about the timeline of the F-35 s development as well as the aircraft s final destination, either to Air Force bases around the globe or the United States allies abroad. During the tour of the assembly line, cadets could see many steps in the process of the aircraft s construction and the difference in armaments and equipment for different models of the aircraft. Cadets were able to get a glimpse of the future of the USAF they are heading into while getting to appreciate some of the behind the scenes work on the civilian end of things as well. Our cadets left this visit feeling even more motivated to succeed. FIELD TRAINING EXERCISE (FTX) This spring s Field Training Exercise was a great success for our cadets. Upon arrival they were ushered off of the bus and launched into an exercise aimed at setting up camp. After the tents had been completed, cadets were issued their mock rifles that they would be responsible for throughout the weekend. After dinner and a retreat ceremony, cadets were off to bed and they arose bright and early the next morning for an intense physical training session. Later that day, General Military Course (GMC) cadets reviewed land operations such as: self-aid buddy care (SABC), room clearing procedures and combat formations under the instruction of our POC cadets. That afternoon, cadets were given the opportunity to apply their new skills in combat simulations with their marker rifles. To end the weekend, GMC cadets used their new skills and faced off against our POC cadets and our cadre in a paintball showdown!

FIELD LEADERSHIP EXERCISE (FLX) Among our many fantastic training opportunities for our 200s this semester was the FLX trip hosted by Texas A&M University. Our 200s, as well as a few 100s from Arnold Air Society, gathered early for the bus ride down to College Station. After arriving, cadets were split up among numerous flights with intermixed detachments. This gave them the opportunity to meet and work with cadets from other detachments much like they will be doing at Leadership Evaluation and Development (LEAD). After finding their respective flights for the day, cadets got to run through the obstacle course followed by the stamina course. They were then able to try numerous group leadership projects (GLPs) and learn the best ways to work with one another. After a lunch provided by Silver Wings members, cadets were able to regroup with their detachments to compete and show off what they had learned. Cadets had a great time, made tons of new friends, and learned a lot. COMMUNITY SERVICE EVENT On 1 April, cadets volunteered their time at Mission Arlington which is a food bank and community service organization that provides furniture, clothes and household essentials to those in need in the Arlington area. The organization not only provides free clothes and household items at their location just north of the University of Texas at Arlington s campus but also delivers larger items such as lightly used furniture directly to doorsteps. Over 20 volunteers spent the morning sorting dry goods and worked into the afternoon to give freezers a much needed cleaning. Special thanks to Cadet Dewalt and Cadet Trujillo for coordinating this event. Detachment 845 is looking forward to more great events! DINING OUT Det 845 had its annual Dining Out Ceremony on the 22nd of April. This year the event was held at the Dee J. Kelly Center which gave us the opportunity to have a formal and lovely ceremony. Every cadet had the opportunity to meet and interact with all of our guests which all had stories and advice about their life in the military. We are tremendously grateful to all those who attended the event. Among those guests were two former POWs, Fiske Hanley and John Yuill. We were also privileged to have with us retired General Gary North who was the keynote speaker for the evening. General North was absolutely fascinating and at times funny, capturing the attention of every single person in the room. He was truly inspiring and encouraging, and all of us that had the opportunity of listening to him speak are thankful for his presence that evening. On another note, we would also like to recognize those cadets that were presented with awards during the ceremony. The Fort Worth Airpower Foundation Leadership Excellence award is a monetary scholarship worth $500 given to a single cadet in each Aerospace Studies class. The recipients of this award were Cadets Vasconi, Velez, Piehler and Sackett. Also, Cadet Piehler was the recipient of the $1,000 scholarship by the Order of the Daedalians. The Tuskegee Airmen Red Tails Scholarship is a $2,500 scholarship, presented by 23d Flight Daedalians, and was awarded to Cadet Millsap. Aside from monetary awards, Cadets Millsap and Edwards were selected for the Cadet Flight Indoctrination Program. In addition to all of these, the Kenneth and Kaylee Caldwell leadership excellence award was given to Cadet Fredrickson, who brought home a shiny ceremonial sword and $5,000. Finally, our detachment was privileged to have not one but two Distinguished Graduates, Cadet Fredrickson and Cadet Preisser. Congratulations to all award recipients and to everyone that made this semester a successful one. Once again, we want to congratulate Cadet Kong as he was named Cadet Wing Commander for the 2017 Fall semester!

COMMISSIONING As always our commissioning ceremony this semester was bittersweet. As we watch cadets become commissioned officers, we are humbled and reminded of what it is we are working for here in our detachment. It is always hard to say goodbye to our cadets whom have done so much for our detachment in their time here. However, we are excited that they are about to set out on a journey as a part of the United States Air Force. Detachment 845 is proud to present our newest graduates: Alex Preisser, Gabrielle Hornilla, Duke Fredrickson, Nathan Clark, David LaBuda, and Duncan McFalls! Aim High! A MESSAGE FROM YOUR OUTBOUND CADET WING COMMANDER I would like to congratulate all of the Det 845 cadets on another successful semester! The accomplishments we made as a Wing are nothing short of remarkable. From the establishment of an official Honor Guard team to the 100% selection of AS200/250 cadets to attend LEAD this summer, the detachment as a whole benefitted from your hard work and dedication. This semester was all about growth, as a Wing and as individuals. I hope you take the lessons you learned over the past few months and build on them as you continue on your journey to be a leader in the Air Force. It has been an honor to serve as your Cadet Wing Commander and I hope you all have a fantastic summer! Go Frogs! -C/Col Stacia Sackett A MESSAGE FROM YOUR NEW CADET WING COMMANDER I am truly honored that I have been selected to be your Fall 2017 Cadet Wing Commander. For the past year, I have seen many of you grow and develop new leadership skills. Be proud of what you have accomplished. I am very proud and greatly humbled to be given the opportunity to lead such a fine group of men and women. Take advantage of this summer break to rest, spend much needed time with friends and family, and to prepare for what is to come. We are an elite unit. This upcoming semester will be challenging. However, when that challenge comes, what makes the difference is how you overcome. Our detachment has been provided all the resources it needs to maintain top quality training. My team and I will ensure that you are given the resources for success. I do not expect perfection, but I do expect 110% effort in everything you do. Our graduating senior cadets have forged a clear path for our success. Let us continue on that path for this upcoming semester and take our Wing to greater heights. We are all in this together, and together we will finish! -C/Col Kong

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT The Air Force ROTC program at TCU is consistently ranked among the top in the nation for superior academics and physical fitness. The level of training provided at Det 845 also makes cadets very competitive for state, regional and national awards. The program is this strong due to the support from TCU, alumni, staff and the community. Det 845 receives support from numerous organizations and individuals. We want to take time to recognize just a few of those that supported us over the last academic year.
