5 MOFAID COOPERATION AND RESEARCH PROGRAMS French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development (MOFAID) Supports Research Partnerships with ASEAN countries through : 1) French research centers and joint labs, bringing together French and ASEAN researchers, training ASEAN PhD students; 2) Regional Programmes funding collaborative Research Projects ( ICT-Asia and Bio-Asia); 3) Scholarships programs to foster scientific collaborations and PhD training in France; 4) Funding of European initiatives and projects (see Euraxcess!) 5

8 REGIONAL PROGRAMS - ICT-ASIA (STIC-ASIE) ICT ASIA IS: A Scientific network : Bringing together France and Asia research institutions and scientists in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) A Grant Program : Yearly Call for Projects EUR per year, awards to 5 to 6 projects. Funds projects of research teams involving at least 1 researcher from France, 1 researcher from an ASEAN country and 1 researcher from another Asian country ( ASEAN or other). Since 2004, funded 56 projects and 340 scientists 8

Funds projects of research teams involving at least 1 researcher from France, 1 researcher from an ASEAN country and 1 researcher from another Asian country (ASEAN or other). Since 2008, funded 33 projects and 198 scientists 12

21 «PROGRAMMES HUBERT CURIEN (PHC)» Why and how? - Incentive to launch new collaborations between a research team in France and a research team in a partner country - Funds researchers mobility, fostering participation of PhD students and young fellows to the exchanges - Co-financing: MOFAID and Ministries of Research and Higher Education of partners countries; equal funding from France and from the partner country - Yearly call for proposals, double submission and review of the proposals. Not available yet in all ASEAN countries (depending on budget and policy of the National Ministry for Research and Education) 21
