1 I< '.. Bowie High School NavalJiiiiior Reserve Offlcer'sTralnlng Annapolis Road.--, Bowie, Maryland (301) II Corps Unit CADET AGREEMENT From: To: Senior Naval Science Instructor All Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) Cadets Encl: (1) Cadet Agreement signature page - _.- (2) Grooming standards excerpts from the Cadet Field Manual Welcome aboard! This letter is to provide you an~ your parents with essential information, Please read it carefully and discuss it with your parents... '.. -.,., I am very pleased of your decision to be a member or'the NJROTC. You have chosen to accept responsibilities and adhere to unit rules and regulations. As a Cadet you will be the recipient of the many benefits the program offers. NJROTC teaches leadership and personal development. It not only helps you to learn to set :goals but how to acbieve them. The program stresses cievelopment of academic achievement, physical fitness, good habits, teamwork, self-discipline, personal responsibility, self-reliance, and involvement in community service programs. The Unit will provide you as. many opportunities to travel on field trips as possible without interfering with other academic courses. All Cadets are encouraged to participate in one or more of our Unit activities - Drill Team, Color Guard, Academic, Orienteering or Athletics. These teams compete throughout the year against other IROTC 'units locally and nationally.. We intend to help you become a better student, as. well as a mu~h better leader. The NJROTC curriculum is well rounded. To fully participate, the NJROTC Program requires that the instructional staff maintain. current forms on. each one of our cadets. The mandatory forms, which must be completed, are listed below:.. "~ a. Cadet Data Input Sheet b. Standard Release Form c. Health Risk Screening Questionnaire d. A completed sport's physical signed by a licensed medical professional e. Cadet uniform custody. form f. Cadet agreement (enclosure (1) to this letter). g. Grading policy acknowledgement (enclosure (1) to the grading policy notice) Your NJROTC grade will be based not only on academic achievement but will include behavior, military appearance and bearing, participation, drill, and aptitude. There will be frequent opportunities for you to find out how well you are doing. You should expect periodic quizzes and exams and you will be required to. track all of all your academic assignments and uniform inspection grades in your dedicated NIROTC Cadet Notebook. The Navy requires each Cadet to wear the NIROTC uniform once a week, for the. entire school day, as an essential. part of the program. Consequently, there are more stringent rules for Cadets regarding hair length and size, jewelry, and personal grooming. At first we'll help you wear your uniform with pride, but then you'll start to feel the pride inside yourself that makes you to want to stand tall and look sharp. Weekly personal inspection will be conducted to ensure the uniform is being worn properly and that the required grooming standards are being met Your inspection grades will be a significant part of your Naval Science grade. Cadets must make-up missed uniform inspection grades for EXCUSED absences during their next regularly scheduled NJROTC Class. Failure to wear the uniform 3 times or more during a grading period will result in a failing grade for the grading period. Continuous failure to comply with grooming standards may result in course failure. You and your parents should know that all uniforms are issued at no cost to you. The uniform ite~ issued are either new or are have been professionally laundered. Essential alterations, if pre-approved by the Senior Naval Science Instructor or one of the other instructors, will be reimbursable. After the initial issue of uniforms, each Cadet is Cadet Contraet -SY09-10.doo

2 responsible for the maintenance of-hi-s/her uniform, to include laundry, dry cleaning and minor repairs, as needed, All uniform items remain the property of the U.S. Government and are entrusted to the custody and care of the individual Cadet and his/her parents' or guardians. We will exchange items which wear out or which you outgrow at no cost. Uniform items lost, destroyed through carelessness or misuse, must be replaced at your expense. Uniform items turned in soiled will be laundered or dry-cleaned at your expense. NJROTC Uniforms may be worn only when prescribed, Unauthorized wearing of the uniform, or wearing individual articles of the uniform, will be cause for disciplinary action. The wearing of civilian outer-garments including overcoats is not authorized with the uniform.., Haircut and grooming requirements are more stringent for NJROTC Cadets. Complete details are contained in the NJROTC Cadet Field Manual. The key points of these standards are attached to this letter as enclosure (2). Your Field Manual provides pictures and detailed instructions on wearing the uniform correctly, haircuts, and grooming standards that all cadets are required to meet. - WHETHER m UNIFORM OR NbT... In addition to normal NJROTC classes all Cadets are required to attend the Unit's Annual Inspection and the annual Change of Command ceremony. Each event usually lasts less than three hours. Failure to attend these two events will result in a lowered grade.. The following are not permitted in the NJROTC classrooms at any time or outside. during drill periods: a. Chewing gum b. Sleeping or resting on desk or table c. Personal radios, CD players, or tape players d. Ungentlemanly or unladylike conduct of any kind. including profane language, throwing objects, etc. e. Skylarking (Navy term for horseplay) f. Sitting on desks or tables g. Placing feet on seat or on desks h. Visibly displayed cellular telephones or pagers Learn the rules, and conduct yourself accordingly; these are the keys to success - both in school and as a young adult. We want all Cadets to succeed!
