This special edition captures, in two weeks, the busy life and activities of AFA s Unit of the Year. April 6th - 17th was two weeks of four events and outreach efforts of the Paul Revere Chapter. A chapter, with over 900 members, we never stop carrying out the Air Force Association (AFA) mission and communicating with our members and our partners. 2 Air Force Association NECHV Clothing Drive Drop Off on April 6th On 6 April, members of the Air National Guard of Massachusetts delivered clothes to the New England Center for Homeless Veterans (NECHV) in downtown Boston. The clothes were collected over the past month in a clothing drive coordinated by the Paul Revere Chapter. The chapter responded to a 25 Jan catastrophic failure of the NECHV sewage system resulting in the loss of all the NECHV female clothing donations and a large amount if their men's clothing. The men and women of Hanscom AFB and their industry partners filled an Air National Guard 5 ton truck with donated clothing and delivered the donations to the center in downtown Boston. Lunch and Learn on April 11th Chapter President Paul Zauner and Membership Vice President Jenny Hopewell seized the moment on April 11th and held a lunch and learn session with 15 attendees. Zauner provided an overview of the AFA mission; Hopewell continued with the value of membership. The session was held at Hanscom Air Force Base. The eager audience was made-up of Air Force active duty members; Government civilians and defense contractors. 7 new members signed up! 3 Volume Special Edition 1, April 2014 Hanging out with UNH on April 14 April 14 th, chapter members Keith Taylor and Dave Burke traveled to the AFROTC Detachment 475 of the University of New Hampshire. At the invitation of Cadet Captains Heather Oliver and Connor Monahan, the Paul Revere Chapter provided an AFA overview at the monthly meeting of the detachment s Arnold Air Society. Twelve Arnold Air Society members attended and Taylor shared the many programs and events of the Paul Revere Chapter-#178, along with the contact information of the NH AFA Chapter - #249, Brig. Gen. Harrison R. Thyng Chapter, President Kevin Grady (jaws15@hotmail.com). Location: Zais Hall, 45 College Road, Durham, NH Arnold Air Society Arnold Air Society is a nonprofit, service organization, advocating the support of aerospace power. We are broken up from nationals into areas and then squadrons. At 146 ROTC Detachments across the nation there is an AAS squadron. These are broken into 11 different regions which are called Area's. There are national and area conventions where Page 3 business is discussed and most importantly where we vote on who will assume command next. For example two years ago, and this upcoming year, we are going to be part of Area staff meaning we will be in charge of the 11 other squadrons in our area. There is one squadron in the nation which is in charge of AAS on a national level. These are the cadets that attend the AFA conference and with whom you interact with most. We have what is called a Joint National Project which the entire nation focuses on. This is voted on each year at NATCON (the national convention). This is what our community service usually focuses on. Overall we are an organization of community service. We try to work with wounded warriors, POW/MIA organizations, STEM related events, etc. We also try and fundraise as much as possible to help our cadets get to the conventions and better the squadron.

4 Air Force Association Community Partners Appreciation Event on April 17th Community Partners Vice President, Irene Biddy planned and led this spring s Appreciation Event with over 50 attendees. Chapter Vice President Jeff Katz and Irene presented plaques to 4 of the 6 new Community Partners and 13 medallions to renewal Partners. In total, the chapter has 58 partners. *Photos by Jamie Thurber, Chapter Treasurer David Latina, Centech Irene Biddy, Oasis Systems, receiving the ESA During the evening, VP Katz made a special presentation of an AFA Exceptional Service Award (ESA) to Irene Biddy. Chapter partners and members, including 66th AFBG/CC, Col "J R" Weilacher (front table) enjoyed the event. Not pictured but also recognized at the event was a new Category I member, CACI, INC.
