2 PURPOSE The Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes living New Mexico State University alumni who have achieved national or international distinction by their accomplishments and leadership. ESTABLISHED: 1956 CANDIDATE ELIGIBILITY CONSIDERATIONS Must be a graduate of NMSU and available to attend homecoming events. This includes attending the Distinguished Alumni Awards Dinner to accept the award. One award will be given for each of the following academic colleges: o College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences o College of Arts & Sciences o College of Business o College of Education o College of Engineering o College of Health and Social Services An individual who has performed specific, meritorious service which reflects the quality and advancement of NMSU. An individual who has achieved distinction in his/her business or professional life. An individual who, in deeds and action, reflects and recognizes the importance of his or her education at NMSU, who demonstrates pride in their alma mater, and whose interest in and loyalty to NMSU are evident. A person of such integrity, stature, and demonstrated ability, that the faculty, staff, students, and alumni will take pride in and be inspired by his or her recognition. A person who has received a Distinguished Alumni Award previously, may not be considered for another Distinguished Alumni Award in the same college. A person who has received a James F. Cole Memorial Award for Service may be considered for a Distinguished Alumni Award. However, a person may not receive both a Distinguished Alumni Award and the James F. Cole Memorial Award for Service in the same year. THOSE INELIGIBLE FOR NOMINATIONS A candidate for any public office. One currently serving as a member of the NMSU Alumni Association International Board of Directors. A member of the NMSU Alumni Association Awards Committee. Any current NMSU or NMSU Foundation employee.

3 PROCEDURE Application Deadline: Nomination forms must be returned to the NMSU Alumni Office prior to April 6,. Nomination forms must be complete and thorough and contain supporting documents. This information will be used as the basis for the evaluation and selection of the Distinguished Alumni Award. Remit Application: Completed application and supporting documents can be ed to: NMSU Alumni Association at or mailed to: NMSU Alumni Association P.O. Box 3590 Las Cruces, NM prior to April 6,. Review Committee: Members of the Alumni Association Awards Committee will review all completed award nominations and make the final selections. Each Distinguished Alumni Award recipient will be honored during NMSU Homecoming. Nominee Review and Consideration: Candidates with previous nomination forms on file will need to provide updated material using this new form.
