The Cadet Times is a cadet led newspaper that highlights events and topics that we would like to share with everyone. In this months edition, we are recapping on all the big events that we have been involved in this last month. We hope you enjoy this months edition!
Cary High School Conducts Its Annual Military Inspection Cadet Senior Chief Petty Officer Amanda LaTorre On November 28, 2018, the Cary High School Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps prepared for their 23rd Annual Military Inspection. This inspection evaluated all administration, logistics, and academics for the unit. It included a personnel inspection, review of all administration and programs, a cadet brief, and a Pass In Review Ceremony. During the personnel inspection, each cadet was graded on military bearing, attention to detail and overall uniformity. These cadets worked tirelessly, since the beginning of August, learning basic drill and naval knowledge. After the inspection, the Cadets prepared for the Ceremonial portion of the inspection. This consisted of drill routines, awards, and the Pass in Review which was viewed by parents, students and military service organizations. These organizations included Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7383, The Cary American Legion Post #67, and The Marine Corps League- Tarheel Detachment. The Pass-in-Review was received by Captain Marc Stern and the Cary High School Principal Mr.Bryant and was led by Cadet Lieutenant Zachary Jobe. As a unit, Cary High Cadets worked hard to look professional so that they may represent not only the young men and women of the Cary High School but also of the United States Navy. Cadet Ensign Daniel Free said, We came together as a unit to achieve outstanding results on this years AMI.
Cary High School s NJROTC Unit has received the Distinguished Unit Award for the past 18 years in a row. Bearing the title of a Distinguished Unit means that the unit has been evaluated in the top 30% of the Area. Cary High School is part of Area SIX, which is comprised of units in both North and South Carolina. The Cary High School NJROTC hopes to maintain and uphold this tradition of honor and excellence.
The Cape Fear Drill Meet Cadet Ensign Daniel Free On November 17th, 2018, the Cary High School NJROTC Unit competed in the Cape Fear Sanctioned Drill Meet. Cape Fear is one of the biggest meets of the year, attracting the biggest schools, and the toughest competition. Our Academic Team was led by Cadet Chief Petty Officer Aydan Gibbs and placed first overall in Academics, yet again proving our Academic prowess at a meet in a continued trend of excellence over the past few years. The unarmed regulation routine, commanded by Cadet Chief Petty Officer Miller Harri, placed 2nd with a fantastic performance of skill, bearing, and overall teamwork. Cape Fear was our second meet of the year, and we have showed a strong start in our drill season with excellent performance from these two areas. While our other routines did not place in the top 3 of their areas, they showed significant improvement from our first meet, and are only going to continue to get better through practice. We still have the White Knoll Drill Meet to compete in and the goal is to qualify and compete at Area 6 for yet another year in a row. The drill team will be conducting more practices in the coming weeks to prepare even more for this last meet. We are confident in our team and their ability to excel this year and we wish them the best of luck in these coming weeks.
A.M.I. Logistics Inspection Report Cadet Chief Petty Officer Cody Broughton On Wednesday, November 28, 2018 our unit conducted our annual A.M.I., with our guest of honor Captain Stern inspecting our unit. Cadets Barringer and Broughton as well as, Commander Erickson and Mr. Barefoot accompanied Captain Stern as he inspected the logistics room. He was overall impressed with the logistics teams proficiency in keeping inventory and holding all cadets accountable for items issued. He also, stated that the system of supply put place by the Cary NJROTC unit was outstanding. Cadet Barringer, the Logistics Officer, stated after the event that, It went spectacular, not only was he impressed with our documentation but also the organization and attention to detail that we put in. Overall, the Logistics inspection was a success and the entire unit looks forward to hearing the rest of the results from the inspection.
All About Recruiting Cadet Chief Petty Officer Aidan Schreiner Recruiting trips are a great way to connect with future cadets and get involved with the future of the unit. On recruiting trips we travel to different middle schools in the area and we talk to future high schoolers about what our unit has to offer. The middle schools we usually go to are East Cary, Reedy Creek, and West Cary. Most of our recruiting trips happen during school at lunchtime. We have a series of recruiting trips coming up the third week of December. Our recruiting officer Is Cadet Ensign Timothy Phillips. Feel free to contact me (Cadet Schreiner) or Cadet Phillips if you would like some more information about recruiting and/or about our unit. Our recruiting trips are a lot of fun and one of the best parts about our trips is earning a ribbon! If you participate in at least two trips you can earn the recruiting ribbon. Recruiting trips and Recruiting, in general, are very beneficial to the unit. They help us reach out to future high schoolers that could possibly be interested in joining our unit. One of the main things that draw in our many future cadets is our teams. Our teams help display a cadets aptitude for a certain event or skill that they may be interested in trying and/or learning about. I personally think that recruiting builds a lot of character and confidence in cadets. We look forward to hearing from those of you who are interested in joining the Recruiting Billet and/or joining our unit.
The Importance Of Community Service Cadet Petty Officer First Class Victoria Sanderson One of the important things we implement in our NJROTC Unit is participating in various community service events. I personally go to as many of these events as I can and I m constantly surprised at the lack of attendance at some of these events. The reason I believe participating in the community service events are one of the most important parts of being in our unit is the joy it brings to not only us, but the people we are there to help. For example, the people we serve at the monthly Coffee House event are always overjoyed to be there, getting a chance to socialize, listen to music, and eat good food. Without our unit being there, these events would have half the people to run them, making this amazing event so much more difficult to run. I d like to encourage you, my fellow cadets, to keep track of the community service events that we participate in and come to one or two yourself. We may be young, but we can still make a difference in the life of someone who needs it and add some good to the world too. I hope to see more of you at future events!
Veterans Day Parade Cadet Petty Officer First Class Brianna Tamarez There is never a more heartfelt feeling when you are dedicating and honoring the men and women who have fought and stood up for our freedom. We took the knowledge of drill that we have been taught in school and marched in the Veterans Day Parade in Downtown Raleigh. All day I personally was a bundle of nerves feeling exuberant and anxious because I wanted the Veterans watching the parade to be proud of our generation and excited to see our capability. We were proud of what we took part in on Veterans Day and nothing would or could change that. We all have thanks at the end of the parade to all veterans whether present or absent. I d like to personally thank all Veterans for the time they have served.
The Veterans Day Golden Corral Event Cadet Seamen Jada Futrell On Saturday, November 10th, our NJROTC unit participated in a Veterans Day event hosted by a local Golden Corral restaurant. My fellow cadets and I rotated so we would be able to do several jobs. Some of those jobs consisted of, opening the door for customers, buttering rolls, bussing tables, and making sure there were always clean utensils for the customers. I have personally always admired Veterans for their hard work and dedication. Also, my fellow cadets and I had a phew heart to heart moments throughout the event because of the stories they told. Both my aunt and uncle who retired from the Army showed their support at this event and it personally made my night. Before the event started four of our cadets provided a Color Guard and I would like to commend those cadets for their impeccable bearing. Also, I would like to say thank you to all the cadets that volunteered and to all the veterans!
Words From CO and XO Cadet Lieutenant Zachary Jobe and Cadet Lieutenant Junior Grade Charlie Loyack A.M.I. was outstanding! We would like to thank all the cadets that participated and we hope by your senior year you re recognized for your hard work and time you give this unit. We also, hope you have a wonderful Christmas and do well on your exams next month! ~CO and XO
