POLICE DEPARTMENT NEWS Titusville Police assisted our community seniors to shelters before Hurricane Irma. In addition, several officers assisted citizens with boarding windows and securing their property. Officers remained on shift throughout the entire storm. Extra officers remained on duty as a part of an intense focused enforcement during Hurricane Irma s recovery period. Officers were highly visible throughout the city providing traffic control and additional proactive patrols especially in neighborhoods.

\ Titusville Police were at Imperial Estates 2017 OPEN HOUSE event. Public Affairs Officer Amy Matthews and School Resource Officer Mark Sypien helped fit children with bike safety helmets. Officer Brian Potters is working hard to improve international relations. He traded patches with an Italian Journalist who was very impressed with our city and the Titusville Police Department

Mims United Methodist Church hosted a Coffee with a Cop event for local law enforcement. Community members had the opportunity to speak with officers one on one about issues within their neighborhoods.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT NEWS Carrie Finch, Public Works Department and Adopt-a-Trail Coordinator, and Edyie McCall, Community Development Department, attended the Titusville Area Chamber of Commerce Business Expo held on August 30 th at the Great Outdoors Manor House. 9 AUDITOR NEWS PROCUREMENT CARD (PCARD) HOT TOPICS The City is exempt from paying sales tax. Please make sure vendors have the Consumers Certificate of Exemption on file. If you would like a copy, please contact the Finance Department or Internal Audit. Also, please note that all purchase cards are embossed with the City s Certificate Number (printed under your name). When using your purchase card at food establishments, please obtain an itemized receipt of your charges. The City s established purchase limit for goods is set at $1000 without requiring quotes. Purchases exceeding $1000 but under $2500 require three quotes. Purchase requirements are not to be split into multiple transactions to avoid the competitive bidding process.

FIRE DEPARTMENT NEWS On Thursday, August 31, Life Safety Specialist Kerri Lubeski was a guest speaker for Parrish Medical Center - The Children s Center preschool students. LSS Lubeski used the NFPA s Learn not to burn Preschool lesson - Stay Away From Hot Things. Twenty preschoolers were taught how to safely determine what household items are hot, warm, cool and cold. At the end of the lesson Sparky the hand puppet asked each of them what they learned in return for a good job hug! On Thursday, August 31, Life Safety Specialist Kerri Lubeski and TPD Public Affairs Coordinator Amy Matthews attended Imperial Estates Elementary School s Open House. LSS Lubeski and PAC Matthews worked together to educate, fit and distribute 40 bicycle helmets to the students in need of a helmet so they could ride safely to and from school. The helmets were graciously supplied by the Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization.

On Friday, August 25, Life Safety Specialist Kerri Lubeski attended the Brevard Public Schools Partners in Education Kick-Off Fair at the Space Coast Convention Center. PIE is an innovative way to engage businesses, community groups, civic and faith based organizations to partner with the schools and grow a relationship with the students and facility of the schools. Kerri showcased how Titusville Fire & Emergency Services could participate in school activities using fire prevention education. On Sunday, August 27, Life Safety Specialist Kerri Lubeski was invited by Girl Scout Troop 793 to attend the local Girl Scout Citrus Council Recruitment Fair at Saint Teresa s Parrish Hall. Local Troops and vendors were on hand engaging the girls and families with activities and sharing their Troop plans. With the support of the Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization supplying bicycle helmets to Titusville Fire & Emergency Services, Kerri was able to educate, fit and distribute 30 bicycle helmets to those in need.

The goal of Titusville Student Advisory Council Events Facebook page serves to be an outlet for youth that are seeking fun and special events and activities taking place in the community. Our project seeks to distract youth away from drugs and violence and empower them with positive activities and purpose. For questions or suggestions on upcoming events, call the City Clerk s Office and speak to Jolynn or Debbie at Please also feel welcome to LIKE and SHARE our page. UPCOMING MEETINGS The next regular City Council meetings will be held on Tuesdays, September 26, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. October 10, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. October 24, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. In addition, the City Council will hold routine meetings for Special Recognitions and Presentations on Tuesdays, September 26, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. October 24, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. The agendas for these meetings will be uploaded on the City website approximately five days prior to the meetings. 14 COMMUNITY RELATIONS-MEDIA NEWS During the three days of activation for Hurricane Irma, City Staff (including: Police Fire and Community Relations) used multiple social media accounts to post useful and timely information as it became available. Prior to hurricane Mathew we made some changes to the website structure that allowed us to quickly make the City website s become a landing page for Emergency Management. Therefore anyone who went to the city s home page saw information that was being posted in regards to Irma and public safety. The change still gave them the ability to quickly access the rest of the City website as needed. Below is an accounting of the activity that took place on Facebook during the storm along with sample of a few of the posts that were sent out. The one regarding boil water alerts was to help alleviate confusion due to boil water alerts from other cities. Generators Reminder: Never use a generator indoors. It creates deadly fumes that can result in injury or death. Inoperative Traffic Lights Important Safety Message: By state law, intersections become 4-way stops when signals are out. Use extreme caution at 4-way intersections with inoperative traffic lights. Just because you stop does not mean everyone else will. Water There is currently no boil water alert in Titusville. (Titusville Emergency Management, 9:10am.)
