Questions: Sir John M. Templeton Fellowships Essay Contest (re economic and personal liberty)(undergrads) Tylenol Scholarship (future doctors, nurses and other health professionals) Institute for Humane Studies: Up to $15,000 to outstanding juniors and seniors planning academic careers with liberty-advancing research interests. Applicants are evaluated based on three primary criteria: academic or professional performance; potential for success in their chosen field; and relevance of their work to the advancement of a free society. See There are many research opportunities for undergraduates through federal funding. Here are a few to consider: National Aeronautics and space Administration (NASA) Undergraduate Student Research Program (USRP) National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REUs) NSF funds a large number of research opportunities for undergraduate students through its REU Sites program. An REU Site consists of a group of ten or so undergraduates who work in the research programs of the host institution. Each student is associated with a specific research project, where he/she works closely with the faculty and other researchers. Students are granted stipends and, in many cases, assistance with housing and travel. Undergraduate students supported with NSF funds must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or its possessions. An REU Site may be at either a US or foreign location. Example of one area within the REUs: Under the Social Sciences/Economics/Behavioral Sciences, there are over 40 summer internships offered.

6 National Institutes of Health (NIH) Undergraduate Scholarships (in biomedical, behavioral, and social sciences) for students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are committed to health-related research careers. Offers up to $20,000 in tuition and living expenses, plus paid, ten-week research training at NIH in the summer and paid employment at the NIH after graduation. Department of Defense SMART Scholarships. The Science, Mathematics And Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service Program has been established by the Department of Defense (DoD) to support undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines. Students pursuing degrees related to the following are encouraged to apply. In order to increase the number of U.S. citizens and nationals trained in science and engineering disciplines of military importance, the Department of Defense (DoD)awarded approximately 200 new three-year graduate fellowships in April The DoD fellowships focus on individuals who have demonstrated the ability and special aptitude for advanced training in science and engineering. National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowships are awarded to applicants who will pursue a doctoral degree in, or closely related to, an area of DoD interest within one of the fifteen following disciplines:! Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering! Biosciences! Chemical Engineering! Chemistry! Civil Engineering! Cognitive, Neural, and Behavioral Sciences! Computer and Computational Sciences! Electrical Engineering! Geosciences! Materials Science and Engineering! Mathematics! Mechanical Engineering! Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering! Oceanography! Physics *************************** Rotary International World Peace Fellows. This extraordinary program is still very new and the due dates may vary from one region to another.
