12 NAVAL ELECTRONIC WARFARE SYSTEM SUBSURFACE (NEWS SS) DELIVERABLE: To provide ES and ELINT capabilities the Victoria-class submarines out to The ES and ELINT capabilities of the Victoria-class submarines require an urgent capability upgrade to enable the submarines to operate effectively and covertly in modern threat environments. REQUIREMENT CONSIDERATIONS: The current ES/ELINT system in the Victoria-class submarine, Sea Search 2, has reached operational and materiel obsolescence. It is no longer supportable and requires replacement. To rectify materiel obsolescence, the Harris ES-3601U ES/ELINT system is replacing the Sea Search 2 under a national procurement (NP) project. Thus the NEWS-SS project is designed to address the gap from the NP project to a modern system to meet the increasingly complex EW needs of the Victoria-class beyond PROJECT STATUS: In Options Analysis ü Strategic Context Document Oct 2016 Business Case Analysis 2018 Implementation 2020 Contract Award 2021 IOC 2022/23 Final Delivery 2026/2027 CONTACT INFORMATION: NEWS-SS Project Director LCdr Ernest MacNeil DNR 4-4 Ernest.macneil@forces.gc.ca FUNDING: Total Project Value - $30 million 12
