CALLING NOTICE FOR THE FUTURES MEDICINE, HEALTH AND HUMAN DOMAIN CONFERENCEIWORKSHOP, PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC, OCTOBER 2017 DATE: June 2017 REFERENCE: A. COMEDS(CHAIR)L(2016) Minutes of the 45th CaMEOS plenary, dated 24 September The Futures Medicine, Health and Human Domain Conference/Workshop is a new event which aims to develop key activities of common interest for ACT, CaMEOS and HFM (concept & experimentation, research and/or operational activities). This event, based on the future operating environment of NATO, is derived from a request from the CaMEOS, during the 45th CaMEOS Plenary, for more coordination on future transformation within medical support. It will support the development of a roadmap for a collaborative approach to medicine and health care research and development activities that are common to the clinical, operational and research communities. 2. The required output of this event will be a prioritized and documented list of research and key activities. This prioritized and documented list will be proposed for endorsement during the 48th Plenary, after staffing at the preceding CaMEOS Steering Group. 3. The attendance of the following NATO organisations and members is strongly recommended for the first iteration of this event (no industry/civilian attendance is planned for this first event): a. Representatives from HFM research specialists. b. Representatives from the operational environments (ideally have representation from the Army, Air Force, Navy and Special Forces) including health care Generalist and specialist communities. c. SMEs from the CaMEOS WG and panels, and from the MiIMed CaE. d. Representatives from ACT and ACO. e. The national senior leadership for medical research. f. Other STO/panels to initiate cross-panel common areas of interest. 4. The programme committee comprises: Supreme Allied Commander, Transformation Norfolk, Virginia United States of America Science and Technology Organization Collaboration Support Office Neuilly sur Seine Cedex, BP25, France 1

2 a. ACT Medical Branch Head (Lead for the programme committee) and Medical Branch staff officer ex-officio member at HFM STO. b. COMEOS Liaison Office. c. HMP and HSB chair. d. HFM panel chair and the HFM panel executive office. e. Host Nation representative (Czech Republic). 5. Three pre-determined areas of interest will be studied during the workshop. Each area addresses a list of topics, which are common areas of interest for ACT, COMEOS and HFM. Area 4 will be dedicated to innovative and out-of-the-box thinking. Based on the attendance, the programme committee will arrange four fixed groups so that each group will contribute to each area. a. Area 1: Advanced preparation and training. (1) Medical Human Factors advances. (2) New or fast technologies of training (3D Virtual reality, etc.). (3) Modelling and simulation to improve medical readiness. (4) Interactive and realistic mannequins. (5) How to prepare the next future threat - pandemics. (6) Personalized/precision medicine. (7) Health readiness. b. Area 2: Human resilience and survivability. (1) Human resilience: social, cultural and health aspects. (2) Blood products. (3) Complexities of patient transportation without air superiority and interest for semi or full autonomous systems. (4) Technology to improve health outcomes with a smaller logistical footprint (additive manufacturing). (5) Advances in trauma care and wound stasis systems. (6) Robotics in health care. (7) Genomic testing in a briefcase. (8) Human enhancement. c. Area 3: Information management and decision support. (1) Human/computer interface advances for mitigation of information overload. 2

3 (2) Big data to drive decisions in health care. (3) Advances in telemedicine to support dispersed or isolated personnel. (4) Health sensors of interest. (5) Telehealth: remote monitoring to help project health care to our patients. (6) Human machine teaming. d. Area 4: Innovative thinking (out of the box or 'Blue-Skies' thinking). The Futures Medicine, Health and Human Domain Conference/Workshop agenda is being developed with the support of the programme committee and will be released before the summer. The event will start on Wednesday 11 th of October 01 :OOPM and will end on Friday 13th of October at midday. The afternoon session on the first day will set the scene with keynote speakers for the future NATO environment, the future of health care within military operations, and innovative thinking and problem solving. Thursday will be dedicated to the workshop areas, and Friday to the presentation of the findings and the way ahead. 6.
