1 The MEDIC Dispatch News From The Front Line April 15, 2013 Performance Pay Update Mecklenburg EMS Agency Dates to Remember: April 17 th Scope of Practice Testing April 18 th Training April 19 th Scope of Practice Testing This Week: PALS Expirations 2 Congratulations! 3 EMS Week 2013 Gift Options March Commendations 4 5 Patient Priase 6 April Training Schedule 7 8 Medic Calendar 8 Results of the new Performance Pay Tracking period have been calculated. GREAT NEWS! All areas are tracking well including patient satisfaction scores! Let s keep up the OUTSTANDING WORK by encouraging all employees to be mindful of the following key points: The group performance pay program is heavily tied to overall patient satisfaction. Teamwork Between EMS Personnel is the #1 driver of overall patient satisfaction; if it takes a big hit, overall patient satisfaction isn t going to be far behind. Regardless of the priority level, a patient still judges the level of service they receive. Treat your partner and other first responders on scene with the same level of respect and teamwork it does matter. Be mindful of what you say and how you react to everyone in the room. Each patient may very well end up on the other end of one of our patient satisfaction surveys. Remember to stay focused and provide excellent patient care on every call. It makes a HUGE difference! There are still many more patient satisfaction scores to be conducted. Your actions can positively or negatively influence the final results of this new tracking period. Thank you everyone for your hard work and let s continue to stay focused! 1

3 Kronos Deactivation Scope of Practice Kronos has been deactivated. All timekeeping records will now be processed through epro. Managers and Supervisors are to reconcile discrepancies and approve all employee timecards through epro. It is strongly suggested that supervisors and managers clear any outstanding discrepancies for the week and approve time cards accordingly as week one of the current pay period is now complete. Please contact a member of the Scheduling Department if you require any data from KRONOS. All records within KRONOS will be retained as required by law. Medical Services will dedicate four days out of every month for Scope of Practice testing. Scope of Practice testing should be completed within 90-days from your expiration date in order to meet the North Carolina Office of EMS standards. Completing the Scope of Practice within this timeframe will provide Medic employees with the opportunity to test up to two months before your expiration date. Below are the April through July dates for Scope of Practice Testing at Medic: April 17 th, 19 th, 22 nd, 23 rd May 15 th, 17 th, 21 st, 22 nd June 12 th, 14 th, 17 th, 18 th July 17 th, 19 th, 22 nd, 23 rd Please contact Sam Barnes at samb@medic911.com if you have any questions about the new Scope of Practice testing schedule. 6 EMT Continuing Education Requirements Medical Services has been made aware that a higher clinical scope of practice is now being offered to EMTs. This training focuses on skills that were already permitted by the North Carolina Office of EMS for certified Emergency Medical Technicians, but were not part of the local patient care protocols in Mecklenburg County. This higher clinical scope of practice is now being expanded to all Medic and full-time Mint Hill EMT s. Medical Services has been asked to have this training completed before the end of May so that all EMT s are functioning at the same level of care in Mecklenburg County. The didactic segment of this clinical training will be video-based and will be shown in the auditorium at Post 100 on multiple days and times throughout April as well as early May. The didactic segment will not conflict with the diversity class that has already been scheduled for April s InService. The regularly scheduled Inservice in May will include hands-on/practical components that will familiarize you with the new skills and procedures. It is imperative that you complete the video didactic training prior to attending the May InService. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Education and Quality Specialist Brian Shimberg at brians@medic911.com or Clinical Education Manager Melissa Garifo at melissag@medic911.com. Patient Praise You guys were so good to me, you made sure I was taken care of with the utmost care. You guys are so wonderful and I cannot thank you enough for what you do for not only me but others as well. God bless you. I want you ALL to know that you are always on my mind. As I travel throughout the city I think of the great service you provide when I see you driving; there is not enough words to thank ALL of you. Even the medics who have not served us personally, I thank you for the wonderful work you do for others. May God richly bless each one of you and your families. You were wonderful in all respects, you were calming, professional, and explained and answered all my questions. I thank you very much for the excellent care. It is so comforting to know EMS is so close, efficient in time of need. I believe that I am protected by guardian angels, and he appeared this time in the form of [a Medic employee]. "Gratitude" seems an inadequate word to thank him for his quick response. MAD Golf Outing It s that time of year again!
