Honoring AEIS Veterans Jason Federico, Sergeant, US Army 1997-2000 55B (ammunition specialist), we hand out everything but nuclear weapons.

I was stationed in Fort Benning, GA, Johnston Atoll, and Fort Bragg, NC. Johnston Atoll has since been shut down and completely leveled...we were there to eradicate the US stock pile of chemical weapons. My time in service led to many things and there is no doubt in my mind that I would not be where I am today without the lessons learned from my time in the US ARMY. Within the first month, I met my future husband. We got married a year and a half later and I requested an extension twice to stay on Okinawa. Well, the rest is history. My eighteen months has turned into thirty-eight years. Lynn Duplon, US Navy August My first duty station was at Cubi Point in the Philippines. My second duty station was at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, in Washington, D.C. I trained as Medical Photographer, and responded to World Wide Mass Casualties in the United States and Overseas. I assisted with the documented autopsies throughout my four years of active duty. In my spare time I attended college, and finished my teaching degree. The military was my stepping stone into DoDDS. Here I am...with 26 years behind me as DoDDS Teacher. :) The best is yet to come!

She is responsible for the education and welfare of approximately 20 students annually. Sergeant Bender entered the Air Force in September of 1986 from her home in St Paul, Minnesota.

Bender is a 3rd Grade General Education Teacher for Amelia Earhart Intermediate School, Department of Defense Education Activity, Kadena Air Base, Japan. She is responsible for the education and welfare of approximately 20 students annually. Sergeant Bender entered the Air Force in September of 1986 from her home in St Paul, Minnesota. Her career includes diverse assignments as a Communication and Navigation Systems Craftsman, performer for Tops in Blue, Field Training Detachment Instructor, Specialist Section Chief, Flightline Expediter, and KC-135 Production Superintendent. Michael Scarborough, US Navy I am a First Gulf War veteran of the US Navy ( ). I served 7 years active service and 1 year inactive reserve for a total of 8 years. 9 Art News!! The 4 th and 5 th graders are finishing up the Great Wave inspired artwork with the help of visiting artist Mr. Fred King. 3 rd Grade did some awesome pumpkin still life pieces inspired by Paul Cezanne Coming up next is weaving and clay projects. If you would like to come in and help with either please do. My door is always open and help is always welcomed. In-School Field Trip with Artist in Residence Jorge Itokazu When: November 28 th - Dec. 4 th (during the regular art class) Where: Art classroom at AEIS What: Each student will create a unique pottery piece under the instruction of Jorge Itokazu. PTO Donation of 300 yen (or $3) per student to defray the extra cost of materials (Please send this donation to the PTO, but please note that a donation is not required for your child to participate, the donation can be placed in an envelope and dropped to the office to be placed in the PTO box.) Jorge Itokazu is a renowned local potter with over 30 years of experience, including regular pottery classes at Kadena Arts and Crafts as well as 17 years teaching DoDEA students. PTO sponsors this special opportunity for our students to make their own pottery pieces that reflect the Okinawan culture. After firing and glazing, these pieces will be returned to the students.
