5 HQ Air University Education Logistics & Communications The ATN Program Management Office is a branch of HQ AU/A4/6, and is a separate operating location at Wright- Patterson AFB, Ohio OUR MISSION: to promote, manage, and deliver instructional broadcasting for the Air Force s distance learning programs and other DOD users of ITV

7 Air Technology Network PMO OUR MAIN PURPOSES: To direct and manage the operation of the Air Force s ITV satellite network and audioconferencing system, the Air Technology Network To manage the Defense Education & Training Network, a joint use of ITV facilities within DOD.

8 The Air Force Standard AFI : Defines ATN is the AF Standard for VTT AFI , : HQ AU/A4/6 executive agent for the ATN PMO AFI , : When ITV is used for broadcasts or large-file transfer, ATN PMO procedures are to be followed.

11 Air Technology Network PMO ATN began at Air Force Institute of Technology, WrightPatt AFB Oct 91 under newly created AFIT/XPT, which created the AFIT Center for Distance Education (CDE) AFIT CDE moved to AFIT/LS in Oct 92 Established ATN PMO under AFIT CDE Feb 1996 PMO under OpCon of AF Distance Learning Office (forerunner of AF Institute for ADL) Realigned under AFIADL 1 Feb 00 Officially became AFIADL OL-A on 2 Jul 01 Began consolidated DOD ITV operations 1 Feb 08, aka Defense Education & Training Network (DETN) PMO AFIADL decommissioned, realigned under HQ AU/A4/6O 24 Apr 08 Renamed HQ Air University OL-A

Director: Acts as single POC for all ATN & DETN issues Acts as AFO & ARO for DETN Establishes AF policy for use of ATN Directs the financial resources for ATN Coordinates billing with AETC/FM, AFNIC, DITCO Through GATES, cooperates with various federal agencies to interface with other ITV networks Coordinates with DISA & GSA on contract requirements Provides training for downlink site monitors Researches & examines new DL technology

Chief Engineer Ensures proper design and installation of uplink facilities & Broadcast Centers Manages installation of uplinks and downlinks Acts as ARO & AFO for DETN Acts as coordinator for best current practices, ensuring standardization, quality, safety, and efficiency in ATN technical operations Establishes sustainment & upgrade plan Submits purchasing documents Researches & examines new broadcast technology

Network Operations Center Engineer Ensures proper operation of uplink facility Works with Chief Engineer to apply best current practices, standardization, quality, safety, and efficiency in ATN technical operations Supports Chief of Operations in daily operations Maintains contact with downlinks to monitor status Maintains physical plant
