3 Mohawk Valley Community College A & P Prep Course Location of course: 116 Langley Road Rome, NY Show at 0800 on the start day. Bring two copies of completed FAA Form and Memorandum of Experience letter (MOE). Also bring anything you desire for note taking/book marking (i.e. pens/pencils, notebooks, highlighters, sticky tabs, post it notes). You will be supplied all the publications required for the class on the first day. Cost of the books is $165. It s a lot of publications so I recommend bringing a large backpack. The course is 10 days (two weeks). Class normally goes from 0800 to 1630 Monday through Friday. The examination consists of three written tests, which will be performed at the laser lab on the airfield, and an oral & practical (O&P) examinations in the General, Airframe, and Powerplant subject areas. Written tests are multiple choice and are performed on a computer. The three written test are: General, Airframe, and Powerplant. There are three ways of studying for the test: 1. Smart phone app s available by ASA, 2. Computer prepware software, and 3. Study books received on day 1 of the course. Computer prepware software for studying and taking practice test is available during the course. You must satisfactorily pass all written test prior to doing the O&P. Passing score is 70%. I recommend you begin studying one of the subjects and be ready to take the test prior to attending the first day of the course. This will provide you ample time to complete the other two tests during the two week course. I also recommend you schedule your O&P sooner rather than later. It s a high intensity course, and you will quickly forget the practical tasks that you learn. Things most recently learned are best remembered. The further a student is removed time wise from a new fact or understanding, the more difficult it is to remember. The O&P will be performed with an FAA Designated Maintenance Examiner (DME). During the two week course, the instructors will concentrate on the practical tests, you will be expected to use the study guides to lean the oral questions. The O&P s usually are completed in 6-8 hours and must be scheduled with the DME. During the course, three personnel will stop by the classroom to assist with filling out the rest of the course documentation. The three personnel are: 1. VA rep to assist with filling out the GI Bill paperwork, 2. MVCC rep to enroll you as a student at MVCC, and 3. FAA rep to verify and sign your FAA Form forms. The GI Bill will cover the cost of the course. If you use the GI Bill, you will receive $1,000 book stipend that will be deposited into your desired bank account. If you elect to pay for the course out of pocket, the cost of the course is $2, and $165 for books. Page 3 of 8

4 If you plan on using VA Educational Benefits to pay for classes, please apply at minimum 1 month and 15 days prior to attending the course. See Instructions below: 1. Applying for VA Educational Benefits: a. b. Follow the instructions provided by the website i. If you are requesting to use CH33 (Post 9/11 G.I. Bill) benefits, be sure the effective date is PRIOR to the start date of your class. Failure to do so will result in the VA prorating payment for the class. ii. If you are requesting to use CH 33 (Post 9/11 G.I. Bill) benefits, be sure to revoke your eligibility for any other VA Educational Benefit in the application. Failure to do so will result in a rejected application. c. Submit your application for processing. d. Print your confirmation page for your records. e. In about 4-6 weeks you will receive a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) in the mail (to the address you provided on the application) from the VA. f. Bring the Certificate of Eligibility to the Veteran Education Coordinator. i. If you are NOT Active Duty, bring a copy of your DD214 Member 4 or Service 2 copy. g. Contact Veterans Education Services for assistance at Bring your COE and DD214 Member 4 or Service 2 copy (if applicable) with you when you attend the class as proof your course will be funded by the VA. The confirmation page is NOT proof of funding and you ll have to provide MVCC with another source of funding in the unforeseen chance your balance is not covered by the VA. VA Benefits to include CH30 (Montgomery G.I. Bill- Active Duty), CH 35 (Dependents Educational Assistance), CH 1606 (Montgomery G.I. Bill- Selected Reserve) are stipends paid directly to the student, and payment for the class must be made up front. Those under CH31 (Vocational Rehab) will need to meet with their Case Manager to get approval for the class. The Case Manager must provide the Veteran Education Coordinator with a VA Form for the class to be paid for. Class runs once per month and starts on the first full 2 weeks of each month that do not contain a holiday. A minimum of three students are required to run each months class.
