2 Tonga Alumni Event In Tonga, prior to a National Symposium on Women, Peace and Security, the Tonga DKI APCSS Alumni Association, led by Brigadier General Honorable Lord Fielakepa EC01-2 and CCM12-1, Chief of His Majesty s Armed Forces, hosted an alumni event. Dr. Saira Yamin represented DKI APCSS at the symposium and the alumni event. Alumni Awards and Recognition: Latheef Saleem Rasheed Khaleel Waheed Amir David Hale, U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan and U.S. Brigadier General Paul Bauman honored several of our alumni in Pakistan with DKI APCSS Alumni Achievement awards for their outstanding contributions to peace and security. Congratulations to a cohort of six alumni from Maldives who completed work on a project they began at a DKI APCSS security sector development workshop in Brigadier General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef, ASC15-1, led the team in their work to create and publish the Maldives National Strategy on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism. Other alumni members of SSD16-1 included Lieutenant Colonel Mohamed Saleem, Hamdhoon Rasheed, CSRT14-1, Hassan Khaleel, Abdulla Waheed and Major Hassan Amir. Pakistan Awards

4 News Stories from Alumni: Major General (Ret) A N M Muniruzzaman (Bangladesh), SEC06-2, led a delegation to attend the 5 th Yunnan Bangladesh Cooperation Dialogue in Kunming, China. The Muniruzzaman dialogue focused on opportunities for bilateral cooperation between Bangladesh and China. You may review more details at the following website. Sisak Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Thomas Sisak (U.S.), APOC10-2, earned a PhD in Strategic Studies. Colonel Mohemmad Amin (Afghanistan), TSC12-2 and ASC13-1, visited the Vienna International Center to participate in the second technical meeting on radiation detection instruments for nuclear security. Modsin Md Modsin (Bangladesh), CCM17-1, co-authored an article with Brigadier General Azazul Chowdhury. The article is entitled, Advancing Civil-Military Coordination in Bangladesh. During the 2018 ISDR-Asia Partnering Forum in Mongolia, four CCM18-1 classmates met and shared DKI APCSS memories. 8 DKI APCSS Courses: On May 2, 2018, 107 Fellows from over 30 countries graduated from the Advanced Security Cooperation course ASC18-1. For more details, click here. 9 DKI APCSS Workshops: In Thailand DKI APCSS hosted the fourth multilateral workshop in the Building Maritime Shared Awareness in Southeast Asia series to advance regional efforts to build a Recognized Maritime Picture (RMP) for Southeast Asia. Building on discussions begun in 2015, this iteration in the series developed recommendations for information sharing protocols and tools to support information sharing agreement between ASEAN member states. 10 DKI APCSS Workshops: Tonga WPS Symposium Participants Dr. Saira Yamin joined the Nevada National Guard in Tonga from May 7-11 to support a National Symposium on Women, Peace and Security. The event, hosted by His Majesty s Armed Forces in Tonga, was a successful whole-of-government and society dialogue on the value of a National Action Plan (NAP) on Women, Peace and Security for the island nation. Dr. Yamin gave presentations on the Women, Peace and Security global agenda and the Asia-Pacific security environment from a gendered lens. The program concluded with recommendations for an action-plan to design, develop, and implement a NAP through enhanced civil-military cooperation, awareness raising initiatives, consultations with civil society, budgeting and review mechanisms. The Symposium proposed that the theme of their National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security will be Walking Together, Deciding Together and Acting Together.
