1 BSA & Troop 237 Recharter Forms for 2016 Page 1 of 6 Part A BSA Annual Registration & Fees Please take advantage of the two registration nights to ask questions, turn in forms, and complete payment: Tuesdays, October 20 and October 27, Money, completed forms, and Youth Protection coverage through March 31, 2016 must be received by October 27, Afterward, your family will have to register directly with the district. Scout Account funds can be applied. Please confirm the scout account balance up front with our Troop Treasurer Liz Ostdiek at Questions: Committee Chair Rick Heiler at Each November, we re-charter with BSA and update your records. The registration is $24 per adult/scout. Troop dues are collected during registration to eliminate monthly collection, $40/yr. As voted by the Troop 237 Parent Committee: 1. To increase fundraising participation, each family is required to pre-purchase 10 pancake breakfast tickets ($50). $30 will be deposited into a scout account (so you get most of it back). Upon selling the tickets, the family recovers the $50. Additional tickets are available. Some scouts pay for summer camp with Christmas wreath and pancake breakfast ticket sales. 2. The troop functions by each family contributing to lead or assist an activity or hold a committee position. Last year several activities were canceled due to lack of adult volunteers to lead. This year, families will have a choice to volunteer or pay a $50 nonparticipation fee. Then, the unclaimed activities can be canceled early so scouts are not disappointed. If volunteering, please list the activity or position in part C for your family. 3. The Friends of Scouting contribution is collected with the annual registration, $30 for the first scout and $10 each additional scout in the same family. It costs the Council $125 per scout to support our troop. The amount is a charitable contribution, and may be deducted on your tax return. Misbehavior and egregious behavior will be subject to strict disciplinary action up to and including expulsion from the troop at any time. 1. A Scout shall be courteous and respectful of fellow Scouts, adult leaders and guests. Interruptions while a fellow Scout or adult leader is talking will not be tolerated. When the Scout sign has been given, all scouts and scouters will immediately adhere to the Scout sign, become quiet and should stay quiet while the speaker is talking. Should a scout wish to say something, he should raise his hand and wait until recognized. At no time is profanity, vulgar language or rude behavior allowed. 2. A Scout is reverent. Troop 237 meets at Mount Olive Lutheran Church and the Church has graciously allowed the Troop to use their facilities. The property of the Church should be respected as a house of worship. Running, shouting, skateboarding, skating, riding bicycles or horseplay of any kind will not be tolerated. At no time should any Scout disturb or play with materials in the classrooms or outside the Gym. Scouts should be inside the gym at all times unless there are troop activities that require outdoor space. The kitchen equipment should not be disturbed. At the end of the meeting the Scouts, led by the service patrol for that month, should help clean and arrange the gym before closing the meeting. 3. Scouts of higher ranks (Star and above) should serve as role models for younger scouts. Proper behavior, respect of others and property are important characteristic traits of all scouts. Older scouts are expected to maintain discipline in the troop at ALL times, especially when adult scouters are not present. 4. Behavior at camps and other scout activities All scouts are expected to live the Scout Oath and Scout Law at all times. No vulgar language will be allowed at any time. If a scout is physically or verbally abusive at the troop activities the scout will be subject to disciplinary action. Scouts should be gracious, be courteous and respect others at all times. Misbehavior and egregious behavior will be subject to strict disciplinary action up to and including expulsion from the troop. 5. Attendance at troop meetings is an expectation for all scouts, unless the scout has contacted the Scoutmaster and explained the reason for his absence. Scouts not attending the indoor and outdoor activities will not meet the Be Active in Your Troop advancement requirements. Scouts on the Patrol Leadership Council are required to attend the PLC meetings. Scouts not attending these meetings and not performing their assigned leadership duties will not be considered to have met the leadership requirements for Star, Life and Eagle Scout requirements. 6. All scouts and scouters are expected to arrive at each Scout event on-time and in proper uniform (either Class A or Class B). Class A Uniform: Class A scout shirt, scout pants or shorts, neckerchief, scout belt, scout socks. Class B Uniform: Any scout t-shirt, scout pants or shorts, scout belt, scout socks. The scoutmaster will announce when we move from Class A to Class B uniforms and vice-versa. The shirts should always be tucked into the pants or shorts. Scout pants or shorts should be worn at waist level. Normal street or athletic attire is not acceptable. If the scout has to come directly from an athletic or other activity, the scout should
6 BSA & Troop 237 Recharter Forms for 2016 Page 6 of 6 Be Prepared to change prior to attending our troop meeting. Close-toed shoes and green Scout socks are required. 7. Scouts participating in merit badges are normally given assignments to complete outside of the meeting time. These assignments should be completed as requested by the counselor. 8. Use of Cell phones at Scout meeting is discouraged unless it is an emergency. If it is not an emergency the cell phone should be turned on vibrate mode until after the meeting. If there is a need to use the cell phone, the Scout should step out of the meeting, go into the adjoining room or kitchen, finish the conversation and re-join the meeting. 9. No scout shall ever leave the meeting area unless expressly given permission by an adult leader (Scoutmaster and senior Assistant Scoutmasters). The Scout meeting area is in the church Gym. Scouts should not go outside the building during the meeting time unless accompanied by adult leaders (two deep leadership). Scouts who are not participating in a specific activity should remain quietly in the meeting room and seek out opportunities to help others. I have read and understood the Troop 237 code of conduct expected of me. I agree to abide by the code of conduct expected of Scouts. Scout 1 Signature Scout 2 Signature Scout 3 Signature Scout 4 Signature I, parent / guardian of the above mentioned boy scout belonging to Troop 237 have read and understood the code of conduct expected of Boy Scouts in Troop237.
